Relocating Wash-injection Point

In brief, 2 wash-water injection rates were studied: 3.8 KL/HR and 5.5 KL/HR
respectively, for sensitivity check
Reason: 3.8 KL/HR Existing injection rate ; 5.5 KL/HR Injection rate
required to maintain 25 wt% as aqueous phase at 204-C inlet

Key results:
- Relocating wash-water to inlet of 204-C is able to save some energy
(lost to seawater and air) by ~ 4.3 5.6 MMBTU/HR
- The main driver for increased energy recovery is due to 25% improved
in LMTD @ 203-C exchangers
- This additional recovered energy is manifested as higher inlet T to 251C inlet ( fractionator bottom- feed exchanger prior to 251-B)
- The energy savings is evaluated to be ~ USD 500k 655k per year.
- Not expecting any NH4SH sublimation to occur anywhere before 204-C
as sublimation temperature estimated to be < 40oC
Key Basis:
- Throughput @ 20 MBSD; Treat Gas ratio @ 980 SCF/BBL
- UA for 203-C, 204-C, 205-C were input per datasheet @ 1.7 / 4.6 / 2.4
x 105 BTU/F-hr respectively, inlet air temperature to 204-C is 33oC
- Strictly speaking, UA will change depending on the flow regime,
however for this study UA is assumed constant
- Simulation run indicated confluence of data points with datasheet, this
added confidence:
202-C reactor effluent outlet T~ 250oC (datasheet ~ 249oC)
HPS T was ~ 36oC (datasheet ~ 40.5oC)
251-C inlet T ~ 146oC (datasheet ~ 135oC)
- Wash-water injection rate required for 25wt% remaining as aqueous
phase at 204-C inlet ~ 5.5 KL/HR

Wash-water injection rate currently at 3.8 KL/HR results in slightly less

than 25 wt% remaining as aqueous phase at 204-C inlet
NH4SH sublimation temperature at HDS-1 conditions evaluated with
PETOOLS and is at < 40oC
Energy cost per AOS definition @ 13.4 USD/MMBTU
