Task: To complete an annotated map, and a mini-research project related to global migration in the 19 th
century.
I. On the map of the world, create a color-coded key for each of the migrating groups listed and plot these
peoples migrations. A wide arrow could represent a large migration while a small arrow could represent a
small one: Africans, Chinese, Indian, European, Italians, Japanese, Americans/Canadians

II. Research a specific migration and create a fact sheet that displays the questions below in a format that
allows for a quick overview and scan (like a chart, graph, or timeline, etc.) You will need to write sentences
to fully answer some of these questions, but keep them succinct. They should be an overview of the
migration.

Each person must sign up for one specific region with me first!
Look at the CIA Factbook for an example: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-worldfactbook/geos/af.html
Answer the following on your fact sheet:

When did this migration occur and who was involved? Describe basic demographic data of the
migrantsages, religions, occupations, etc.--and major destination cities.
What push-pull factors influenced the migration?
Was your migration seasonal, temporary, or permanent? What factors caused this?
What were the consequences of this migration on the political, economic, religious, social and
artistic characteristics of both the home country and the destination? (you wont necessarily find
answers to all of the above characteristics)
What reactions did both the migrants and the existing population of the destination country have
toward your migration? Support with evidence of laws, settlement patterns, events, political
movements, etc.
Please include a bibliography of the sources you consulted in correct MLA format on the
back/bottom.

You will be assessed on Accuracy of map annotations, and following directions for part I.15 pts.
You will be assessed on the following for Part II:
Bibliography5 pts.
Quality of Answers to questions50 pts.
Evidence used to Support conclusions30 pts.
