Dear HOI,
Science has permeated every walk of our lives, be it in the medical science or
information technology. On the whole it has touched almost all the spectrums
and revamped the quality of life. Its incredulity can be measured by way of
innovations that have left mankind shell-shocked. India, just like the rest of the
world, gives profound recognition to the usefulness of science. In line with the
global trend of conducting science festivals, NES International School Mumbai
has been organizing NES National Science Festival, every year in association
with the IB schools of South Asia International Baccalaureate Schools
Association (SAIBSA). This synergizes creative energy, collective scientific
thinking and interaction among the participants that enhances their further
interest in science. To achieve this, National Science Festival, 2016 is being
organized by NESISM on 27th February, 2016 in the school premises.
The following competitions will be organised and topics for the same can be on
any conventional science subject:

SCIENCE
EXHIBITION

WORKING MODEL
For students of Sub-Junior Group
(Grades 5 to 7), Junior Group
(Grades 8 to 10) and Senior Group
(Grades 11 to 12).

QUIZ COMPETITION For students of Junior Group


(Grades 8 to 10) and Senior Group (Grades 11 to 12).

SCIENTIFIC
DRAWING/PAINTING
CONTEST- For students of Sub-Junior
(Grades 5 to 7), Junior Group (Grades 8
to 10) and Senior Group (Grades 11 to
12). Poster colors, water colors and
color pencils can only be used (sketch
pens, wax crayons, refill pens, ink pens
and oil paints are not allowed). Drawing
sheets will be supplied. Other necessary
materials should be brought by the
students.

ESSAY WRITING - For students of


Sub-Junior (Grades 5 to 7), Junior
Group (Grades 8 to 10) and Senior
Group (Grades 11 to 12).

DEBATE - For students of Sub-Junior


Group (Grades 5 to 7), Junior Group
(Grades 8 to 10) and Senior Group
(Grades 11 to 12). Topic will be given
on the spot.

FILM MAKING Junior Group (Grades 8


to 10) and Senior Group (Grades 11 to
12): Your film should not be longer than
5 minutes. You should try to make the film
interesting to watch and also ensure that
you put in enough details about the
science background of your project. You
could add graphs and other visuals to
demonstrate your work. The judges will
review the summaries and films, and will
assess against the criteria.

DANCE COMPETITION ON SPACE SCIENCE


For students of :
Grades 5 to 7 : Junior Group
Grades 8 to 10 : Senior Group
Grades 11 to 12 : Super Senior Group
Group dance to be performed with a
minimum of 5 participants. The theme of the dance should center around
space science. Duration of the dance should not be more than 4 minutes.

YOUTH
GREEN
PARLIAMENT (NIYGP): The NES International
Youth Green Parliament (NIYGP) is a novel
endeavor of our IBDP section targeted at
furthering youth awareness with respect to
environmental issues that plague the world
today.
To ensure that the actions taken by the students
are acted upon on a global scale by world
authorities, the resolves taken in the NIYGP will
be forwarded to the United Nations Development
Programme for formulating action at the topmost
level of the world.

TEACHERS
SEMINAR
ON
Science as an Interdisciplinary
Subject. - This seminar will be
organized in collaboration with
15 women scientists from IIT
Mumbai, Nehru Science Centre,
BARC, TIFR and Homi Bhaba
Centre.
SKIT : A small skit of 10 minutes
duration should be presented by a group
of 5 students maximum, thus inducing a
sense of scientific awareness among the
audience. The theme needs to be purely
)
based
on science. Junior Group (Grades 8
to 10) and Senior Group (Grades 11 to 12)

BIO- JEWELLERY COMPETITION : To


design jewellery using eco friendly and
degradable
material.
The
required
material has to be brought by the
participants.

Grades 8 to 10 : Senior Group
Grades 11 to 12 : Super Senior Group

WHAT ARE THE JUDGES LOOKING FOR?


The judges will be looking for projects that score highly against the following
main criteria:
1. Project concept - what was the motivation behind your project and what
were your aims?
2. Project process - how well did you plan and organise your work? What sort
of experiments and research did you do? Were you innovative or creative
in your approach?
3. Project outcome - how well did your project achieve its aims? Is your final
product report of a high quality? Does your project have a real-world
application?
4. Personal skills - how well did you deal with any problems or challenges?
How well do you communicate your project? Does your enthusiasm shine
through?
Based on the performance on each item by students, a 3 member team of
judges will decide on the best students (senior group), best students (junior
group) for every event and prizes will be awarded at the hands of the Chief
Guest.
School heads, with the team of students and 2 science teachers, are requested
to kindly participate. Journey expenses and accommodation charges to be
borne by the participating teams.
Since this programme is of very high importance to our nation and is being
participated in, by many schools in India and abroad, with special reference to
SAIBSA schools, teachers and all heads of school are requested to participate in
the event, enrolling their school/students names through the registration format
enclosed, Registration forms should reach the school via email at
nesnsc@nesinternational.org on or before 15th February, 2016. No entry fee is
prescribed. The formal invitation follows.
