Description

Air handling units ALFA are compact standardised units suitable for installation into HVAC
systems. They are mostly used for ventilation of smaller warehouses, administration
buildings, supermarkets, sports objects, swiming pools, etc.
The casing construction and the insulation with high density guarantee a silent operation of
the unit. The units is equipped with very powerful fan, water or electric exchanger, G4 filter
and complete electronic regulation incl. remote controller.
ALFA unit is designed for operation in inner standard environment in ambient temperature
from 0C to +40C and for handling of clean air free of greases, chemical vapours and other
impurities. Relative humidity of the air is to be up to 80%. Electric protection of the unit is IP44.

Electric heater

The heating capacity according to the unit type is from 3,3kW to 25kW. The electric heater
has always balanced wiring of heating elements (according to EU norms).

Regulation

ALFA unit can be controlled with any of the following regulation types:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

MASTER regulation
MASTER - SLAVE regulation (for inlet and outlet unit)
MASTER regulation with mixing flap and air quality sensor
MASTER regulation with external cooler
SLAVE regulation

MASTER r e g u l a t i o n

This type is used for regulation of air volume and heating capacity of supply and heating air
unit. It is highly sophisticated, complex, easy to operate. It offers you the optimal utilise of
ALFA ventilation unit.
MASTER regulation consists of control unit, MASTER controller and of interconnection
cable. With the controller you can switch the unit ON and OFF, set the fan speed in steps 1 5 and set the required temperature of air within the range +12 to +45C.
Actual air temperature read by the temperature sensor is displayed on the controller's
display, in case both temperature sensors are installed it is that read by room sensor.

Termostatick ventil

asov spna

The controller is fitted with filter clogging control lamp, which works in case the unit is
equipped with DM difference pressure gauge. Closing valve can be connected to the
MASTER regulation, which opens at switching the unit ON and closes at switching OFF.
Two-position remote actuator 230V AC must be used for actuating of the closing valve.
At least one of the external temperature sensors, which we deliver as accessories, must be
used for temperature regulation. It depends, if you will want to regulate the temperature in the
HVAC channel, or in the room. If the channel temperature sensor will be used, thus the
temperature set and followed on the controller is that of the air leaving the unit to the HVAC
channel. The room sensor, on the other hand, reads the room temperature - on the place of
its installation.
It is also possible to connect both temperature sensors at the same time. The channel
sensor then maintains the temperature in the channel between the pre-set minimum and
maximum +10 to +50C and in case of getting out of this range it is superior to the room one.
The entire regulation then works e.g. as follows: There is set a temperature 20C on the
controller, the room temperature is 21C and the outdoor one is 5C. The unit receives a
command to stop heating and outdoor air of temperature 5C starts to flow into the room. Due
to use of the channel sensor the unit will start to heat since the temperature in the channel is
below 10C.
Thermostatic valve or mixing point is delivered as accessories to the unit with water
heating; it is connected directly into the control unit and it is regulated according to the heating
requirements. Water heater can be fitted with anti-freeze protection, which is connected
during manufacture of the unit and works as follows: If the temperature at outlet from the heat
exchanger reaches the freeze danger level, the anti-freeze protection will shut the unit off,
closes the inlet flap valve and fully opens the mixing point. Three-positions remote actuator
230 V AC must be used for control of the mixing point.
Time switch is another regulation item. This switch is to be connected to the control unit and
it is used for setting the time period for so called night regime (falloff), when the unit heats to
temperature for 5C lower than the pre-set required temperature.
For instance, if there is a temperature of 25C set on the controller, the unit heats during the
daytime to this temperature. During the period set as the night regime (e.g. 11PM to 05 AM)
the control unit controls to the temperature for 5C lower, i.e. to 20C. After the nigh mode
period is over, the temperature is regulated again to 25C, set on the controller.
The program of the night regime can be also changed for the unit switch OFF at the nighttime.

MASTER r e g u l a t i o n w i t h SLAVE e x t r a c t i o n u n i t

The regulation of supply unit MASTER with extraction unit SLAVE is to be used for
mechanical (underpressure or overpressure) ventilation. It such a case the inlet unit will
be fitted with MASTER regulation with controller and the outlet unit with SLAVE regulation.
The SLAVE control unit is interconnected by a cable with the MASTER control unit and it is
also controlled by that. Both units - inlet and outlet ones - work synchronously, run at the
same speed set on the MASTER controller.
The required heating temperature for MASTER unit is also set by the controller, other
functions of the regulation (closing valve, anti-freeze protection, filter clogging signal, )
work in the same way as in case just the MASTER unit only has been installed.
10

MASTER r e g u l a t i o n w i t h m i x i n g f l a p a n d a i r q u a l i t y
sensor

ALFA unit equipped with MASTER regulation can be used together with mixing flap for
mixing of inner and outer air to achieve savings of costs for reaching the required
temperature and in the same time for quicker reaching of required temperature.
In such case it is necessary to connect to the control unit also an air quality sensor (it can be
ordered as an accessories), room temperature sensor to read the room temperature and the
channel sensor, which will be installed before the mixing flap and which reads the
temperature of the outer air. Three-position remote actuator 230 V AC must be used for
control of the mixing flap.

An example of flap function:

Air temperature in the room is 15C and it is lower than the required one set on the controller (20C).
Outdoor temperature is 3C. In such a case is the mixing flap opened for entry of inner air and closed for
outdoor air. The unit uses the indoor heated air for heating up the room and will reach the pre-set
temperature more quickly and with lower costs.
In case the air quality sensor installed in the room will give a signal to the control unit that the air in the
room is polluted (low quality), the mixing flap closes the inlet of inner air and opens the inlet of outer one.
Thus the entry of fresh and quality air to the room is always ensured.
11

MASTER r e g u l a t i o n w i t h e x t e r n a l c o o l e r i n s t a l l e d

MASTER control unit can be used also for regulation of external cooler output. The output of
the cooler is controllable in two ways:
- mixing point of the cooler and three-positions remote actuator powered by 230 V AC is
connected to the control unit, or
- control unit switches ON and OFF the compressor of the cooler.
It is necessary to install at least one temperature sensor (channel or room) for the cooler
output control purposes. In case the required temperature set on the controller is higher than
that in the room, the control unit will send a signal to the cooler to start cooling.

SLAVE r e g u l a t i o n

SLAVE regulation can be used to control air volume of independent extraction unit or
supply unit without heating (box-fan). Unit is equipped with SLAVE control unit with SLAVE
controller and with interconnection cable. By using the controller the unit is switched ON and
OFF and the speed of the fan is set from 1 to 5.
Closing valve can be connected to the control system, which opens at switching the unit ON
and closes at switching OFF. Two-position remote actuator 230V AC must be used for
actuating of the closing valve. The controller is equipped with filter clogging control lamp. It
works in case the unit is equipped with DM difference pressure gauge, which is connected
into the SLAVE control unit.
Pre-set speed of the fan is displayed on the controller's display.
