REMOVING - REFITTING : FRONT SUBFRAME :

URGENT : Ensure that the precautions relating to safety and cleanliness are adhered to .

1. Removing
Lift and support the vehicle with front wheels suspended .
Remove the front wheels .

Remove :
z The protective panel under the engine (1)
z The under engine deflector (2)

Remove :
z The screws (5)
z The cover bracket (6)
z The screws (3)

Remove :
z The screws (7)

1.2. Front subframe

CAUTION : For vehicles fitted with directional headlamps, uncouple the rod of the sensor located on the anti-roll
bar .

Remove the nut from ball-joint (9) .

N.B. : Support the ball joint taper (9) using a 40 Torx wrench (if necessary) .
Detach the pivot bottom ball-joint from the lower suspension arm .
Remove the nut from ball-joint (10) .
Uncouple the ball-joint .
N.B. : Support the ball joint taper (10) using a 17 mm open-ended spanner (if necessary) .

Remove bolts (11) .

Slacken bolt (13) .
Disengage the torque reaction link (12) .

Move aside the heat shield from the power steering rack .
Remove the bolt (at " a ") .
Move aside the power steering pipes support .

Remove nuts (14) .

Move aside the exhaust bracket .
N.B. : Support the exhaust line in its initial position so as to avoid any stretching of the exhaust line flexible
coupling .

Remove bolts (15) .

Remove the subframe tie-rod (16) (left side) .

Remove nuts (17) .

Attach the rack housing to the exhaust manifold .
Remove bolts (18) .
Support the front subframe with a lifting tool .
Remove :
z The screws (19)
z The subframe rear strengtheners (20)
Separate the subframe from the bodyshell by a few centimetres .
Remove the front subframe .

2. Refitting
URGENT : Always fit new Nylstop nuts .

2.1. Front subframe

Position the front subframe on the vehicle a few centimetres from the bodyshell .
Detach the rack housing from the exhaust manifold .
Engage the steering rack housing fixing studs on the front subframe .
Refit the front subframe .
Put the subframe rear strengtheners (20) in place .
Fit :
z The screws (19) ; Tighten to 9,8 m.daN 0,9 m.daN
z The nuts (17) ; Tighten to 10 m.daN 1,5 m.daN
z The screws (18) ; Tighten to 4 m.daN 0,4 m.daN
Refit the subframe tie-rod (16) .
Replace the bolts (15) ; Tighten to 1,85 m.daN 0,5 m.daN .
Refit the exhaust support on the subframe .
Refit the nuts (14) ; Tighten to 0,75 m.daN 0,2 m.daN .
Refit the power steering pipes support on the subframe .
Refit the screw (at " a ") .
Refit the power steering rack heat shield .
Refit the torque reaction link (12) .
Refit screw (11) ; Tighten to 4 m.daN 0,4 m.daN .
Tighten the screw (13) to 4 0,4 m.daN .
Couple up :
z The ball-joint (10) ; Tighten to 3,6 0,4 m.daN
z The ball-joint (9) ; Tighten to 4,5 0,4 m.daN

2.2. Front subframe extensions

Check the condition of the following components :

z Rubber " b "
z Front subframe extensions (8)
Replace any defective parts .
Fit :
z The front subframe extensions (8)
z The screws (7) ; Tighten to 6,5 m.daN 0,6 m.daN
z The front impact absorber pads (4)
z The screws (3)
z The cover bracket (6)
z The screws (5) ; Tighten to 8,5 m.daN 0,8 m.daN
z The under engine deflector (2)
z The protective panel under the engine (1)
Refit the front wheels .
Return the vehicle to its wheels .
Tighten the wheel bolts to 10 1 m.daN .
Check and adjust the wheel tracking .
