Message from the President

Seasons greetings members

am pleased to be able to offer

you some cheerful spirit on
behalf of your cooperative.
We have been very busy, and very
focused on our business since the
Annual General Meeting last April.
We were successful in
completing the sale and installation
of two roof-top solar PV systems,
one on the Demmitt Community
Hall in Alberta, and one on a
residence in Fort St. John (see
pages 2 and 3 of this newsletter).
In addition, we produced and sold
a number of solar PV assessment
reports for potential customers.
Electric scooter and bike sales went
very well. We sold nearly all of our
inventory.
The most exciting news has been
our participation in the District of
Hudsons Hopes solar PV project.
This project, to put solar PV on all
suitable municipal buildings in the
District of Hudsons Hope, is valued
at more than $1 million. PEC has
been engaged by Urban Systems,
the project manager, to evaluate and

propose appropriate PV arrays for

all of these buildings, work which
we have now completed. Hudsons
Hope will be announcing the short
list of potential supply and install
contractors for this large solar PV
project in January.
We finish this difficult year for
PEC with much greater optimism
and confidence than when we
entered it last January. We have
greatly improved our financial
stability, and anticipate expanded
interest and sales of PV systems
and solar design consultation in the
coming year.
On behalf of our directors and
staff I wish you all a safe and joyful
holiday season, and thank you for
your continuing support.
Steve Rison, President

You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

6.8 kw Grid-Tie

Fort St. John, BC

For a long time, we have

thought about ways to save
energy and be part of the
solution. Our investment in
solar, about the same as a
bathroom renovation, will
mean no electric bills for
years to come, and with the
predicted rate hikes on the
horizon, THAT is a very good
thing.
Barbara Daley

Owners: Barbara and Brian Daley, Fort St. John, BC

Description: The Daleys have installed a grid-tied

array on an east-facing roof that has essentially no

shading. The steep roof slope of 33 degrees provides
excellent solar exposure and good snow shedding in
the winter. The SolarEdge optimizers not only insure

maximum panel efficiency, but also added safety

by providing individual panel shut-down with grid
failure, plus free internet monitoring that shows and
records the output of every panel in the array in real
time.

INCLUDED in this custom grid-tie package:

Custom designed & supplied by Peace Energy Co-op

Installed by PEC / Perry McFie of Haab Homes, FSJ
(22) HES 310 watt solar modules
(22) SolarEdge optimizers
SolarEdge grid-tie inverter with internet monitoring
Fast Rack roof mounting system

6.2 kw Grid-Tie

Demmitt, Alberta

Demmitt Community Hall

Description: South-facing roof provides excellent
solar exposure with essentially no shading. The high,
steep steel roof angle is good for shedding snow and
increasing winter solar gain, but required installation
by bucket truck (inset) which was slower and more

expensive than the usual hand-installation for a normally

sloped roof. Power Optimizers were chosen to provide
maximum efficiency and module-level monitoring. This
array should produce about 80% of the electricity used by
this very energy efficient building.

The Demmitt Hall was designed to last generations while

keeping its environmental footprint as small as possible. It
was built with pine beetle killed timber from a nearby forest,
insulated with straw bales from the community, and utilizes
composting toilets.
The slope of the south facing roof is at the ideal angle for
solar panels so naturally installing a PV system was the next
step to further reduce the footprint of the Demmitt Hall.
Members of the community and friends of the hall worked

a casino to raise the funds required to install a grid-tied PV

system. The system offsets over 80% of the power used at
the hall and is designed so it can easily be expanded in the
future.
Using the power of the sun to offset the energy consumed
adds to the legacy of the Demmitt Hall and the principles on
which it was constructed.
