B - Marking in compliance with the

IEC 61537 standard
Low Voltage Directive - Law N95-1081 (art. 8)
The CE marking is the symbol defined on annex of this law; it is marked on
the electrical material or packaging, notice, or guarantee...
CEI 61537 (Extrait 7.1)
Each system component shall be durably and legibly marked with
- the manufacturers or responsible vendors name or trade mark or
identification mark
- a product identification mark which may be, for example, a catalogue
number, a symbol or equivalent.
When system components except cable trays land cable ladder are
packaged, the product identification mark may be, as an alternative,
marked on the package. Compliance is checked by inspection .
For the product marking, compliance is also checked by rubbing by
hand during 15s with a piece of damp cotton cloth and again during 15s with
a piece of cotton cloth soaked with petroleum spirit.
As an evidence of their compliance to standards, TOLMEGA
cable trays and cable ladders are
marked. For a better
identification, the product code, size and finish is written in
addition of the
marking if applicable.

E - Load testing
1) Cable tray to IEC 61537 standard
All TOLMEGA products are tested according to type 2
- Cable trays fixed onto supports
- Uniformly distributed load
- Deflection is measured at 3 points along the line midway between the
supports and at right angles to the center of the tray. The 3 points
measurements shall be under each edges or side beam and under the center.
Load test
-span pitch: 500 mm
-Safe working load (SWL)
is determined according
to type 2 test
instructions.

Results are selected according to :

- the L/100 maximum deflection.
- the 1.7 safety factor on the resistance while breaking.
Usually deflection is < L/300 for cable trays and L/200 for wire mesh
cable trays.
Transversal deflection < L/20 for both cable trays and wire cable
trays.
For width > 200 mm, we recommend to fit a junction on the bottom
of the cable trays.

There must not have

any junction on the end span

This is the usual application. There is never end span

junction on site. This is the TOLMEGA selected test.

Span must be equivalent or multiple to

the standard length product and the
junction location is specified.

This is an unusual on-site configuration, except for T-SCOPIC

4 m length cable trays in a 2 m span configuration: we recommend
a L/5 junction: 400 mm to support for an easier installation.
For conventional 3 m length cable trays, the manufacturer requires
the installer to assemble the junctions on a 1,5 or 3 m span. This is
not convenient on site at all, but the results are profitable.

NOTICE . Basket trays : If data cables are not correctly fixed, the result can
be a deformation on every transversal wire mesh, 100 mm to 100 mm.
Of course, this distortion is bad for the signal quality.
We recommend to unroll cables instead of pulling it, do no twist and do
not overload.

In some countries, metallic cable trays cannot be used as earthing or

equipotential conductor.
However, it is recommended to earth the cabletray to the ground of
the installation.

recommended
:

There is no standard test report method about cable trays.

Reducing radiation effect depends on reference, but EMC references
are not stable (according to connections, installation conditions,
environment conditions,)
So, results are not repetitive. They depend on test methods
and conditions.
It could be dangerous to extrapolate on site the reduction
of radiation measured in insulated room.
b) Characterisation by transfer impedance is the way used by
laboratories and cable manufacturers :
impedance is a intrinsic parameter of the cable trays, apart from
conditions of use.
Measurement method is well known, repetitive and suitable.
TOLMEGA uses this characterisation method.
The lowest transfer impedance level is the highest reducing
effect of cable trays.

B - Description
ZINC ON STEEL COATING

PG : CONTINUOUS HOT-DIP GALVANISED WIRE

(EN 10244-2)
The wire is continuous hot dip galvanized (220 g of zinc/m2).
Then a wire drawing is processed in addition. For UNIFIL products,
this is a very economic and high corrosion resistance proceeding.

G : HOT-DIP MILL GALVANIZED STEEL SHEET

(EN 10327/ ASTM A653 / BS 2989)

The galvanized steel sheet is obtained by immersing a previously-treated steel
sheet in a bath of molten zinc at 450-460C. The current grade of Z 275 NA is
of a thickness of 18-20 per face, or 275 g/m2 per double face, normal zinc
GEOMET passivated small strips shaped zinc :
formation N, finishing grade A. Contrary to wide-spread belief, no corrosion is
Geomet components are made up of either passivated small strips shaped zinc
possible in sections of the metal when a galvanized metal sheet of current
and aluminium into a mineral binder, or passivated small strips shaped zinc and
thickness is sheared or stamped. Iron is protected through the battery
nickel. This structural passivation allows a better corrosion resistance than
phenomenon consisting of the Iron-ZINC ELECTROLYTIC system.
hot-dip galvanization (saline spray test ISO 9227: 1000 hours).

HDG : HOT-DIP GALVANIZED AFTER FABRICATION

(EN ISO 1461/ ASTM A123M / BS 729)
After a surface treatment, the steel is immersed in a bath of molten zinc. This
gives a zinc thickness ranging from 49 to 70 depending on the thickness of
the metal sheet.

ZINC + : COATING ON EZ
This special zinc protection process allows a better corrosion
resistance than hot-dip galvanization (saline spray test ISO 9227: 1500 hours).
Appearance : silk finish. No droplets after drying.

EZ : ELECTRO-ZINC GALVANISING
(EN 12 329- EN 12 330 - NFA 91472/ ASTM B 633)
Electrolytically, a zinc coating is deposited on the steel. The baths used
consist of acid alkali solutions of zinc salts. The anodes are in zinc (generally to
99.99 % of purity) and the parts to coat, previously degreased and cleaned, are
connected to the cathode.
After galvanizing, the parts are chromed to increase the protection.

WHITE RUST
Under what conditions do white rust appears ?
A fast oxidization is needed , either under a heterogeneous film of water,
or under permanent condensation (for example by differential aeration).
This fast oxidization can be local or general. It is the precipitation of
basic salts of zinc Zn (OH) 2. These basics salts are powdery, not very
adherent and provide no protection. However, they quickly combine with
components of the surrounding air to form a protective layer of basic zinc
carbonate. The basic salts formed are not very soluble in water and they
accumulate in the surface patina until reaching a state of balance between
their elimination in the form of soluble salts and their generation by
oxidisation of the metal.
White rust has no effect on zinc coating lifetime.

OTHERS COATINGS

OTHERS MATERIALS

EPOXY OR POLYESTER COLOURED COATINGS

304 L : STAINLESS STEEL X2CrMi 18-10

These coatings are generally applied on continuous galvanised steel sheet (SZ)
- For greater protection, it is recommended to select a hot-dip galvanised
(HDG) finish.
- For aesthetic requirements and inside buildings, an epoxy coating can be
applied on mild steel XC or SZ finish.
- Outside applications : Polyester
- Inside applications : Epoxy
Benefits :
- Save maintenance time by coloured location of the networks.
- Provides a high corrosion protection, especially in severe environments.
This two-way zinc+ coloured coating protection is the only process where
the added corrosion protection properties provides more than the double
of corrosion protection given separately.
Characteristics :
The coating is applied by electrostatic gun-spray then stove hardened.
The heat-hardening powders offer good resistance to abrasion and shock,
excellent lifetime value and requires no maintenance.
Colours :
Specify the RAL reference.

(EN 10088-2 / AISI 304L)

Good resistance to corrosion in natural and food atmospheres.

316 L : STAINLESS STEEL X2CrMiMo 17-12-2

(EN 10088-2 / AISI 304L)
Especially intended for the chemical and food environments, and surface
treatment. Except by written agreement, all products
supplied Tolmega for stainless steel equipment always mean:
- Not trimmed- Not degreased- Not cleaned, decontaminated or passivated .
We can perform complementary treatment of
decontamination / passivation on request.

AG3 : ALUMINIUM ALLOY 5754

(EN 573- NF EN 485 / ASTM B275 - ASTM B209)
As for the stainless steels, AG3 is protected from exterior
corrosion by a passive layer of alumina, which is naturally formed in the air.
Its resistance to corrosion is very good in neutral environments (4<pH<10)
and also marine atmospheres. On the other hand, it is very sensitive to
electrolytic corrosion. The complementary
treatment of anodisation reinforces the thickness of the passive layer of
aluminia. This treatment can be applied on request.(4<pH<10) and also
marine atmospheres. On the other hand, it is very sensitive to electrolytic
corrosion. The complementary treatment of anodisation reinforces the
thickness of the passive layer of aluminia. This treatment can be applied on
request.

B - Electrolytic corrosion
Electrolytic corrosion is defined as a process of accelerated corrosion
resulting of an electric current between two metals coupled in an electrolytic
environment .
Below the red line, the metal is being attacked.
The joined metal undergoes no galvanic corrosion but, on the contrary, enjoys
an effect of galvanic protection. Electrolytic corrosion is very important when
choosing the assembly bolts and certain accessories different from the
cableway support. (See table)

* Sometimes EZ or SS bolting is used. If EZ bolting, bolts and nuts

will be corroded in some years.
If SS bolting, cable trays will be corroded. Bolts and nuts can be
removed in this case. This effect will be increased in outdoor
applications.
