Abstract
The major aim of this particular research work is to determine how different forms of
intellectual property rights generally help an organization to secure the existing intellectual
property. There are different types of intellectual property rights, such as patent, trademarks,
copyright, industrial design rights, trade secrets, and trade dress. All of these aspects help
organizations to secure the important intellectual property. This particular research work has
adopted qualitative research methodology. It is also important for the organizational management
to focus on intellectual property rights before the creation of intellectual properties. Lastly, it is
also important to take care of different types of stakeholder engagement activities to protect
intellectual properties.

1.0 Introduction
Intellectual property can be referred to the development of intelligence for which a
particular domination is allocated to the delegated owners by law. On the other hand, intellectual
property rights can be considered as the protections facilitated to the developers of intellectual
property, and significantly include copyright, trademarks, industrial design rights, trade secrets,
and patents. It is an important topic as clear understanding can assist a firm to secure
organizational innovations and overcome legal challenges.
The major objective of this particular research work is to determine the effectiveness of
different types of intellectual property rights in the business process. The developed research
question as follows:
How different types of intellectual property can help a firm to protect individual
intellectual asset or property?
However, qualitative research methodology has been used in this particular research work
to gain positive research outcome. Qualitative research methodology is an inquiry method,
which is adopted by the researchers in the natural science as well as social science subjects in
order to gain required information to get appropriate research outcome.

2.0 Different Types of Intellectual Property Rights
Generally, intellectual property rights can help an organization to protect individual
innovation or intellectual asset. There are different types of intellectual property rights that can
be adopted and applied by the organizations in this present era1. These are discussed below.
2.1 A Patent
Patent can be considered as an important form of property rights that are facilitated by the
government to a particular investor2. According to this right, the owners have the fundamental
rights to exclude other parties from the making, selling, using, and offering to import and sell an
innovation for a limited time period3. It is also important to mention that the innovation can be
exchanged through the communal revelation. It is also important to mention that the particular
innovation may be a solution to some serious technological problems. However, according to this
patent right, the innovations should be new, unique, and applicable.
2.2 A Copyright
Copyright also can be considered as an important and effective form of the intellectual
property right. However, this particular property right gives the developer of new, unique, and
original work special rights to the creation. Most importantly, this particular right can be used for
a limited time period. On the other hand, it is also essential to mention that copyright generally
covers the rights of the manners or forms of some creativities, thinking, and ideas that are

innovation, and creative works.
2.3 An Industrial Design Right
An Industrial design right is also considered as an effective intellectual property right that
helps an organization to secure the rights of the objects or visual designs of the firm that are not
completely practical. An Industrial design right consists of several aspects, such as shape
designing, the configuration of color or pattern, and value of handicraft or industrial commodity5.
2.4 The Trademarks
It also can be considered as an effective type of IRP. Trademarks are recognized
expressions, designs, or signs that help an organization to differentiate its products and services
from the goods and services of other organizations6.
2.5 A Trade Dress
Trade dress also can be considered as a unique form of the intellectual property right that
can help an organization to secure the aesthetic and visual appearance of a products package or
design. It is a legal term that is used in the purchasing and consumption process.
2.6 A Trade Secret
Trade secret can be considered as important legal formulae that help an organization to
maintain the safety and security of designs, arts, creation, practice, and process of an

organization quite significantly and carefully7. Different organizations consider this particular
approach to ensure competitive advantages within the industry.

3.0 Findings and Discussion


It is clear from the above review of literature that the organizations can adopt and implement
different types of intellectual property rights. There are some organizations, which used to
protect the copywriting of the brand image. On the other hand, there are some organizations that
want to secure the product manufacturing process or design. Different types of intellectual
property rights can be considered, such as trade dress, trade secret, patent, trademarks, industrial
design rights, and copyrights. All of these IPRs have different characteristics.
It can be discussed that organizations generally prefer the consideration of different types
of intellectual property rights in order to ensure effective and significant competitive edge.
Effective intellectual property right can help an organization in several ways. First of all, it will
help an organization to secure the rights of the products, services, designs, and processes. On the
other hand, it is also important for an organization to ensure business profitability. Effective
intellectual property right can help the organizations to mitigate the risks of copying of designs
and processes. Ultimately, it will play an important role in the business development process.

4.0 Conclusion and Recommendations


It is clear from above findings and discussion that different types of intellectual property
rights play important role in the intellectual property security aspect. Each and every individual

intend that his or her creation is not copied by other individuals. Intellectual property rights help
organizations to protect the creations from copying. Following recommendation plans will help
to overcome the associated challenges.
First of all, it is highly important for an organization to protect the intellectual properties
by considering different types of intellectual property rights. Secondly, it is also important for the
organizational leaders to follow the laws and regulations regarding the intellectual property
rights in order to avoid the legal challenges. Last but not the least; it is highly important for the
organizational leaders to focus on stakeholder engagement in the decision-making process to
protect the intellectual properties.
