In the Bible the number 8 is identified with resurrection, regeneration and new

beginnings. An 8 laid sideways is the symbol for infinity. In Hebrew the number eight is
Sh'moneh, from the root Shah'meyn, meaning "to make fat," "cover with fat," "to super-
abound." As a participle it means "one who abounds in strength," etc. As a noun it is
"superabundant fertility," "oil," etc. So that as a numeral it is the superabundant number.
Gematria comes from the Greek word "geōmetriā" from which our English word
"geometry" is derived. Peoples of ancient languages used the letters of their alphabets as
numbers also. Gematria is a system for calculating the numerical values of words, and
phrases of these duel purpose alphabets to find identical numerical values that bear some
relation to each other, or bear some relation to the number itself. The Biblical languages
of Hebrew and Koine Greek as well as practically all other ancient languages used the
letters of their alphabets as numbers. By copying this ancient practice, and using the
numbering system of the most ancient language, Sumerian, which was based on
increments of six, as a model, and applying it to our alphabet we come up with an
English Gematria System ( A = 6, B = 12, C = 18, D = 24, E = 30, etc). The English
Gematria System is based on the ancient Sumerian civilization's method of calculating. It
is believed that the Sumerian civilization is the most ancient and that their system of
counting was the very first. The Sumerian system can still be seen in our use of the foot
(12 inches = 2 x 6) and yard (36 inches = 6 x 6), in our 24 hour clock (24 = 4 x 6), and
our sexagesimal measurement of time (60 seconds, 60 minuets).
All real Christians reject all forms of esotericism and occultism. The English Gematria is
neither mystical nor occultic; but is rather revealed and open. God's own Word says,
"Here is wisdom: Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is
the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." (Revelation
13:18) Please read carefully that this text does not say to try to find out who the
Antichrist Beast is, but only to "count the number of the beast." The Gematria is meant to
be the confirmation of established facts and nothing more.
Therefore, the proper use of the two calculators below is to find Scriptural correlation
between the words and phrases, and their numerical values. When using these calculators
you should ask yourself, "What is the Scriptural significance of my words?" For example,
in the Koine Greek of the New Testament the number of the Lord's name, Jesus, totals
888; while the is Antichrist's number is 666. If there is no Scriptural significance then the
calculation is of no significance. In the Bible 6 is the number of man, and 8 is the number
of new beginnings. Again, after taking all these factors into account English Gematria
becomes a strong evidence that backs up established Biblical doctrine, and helps us gain
insight into Bible interpretations by looking for words and phrases with the same values.

Despite our human lack of full comprehension of the Gematria, we do know that there is
a phenomenon behind it. One thing is certain, and that is that we have, in the Scriptures
of Truth, a revelation from God absolutely without error, and whatever difficulties we
may encounter in seeking to understand it, they are all the outcome of our own
infirmities. Of another thing we are also certain, that the Written Word cannot be
separated from the Living Word, nor the spiritual meaning of the one understood without
