January 2017
We started off the month with a movie night at
the orphanage. It warms our hearts so much to see
the kids laugh. I also had several meetings with the
director. Weve been trying to figure out how we can
help the kids when theyre required to leave because
of age. We just want to stop the trend of leaving and
living on the streets or going back to the situation they
were removed from when they were young. This
month we also had a photo day. The kids, house moms
and staff love receiving pictures of themselves. We
also gave each one a panatone which is considered
their favorite treat during the holiday.
During our program in Cullpa this month, a
new boy named Jean Franco and his mom came. He is
4 years old and deaf. Since he cant hear he cant talk.
There is very little available for him in the mountains.
His mom takes him to some type of therapy one day a
week, but there is no sign language offered. Weve
started checking around and so far weve had no luck
finding him help. We will keep looking. Please keep
this family in your prayers.
We were permitted to take our team into the
women's prison. This is not a normal occurrence.
Jennifer's Bible study group was so excited that they
made sure a canopy was set up so we weren't in the
sun. I was permitted to give a message to all the
women in the prison along with some of the guards.
After the message, we gave out over 120 Bibles,
panatone and hot chocolate. One of the prisoners told
Jennifer that when she reads the Bible Satan attacks

Hungry
We had an older couple come to our program in Palian and ask if they could eat with the kids. I've
talked to this man several times over the years and he always seemed uncomfortable. As time went by, I
notice him and his wife watching us with the kids. One day he approached me during our Bible lesson and
asked if he and his wife could eat. I told him we would love to have them join us. Their names are Julio and
Elena. Julio spent a year in the army when he was 17 years old back when the terrorist group The Shining
Path was going strong. At this time all teenagers were required to serve 1 year. The area he served was
very fierce in battle with the terrorists. This is also where he met Elena. After his term they moved to
Huancayo. Julio suffers from severe epilepsy and Elena has such pain in her legs its hard for her to walk.
Because of this Julio and Elena are shunned by the community and this makes it impossible for him to find
work. They have a son who is ashamed of them. He has moved away and has no contact with them. For
money they raise a few sheep to sell so they can buy rice and potatoes. These sheep are so important to
them that they sleep in the same area with them. They have water in their home but no electric and live
very primitively. For several reasons, theyre down to two young sheep that will not be ready to sell for
another year. After they sell the sheep Im not sure how they will acquire more if they dont mate them. I
asked them if they believed in Jesus. They said yes, but the
people in the church want nothing to do with them. Why does
this not surprise me? I found out they didnt have a Bible and I
also found out that Elena cant read. Jennifer and I are pretty
certain that Julio cant read either but didnt want us to know.
I gave them a Bible that day and told them at the next
program I would give them a solar powered audio Bible. They
seemed surprised when I showed up with the audio Bible and
Elena started to cry. She was excited at the thought of hearing
the Bible for the first time. I cant wait to follow up with them.
Now, they assist us with our kids club. They help by putting
toys away and passing out papers, its very sweet.
This couple showed up because they were so hungry and desperate for food. But, we also learned
that they were hungry for the word of God too. Thank you, to Alexandria UMC, for the solar powered
audio Bibles. We can definitely use more;) People told us we cant help everyone, but we can help one
person at a time. This isnt just our ministry, it is your ministry also. You are working with us, serving God
in Peru. Thank you so much.
1 Peter 2:2-3 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your
salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

God has been very clear that we cannot do anything alone. First we
need Him, second we need the Body of Christ. We will never be
effective ministers of Gods word without your prayers and financial
support. Please consider partnering with us to further Gods Kingdom in Peru.
