The documentation linked to the production will be full and detailed and there will be
evidence that the production management and scheduling of the project has been effective
and carried out in a professional manner. The techniques used in the production of the work
are likely to be related to an understanding of current trends in the industry.
Planning
Brainstorm / mind map (add extra pages if necessary)
Music Video All the motion will be very basic and relative to the
simple lexus and linguistics of the song (The Weeknd High for This)
Lyrics :- Open your hand
Take a glass - These simple interrogatives will make the
visuals easy to match with the narrative of song.
The narrative will be about a woman (ages 18-youth associated with
drugs); shell be a drug user who is out of control.
The main shot it will keep flashing back to will be her driving her car
which she will crash at the end. But there will be many juxtaposing
Discuss any legal issues you may face. Eg; sound, plagiarism, age restrictions
I am using The Weeknd song High for This I will reference the cover so I am not
claiming the song is mine, I am only making a music video for the audio. In my
notes I will explain I am using fake drugs and that no illegal issues will be involved.
))))))))))
What are the different possibilities you could explore using this format?
My first idea was to have the images for the stop motion printed out on a printer then take
pictures of the of the images as they come out. But now I believe that would not match the
tense mood of the song, so I will try and get the photograph to move a long on a dark
background maybe this will help show this is her inner thoughts or flashbacks. Also by
having the images move leaving the pervious sin the trail is an effective and lever technique
to display stop motion.
Through simply mise-en-scene alone I am trying to tell the audience that the stop motion
segment is her dark thoughts and memories so maybe by panning into her head and the
start and end of each time I parallel edit back to reality.
What are the limitations of using this format? (i.e what problems/ obstacles might you
have?)
Now I have to make a 3 music video, 2 minutes of video and a whole minute of stop motion,
means that I have a real high work rate to maintain this unit to work to my deadline of
January the 13th.
Not only have I made my video a lot longer but the format of time lapse photography is a lot
more time enduring method meaning I have to take however many frames per second for
the stop motion then after that print them all off then take pictures of the pictures and edit
with them, alongside my recorded video. So keeping up with time will be a problem for me
this unit.
What imaginative or inventive animations have you seen which use this format?
Add in links and screen shots of three examples of animations using this format.
This is a creative stationary method of presenting stop motion, the use of this wide shot on
the printer lets ypu clearly show the change on the pages. Its cool for a simple idea but
wouldnt match the feel of mood for my tense narrative of music video.
https://youtu.be/m9Et7UQh1tg - Moving photograph method
The pen story was very good at filling there shot with multiple photographs to show you
around the center mage, of the two images I showed, you can see how theyve shown the
trail clearly and how effective it looks.
The movement of physical photos was integrated with the content inside the image, which
was very inventive, they used a sink filled with water, and has used a transparent cup to
move the swimming wolf actor through the sink (pool)
Subject
What will the subject of your animation be?
Storyline
Describe the storyline of your animation. What events will happen to your characters?
Ruby is holding a photograph of the trapped Ruby inside her head. Then the video will
continue. Ruby driving her car will work as the primary video for the parallel editing for the
music video. The photographs will be used as a format as a way to show her flashbacks,
and her trapped emotions. The music video will cut back to the images of photographs then
to video multiple times, it will be quite confusing. But hopefully will make sense to the viewer.
Ruby in a teenager with a daily recreational drug addiction which is
taking over life. She likes to drive to try and get her mind off her
issues. To calm her down, but as the drive carries on the drugs in
Rubys system start to kick in a whole lot stronger, meanwhile this
happening, the shots keep cutting to her taking the drugs, flashbacks
and trapped feelings (shown through the stop motion photographs).
(I think this image really links and relates to my character Ruby, I
also will hope to try and find a similar location as in that image as its
very small and shows entrapment.)
Eventually as the song hits climax the drugs become to much as her emotions and mental
state becomes too much and she loses control mentally, she also loses control over the car,
therefore crashing the car.
Characters
What characters will be in your animation?
Ruby will be the only character.
She is a 19-year-old girl whos mixed in with the wrong crowd during college, which got her
doing recreational drugs, which has developed into an addiction which cant stop. She has a
voice inside her head which tells her to take the drugs. Shes battling a war inside her head,
almost like shes bipolar.
From a young age shes rebelled with her rich, strict parents. Resulting in her bad path to
drug addiction.

Hobbies:
Ruby has an addiction with recreational drug use. This came from
mixing in with the wrong crown
socializing in secondary school. A lot
of her time is spent with her mates
where she is socializing going out to
parties and chilling out with friends.
She is also very into her makeup and
fashion, which she spends a lot of
her money on getting the designer
clothes and expensive make up.
Character
Background:
She was clever from a young age, but was never really interested in
education or having a career despite her potential. Her bad
relationship with her parents makes her to rebel and is the outcast
of the family.
She spends a lot of time with her friends, Ruby is easily peer
pressured. She surrounds herself with very intimidating characters
which characteristics fall off on her.
Her hard drug addiction has got worse, which started off as a party
occasion has developed into a daily issue. She feels like she relies
on the drug, and that she is not herself unless she is high (links to
song title high for this). She hears voices in her head which tells
her to-do these drugs.
Add in images and drawings/ sketches of what they will look like.
Movement of characters
An armature provides the internal foundation on which to build your sculpture. Much like
our own human skeletal system is the framework which keeps us standing in an upright
position, an armature is used to keep the artist's clay from collapsing, while also protecting
the integrity of any outward extensions, such as thin limbs or legs. Truly, the most
disheartening experience a clay sculptor can have is to create the ideal form, only to have
his project fail due to the lack of a sturdy frame.
Although it can be made from a variety of materials, such as wood or steel, the (almaloy)
aluminum wire armature is the superior choice due to the following features:
non-corrosive
lightweight
fully pliable
non-staining
Mood board-Pintrest
Create a mood board showing what look your animation will have. Add images showing
ideas of mise-en-scene, characters, costumes and colours that will be present in the
different shots.
Sets / backgrounds
Will your set be;
A blue/green screen
An existing location
Draw sketches of how your sets/backgrounds will look. Add in labels to your diagrams and
details of locations / lighting etc.
There will be multiple locations throughout the 3 minute music video. But the main 2
locations will be inside Rubys Vauxhall Corsa and the other will be in a enclosed room and
space to resemble somewhere where her trapped thoughts could be.
So for my settings I will be searching for ideal existing locations, opposed to making them
unless I have too.
1. Vauxhall Corsa inside of car
2. Make Desk / Bedroom
3. Small room, to symbolize inside Rubys head (trapped feelings)
This is the make-up desk that Ruby will get ready in, this
will also be used for her bedroom, where she takes her
drugs.
Complete the sound list, detailing what sounds you will use, where you will source them,
what equipment you will need to record them and when you will use them in your animation.
You will need to design your own soundtrack. You cannot use copyrighted music, and it
must be more than simply adding a track.
Think of the scenes in your animation. Each scene should have different sounds/music to
give information about the mood / emotions of the characters.

Notes
Audience
Define the following characteristics of your audience;
Gender
Definitely mixed gender
Age
My demographics age is aimed for 18-30. My music video is strictly 18+ anyway due to the
drug use which is associated with the age group. The reason Im aiming for a young
audience is mainly due to the content of video, The Weeknds audience started off when he
had a lower fan base as typically teenagers and young 20s due to his content of music
which contains lots of lyrics about sex and drug use. With The Weeknds new international
demographic due to his mass success, with his big singles such as The Hills, Earned Itwhich was used as the sound track from 50 Shades of Grey and many more, this means
that his huge audience is now obviously more spread. But it was his content and talent that
was the reason for his young audience. The Weeknd has become massive now despite his
controversial content, he is receiving multiple awards and topping charts for singles, albums
and for an artist.

Interests
The interests is very specifically DRUGS! Which is a group associated with teenagers which
are the highest users of drugs.
How will you ensure that your animation will suit your chosen audience?
My stop motion photography is an under used method, which will make it fun to watch and
not boring. Also the content should be very relevant and intriguing to watch to my youthful
viewer. There is driving make up and rugs involved in my music video.

Frame Rates
What is the duration of your animation in minutes? (minimum 30 seconds)
1
In seconds?
60
There are 60 seconds in a minute. How many frames (ie. Individual photos) will you
need to take?
600 frames
Lighting Design
Where will you place your light source(s) to create interesting effects?
I can use head lamps or torches for directional light.
Frame numbers
You will need to label your images as frames
The first 24 frames will be written as;
0_1
0_2 etc etc
In the downsized images folder is the photos that have already gone through Photoshop to
downsize the quality, to make processing quicker.
I have imported the images into Premier at 8fps. I also have separate stop motion files,
which were at faster and slower fpss.
Dope sheets
A dope sheet is an animation tool which helps a animator organise the animation shot-byshot.
This gives the camera operator instructions on each shot type and how many frames this will
be used for.
A dope sheet is usually split into 5 different sections.
For example;
Because you will be working with video, you will be using 30fps. You will need to complete a
dope sheet for EVERY SECOND of your animation.
i.e, if you make a 30 second animation, you will need to complete 30 dope sheets.
This will be a time-consuming task, but it will help you understand what will need to
happen in each of the shots you take. The higher marks will come from a detailed and
careful collection of dope sheets. For example, if your characters speaks, you will need to
show the mouth forming every shape in order to look effective.
Copy and paste as many dope sheets as you need. Remember to change the frame
numbering so that the first number refers to the second of animation ie, 1_24 is the 24th
frame of the first second, 3_17 is the 17th frame of the 3rd second.

Liaising with client (write notes on discussions between you and your client)
In my brief with my client, they originally asked for a minimum of 30 seconds of stop
motion, as agreed I wanted to exceed this by doing 1 minute or more of stop motion,
which I have successfully completed.
I agreed with my client that I wanted to merge stop motion animation with video for my
music video. The video and stop motion is be made up to match the 3:41 length of song.
