Unit 3: Linear

Function
Unit Synopsis:
A system of
equations is a set
of two or more
equations in two
or more variables.

Solving Systems of Equations

This lesson is to show that systems of equations graphically are no more
difficult than graphing two lines and seeing where they intersect.
I can solve systems of equations graphically
Period
Solve Linear Systems Graphically
Students will find the (POI / Solution) when given the graph of a
systems.

Via

Example: given two pairs of coordinates determine whether the

lines will intersect.

A linear system of
Period
equations is a set
of two or more
linear equations. Period
A linear system of
two equations can
be classified in 3 Period
ways: consistent
independent,
consistent
dependent, and
inconsistent.
A consistent
dependent
system consists of
two lines that
intersect in a
single location.

Recognize systems of equations has no solution, one solution, or an

infinite number of solutions.
Find the solution given the system of equation. (Students will be given
the graph of a system and ask to find the solution from the graph)
Convert equations (2x - 2y = 8) in two variable to slope intercept form
y = mx + b.
I can re-write equations in slope-intercept form, graph them to find
the solution, and plug the solution back in to verify my answer with
very few mistakes.
I know how to tell how many solutions a system of equations has by
looking at a graph and by looking at just the equations.
I understand what it is about the structure of the equations that
makes the graphs look the way they do.
I can write a system of equations that would have one solution, no
solution, or infinitely many solutions.

This location is

the solution to the
system.

I can estimate the solution to a system by graphing the equations.

When given a story problem involving a system of equations
I can write a sentence describing what the answer means in the
context. I can also answer additional questions about the situation.
