MISAMIS ORIENTAL- Authorities are expecting rains during the Black Nazarene
procession in Cagayan De Oro on Monday, following the expected landfall of
Typhoon Auring.

Auring is expected to make landfall over Surigao del Sur between Sunday night and
Monday morning.

Tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1 has been raised over 19 areas including
Misamis Oriental.

The city will be secured by over 800 policemen and soldiers which will be distributed
throughout the procession route.

Even though rains are expected, devotees are still prohibited from using umbrellas
and wearing hats. Drone cameras are also not allowed.

Security measures are expected to be tight since the city is close to terrorist lairs
such as that of the Maute group.

The Black Nazarene celebration is a heightened city population activity and if I

were a terrorist target-in ko 'yan just to send my message. Kaya ganyan ang
preparation natin ngayon sa police because the police are trying to prevent and
mitigate the situation, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office
(CDRRMO) overseer Mario Verner Monsanto said.

The CDRRMO will also implement a three-hour signal jammer.

On Sunday night, the replica of the Black Nazarene will be brought to the Pelaez
Sports Complex from the Shrine of the Black Nazarene for a vigil.

A four-kilometer procession will commence at 4:30 a.m. on Monday which will end
at the Shrine of Black Nazarene.

Last year, over 200,000 devotees joined the procession and authorities are
expecting the numbers to rise up this year.
