embody comfort and convenience. Think
of it as moving from design meant merely
for display to features that improve your
day-to-day life.
Designer Dan Sater understands this well. His latest oor plans make open, multi-use spaces the
priority, with everything from ofces to bathrooms pulling double duty (check out the smart pool bath
on page 6). Outdoor living becomes part of your everyday experience, with porches and lanais
integrated beautifully into the footprint of the home.
Of course, dazzling baths and kitchens will always gure prominently in any discussion of upscale

For designer Dan Sater II FAIBD, smaller square footage

Fans of Dan Saters work over the years might know him by his splendid Mediterranean estates, which
overow with opulent amenities and Instagram-worthy leisure spaces. But lately the Florida-based
designer has turned his attention to creating simpliedyet still luxuriousplans that reect how he
sees people living today. Its a bet thats been paying off handsomely, as his smaller plans (including
the oor plan for his personal homesee it on page 8!) have become his bestselling designs.

As president and CEO of The Sater Companies, Dan is a Certied


Professional Building Designer, Certied Green Professional,
Professional Member of the Institute of Classical Architecture, and
past president of the American Institute of Building Design. He also
belongs to AIBDs College of Fellows, the Institutes highest honor.
He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences on
building and design. Dan has authored eleven books including The

nationally recognized model building code in effect at the time and
place the plan was drawn. However, plans may need to be modied
to comply with local requirements. In addition, you may need to obtain
permits or inspections from local governments before and in the course
of construction.

Architectural and Engineering Seals


Some cities and states require that a licensed architect or engineer
review and seal a blueprint prior to construction. Before applying for
a building permit or starting construction, you must consult your local
building ofcial who can tell you if such a review is required.

Nevada residents
Nevada law requires your plans to be redrawn by a Nevada registered
professional. Consult your local building ofcial for more information.
