SCHOOL PROFILE
Annandale High School is located in Fairfax County, a part of the Washington, DC Metropolitan
Area. The first class graduated in 1956. In 1987, Annandale and Jefferson High School were
merged, doubling the geographical area served by Annandale High School. Today, Annandale
offers its students a unique educational experience featuring an economically and ethnically
diverse student population that serves as a model to other schools throughout the country.
Annandale is comprised of students from 64 countries who speak 43 languages, and 79
percent of Annandale's students speak English as a second language. The total enrollment for
the 2016-2017 school year is 2,100; of which 1,264 (60.2%) participate in the free/reduced
lunch program. There are 454 students in the senior class of 2017.
SPECIAL CURRICULUM FEATURES
A comprehensive educational program is offered to meet the needs of Annandale's diverse
student population with program options in general education, special education, EnglishSpeakers-of-Other-Languages, MYP, IB certificate and diploma programs and AP courses.
Annandale features the IB Middle Years Program for 9th and 10th grade students. Over 51
percent of the senior class takes at least one IB course. Annandale High School features a
nationally acclaimed school newspaper and journalism program as well as award-winning
programs in performing and fine arts. These and other fine and technical arts programs are
offered to all students. Annandale requires a minimum of four credits in English and social
studies and three credits in math and science for graduation; however, 57.1 percent of the
students earn the Advanced Studies Diploma with higher requirements in English, social
studies, math, science and foreign language. Annandales graduating class of 2017 has twenty
one IB Diploma candidates.
