IC56D - Saline Water Reverse Osmosis Desalination

1. General
Equipment for water desalination by reverse osmosis with a capacity of 60 l/h.
Osmosis is a natural phenomenon that takes place when two solutions with different concentrations, such as pure water and
saline water are separated by a semi-permeable diaphragm.
Direct or natural osmosis is obtained by the passage of the more diluted water solution towards the more concentrated one;
it stops rising when the pressure generated by the column of liquid cancels the water flow.
At this point we have reached the equilibrium value and we have obtained a pressure called "saline solution osmotic
pressure".
Many living creatures, both animal and vegetable use this phenomenon for their survival.
Reverse Osmosis Osmosis can be reversed and we can submit the more concentrated solution (such as saline water) to a
pressure that is higher than the osmotic pressure and in this case obtain a reverse flow where the diaphragm will block all
the dissolved mineral salts, bacteria, micro-organisms and all suspended solids. This is called "reverse osmosis".
In this way we shall obtain water with a good chemical and bacteriorlogic purity at a low cost and without using chemical
reactives such as hydrochloric acid and caustic soda used in ion exchange resin regeneration.
2. Description
The IC56D plant is composed of:
1. Permatreat 191 metering control unit containing:

acid resistant metering pump

1/2" pulse sender counter to meter the feed of the untreated water
2. Reverse osmosis unit containing:

pressure reducer

plant cut-off solenoid valve

12 microfilter - delivery up to 10 lt/min

high head centrifugal pump with the following characteristics:

delivery 200 lt/h

3. Technical characteristics
It is best that the complete water desalination and reverse osmosis process also includes the finishing process using our
demineralizing unit, model IC46D/500, at the osmozed water outlet of IC56D.
