1.0

INTRODUCTION

Project report refers to the original research conducted by a student in fulfilment of the requirements
for a bachelor degree. These detailed guidelines have to be adhered to strictly for the submission of
final year projects.

2.0

CONTENTS OF THE PROJECT

The Project Report should contain the items as listed below

2.1
FRONT COVER (Grey Cover)
All information must be listed in the following order

Title of the Project Report (in CAPITAL LETTERS).


Students full name.
Name of the guide (in CAPITAL LETTERS).
GEC logo.
Name of the college and place.
Year of submission.

Refer to sample in appendix A


2.2

SPINE(left)

Side cover should have the following items

Name of the degree


Year of submission

Refer to sample in appendix B

2.3

TITLE PAGE

The title page must contain information listed in the following order
Title of the Project Report (in CAPITAL LETTERS)
Students full name
Name of guide (in CAPITAL LETTERS)
GEC logo
Name of the college and place

Year of submission

(The title page is not included in the contents list).

2.4

DECLARATION/UNDERTAKING

Students are to declare the originality of their Project Report.


Refer to sample in Appendix D.

2.5

CERTIFICATE PAGE

A certification (from Head of Department and internal examiner) stating that the Contents of the
report are the work done by the students under their supervision.
Refer to appendix E
2.6

PROJECT WORK APPROVAL PAGE

This should include

Data stating the approval of the project


Name of the students
Signature of the guide upon completion of the project

Refer to appendix F.
2.7

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The student may thank those who have extended help (individuals or organisations) in completion of
their project report. Keep acknowledgements short.
Refer to sample in Appendix G.

2.8

ABSTRACT /SYNOPSIS

The abstract is a digest to the entire project. It should allow the reader who is unfamiliar with the
work a brief exposition of the research problems, purposes of the study, method, results,
recommendations and conclusions drawn from the project. The abstract should be placed
immediately before the first chapter of the report and should not be more than 500 words nor should
be not more than one page in length preferably

TABLE OF CONTENTS

This page should list all the chapters, subchapters, tables, figures, summary, conclusions, references
appendix etc. (as per the corresponding page numbers). (Title page is not included in the table of
contents list).
Refer to sample in appendix H.

2.10

LIST OF FIGURES

This page should list all the figures which are present in the project report together with their page
numbers. Illustrations such as maps diagrams, photographs, graphs, charts and are referred asfigures.
All figures must be clearly visible and of good quality.
Refer to sample in Appendix I.

2.11

LIST OF TABLES

This page should list all the tables which are present in the project report together with their page
numbers. All tables in the Project Report should be word-processed. Photocopies are not permitted
Refer to sample in Appendix J.

2.12

LIST OF ABBREVIATIONS / ACRONYMS

This page should list all the abbreviations /acronyms/symbols which are present in the project report
in alphabetical order.
Refer to sample in Appendix K

2.13

REFRENCES

References are resources from which information was obtained in preparing the Project Report. The
details of every reference must be listed alphabetically in this page.
Refer to appendix M
2.14 APPENDIX(optional)
These should be sequentially numbered starting with Appendix 1. Pagination continues form the
main body of the document through the appendices.

3.0

BODY OF THE PROJECT

The body of the project should contain the following

Content
The introduction should include a full but concise statement of:
The background to the investigation. This should reflect title of the project
The aims or objectives of the investigation.

This section should contain an in-depth review of work relevant to your


investigation.
The important part of this section is your reporting and discussion of the
literature,

Methodology

How you studied the problem and what you used ( materials, equipment)
How you performed the research( methods and procedure.)

This section will require presentation of relevant formulae, equations, etc.


leading to the appropriate theoretical prediction (s)( do not include
unnecessary derivations, if they have no relation on the work in the report.
All equations should be prepared using a software package, such as
Microsoft Equation Editor .
summarise the project, objective , the methodology adopted and the work

Suggest further work for your research area.

lowercase, Bold, Centred, 18pt.
Chapter Sub-section: lower case, Bold, Align left, 14pt.
Symbol for variable : Italic
Pagination - should be numbered consecutively (in Arabic
numerals), including appendices.
Page number should be without brackets, about 2.5 cm from the
bottom edge and centred.
The preliminary are numbered in lower case Roman Numerals
(i, ii, etc.).
The title page is counted in the numbering, but bears no page
number.
All chapters and their subsections must be numbered and titled.
Never subdivide beyond three levels e.g. 3.1.1.2.
