1.0 Overview
This document contains procedures to be used in performing Pre-Testing and Production Testing
of the Globe i250 system. Section 2.0 contains Pre-Test Procedures that will be used to prepare
and test the Globe i250 for storage in preparation for future use. Section 3.0 contains the
Production Testing Procedures that are to be used during the validation, configuration, and
functional testing of the Globe i250 in preparation for shipment to a customer and/or installation on a
vessel.
Note:

Any problems with, or deviations from this Manufacturing Procedure must be reported and
documented as per QMP-830 Nonconforming Product Procedure.

2.0 Globe i250 Pre-Test Procedures


The following Pre-Test Procedures are to be used in performing BIOS, Software and Firmware
upgrades on a Globe i250 that has either not been through Production Testing or has been worked
and needs to be upgraded. Lastly, Diagnostic Testing is performed to ensure operational capability of
the units sub-assemblies.
Prerequisites for performing the procedures follow:
USB Thumb Drive containing the latest BIOS
USB Thumb Drive containing the latest version of i250 Software
PC containing the latest version of FBB Firmware
USB Test Thumb Drive
Valid Pre-paid Test SIM
Known good Globe i250 ADE and RF cable

2.1

BIOS Flash

Step 1:

Ensure power to the Globe i250 is off.

Step 2:

Attach an AC Cord to the Globe i250 from a Critical Load Power source.

Step 3:

Connect a Keyboard to one of the rear Globe i250 USB ports.

Step 4:

Connect a Monitor to the Globe i250 VGA port to be used as the i250 Console.

Step 5:

Insert the latest released BIOS Thumb Drive into one of the front USB slots.

Step 6:

Power on the Globe i250 BDE and press F11 continuously until the boot menu appears
on the monitor.

Step 7:

Select USB: USB Flash Disk, and press Enter.

Step 8:

At the DOS prompt type flash, and press Enter.

Step 9:

After the system completes BIOS flashing, the unit will return to the DOS prompt. Power
off the Globe i250.

Step 10:

Remove the BIOS Thumb Drive.

Step 11:

Power on the Globe i250 and press Delete continuously until the BIOS SETUP
UTILITY page appears.

Step 12:

Verify the BIOS Build Date and VBIOS Version is correct. If not, repeat flashing the
BIOS, beginning with Step 2, above.

Step 13:

Verify the System Date is correct, and/or update according to BIOS SETUP UTILITY
screen procedures.

Step 14:

Arrow to the Exit Options and Load Optimal Defaults.

Step 15:

Arrow to the Save Changes, Enter and Exit.

2.2

Software Upgrade

Step 1:

Obtain a Globe i250 USB Thumb Drive with the latest released software and place it
into one of the front USB slots.

Step 2:

Power on the Globe i250 from the front panel.

Step 3:

Watch for the Globe i250 USB Installer to appear.

Step 4:

Immediately cursor down to the Extras Menu and press Enter.

Step 5:

Watch for the Force Globe i250 Rebuild *Warning to appear and press Enter.

Step 6:

Watch for the Prompt: Are you sure you wish to proceed. Type Y and press Enter.
The system will reboot from the front panel Globe i250 USB drive and start an install
update automatically.

Step 7:

Once the software installation is complete and the system automatically powers off,
remove the USB Thumb Drive.

Firmware Upgrade

Step 1:

Using a T10 Torx Driver, open the SIM Cover, insert a Production Test SIM, and close
and secure the SIM Cover.

WARNING:

Care must be taken during installation of the Production Test SIM. The SIM Holder
may not be positioned to allow easy access and insertion of the SIM. Once installed,
depress the spring loaded SIM and re-install, ensuring correct alignment.

Step 2:

Connect an RF cable with adjoining Globe i250 ADE to the i250 Antenna connector.

Step 3:

Connect an Ethernet cable from a PC to the WAN 2 port on the BDE and configure the
PC with an IP Address of 10.97.97.45.

Step 4:

Power on the Globe i250.

Step 5:

Monitor the Globe i250 as it completes its three boot sequences. The boot sequences
may take up to 30 minutes or more to complete.

Note:

The boot sequences will complete with their own Login Prompt:
First Boot Prompt:

Third Boot Prompt:

User ID Number XXXXXX and Login:

Step 6:

Wait until the READY light flashes steady green.

Step 7:

Using the Globe i250 Console, login as root, and use ce1177 as the password.

Warning:

The following step prevents the Globe i250 Core from being Power Cycled. It is
extremely important that this step be followed to prevent damaging the FBB Core.

Step 8:

At the Prompt, enter the following command: bgan_safe_mode. The monitor displays
System is in Safe Mode.

Step 9:

Monitor the front of the Globe i250, and when the Ready Light alternates between Red
and Green, it is safe to continue with the procedure.

Step 10:

Using the PC connected to the terminals WAN 2 Port, open the web browser and type
https://10.97.97.35:9980 in the address field. The Globe i250 FBB Web Interface
Login screen will appear.

Step 11:

Enter the following into the username and password fields:

Click the Login button. The CONTROL PANEL will be displayed.


Step 12:

Click the Settings icon at the top of the FBB Web Interface page.

Step 13:

Click on the Admin tab, under the icons.

Step 14:

Click on the Firmware Upgrade tab on the left side of the screen.

Step 15:

Click on the Firmware Upgrade button.

Step 16:

Monitor the front of the Globe i250 and watch for the terminal to reboot into safe mode.
All four (4) of the FBB Core LEDs should begin and continue flashing amber.

Step 17:

Refresh the PC screen and Log back into the FBB Web Interface page using the same
username and password as in the previous step (11) (Username - service_rep;
Password - eb0lg). Click the Login button.

Step 18:

The FBB Web Interface will again open and the Globe i250 CONTROL PANEL will
appear displaying Safe Mode. Click the Browse button. Browse and open the latest
released firmware package to be uploaded.

Note:

The typical Firmware Convention will appear as: GW_i250-FB250-r00X.X.X.fb

Step 19:

Click the Upload button. The Firmware will begin transferring files.

Step 20:

Monitor the FBB Web Interface page and wait for the download to complete.

Step 21:

While still monitoring the FBB Web Interface, click the Reboot Terminal link to exit
safe mode, and monitor the unit through the complete rebooting sequences.

Step 22:

Using the Globe i250 Console, again type the command bgan_safe_mode.
monitor displays system is not in Safe Mode.

Step 23:

Using the Globe i250 Console, type reboot, and press Enter. Monitor the unit through
the complete rebooting sequences.

Step 24:

Return to the FBB Web Interface and click on the Settings icon.

Step 25:

Click on the Terminal Info tab and verify the Firmware Version has been updated.

Step 26:

Return to the FBB Web Interface and click on the Data icon.

Click on the Refresh button.

Power off the Globe i250.

Step 31:

Remove the RF cable connector from the Globe i250.

Step 32:

Using a T10 Torx Driver, open the SIM Card Cover, remove the Production Test SIM,
and close and secure the SIM Card Cover.

Note:

Globe i250 Diagnostic Test


When performing Diagnostic Testing, it is important to follow the procedures as displayed
on the Globe i250 Console. Diagnostic Tests that Pass will be displayed as Passing upon
completion of the individual test. Some steps require pressing Enter on the keyboard and
some steps require pressing R on the keyboard. Some Tests that Fail the first time, can
be retried by pressing R; otherwise the Diagnostics will need to be completed and
restarted.

Step 1:

With the Test SIM removed and Globe i250 ADE disconnected, Power On the Globe
i250.

Step 2:

Verify that a keyboard and monitor are connected to Globe i250.

Step 3:

Monitor the Globe i250 Console and ensure the unit boots through its third boot
sequence and displays the User ID Number of the Test SIM on the Globe i250
Console.

Step 4:

Monitor the Globe i250 Ready Lamp until it is flashing a steady Green.

Step 5:

Via the Globe i250 Console, login as diagnostic with a password of diag.

Note:

If the Globe i250 Console displays System Not Yet Ready Wait for a Few Minutes and
Try Again! wait, and repeat the previous step to log in again. When the system is ready
for testing the following will appear on the Console:
*** i250 HARDWARE TEST***

Step 6:

Press Enter to start ITX BIOS Test.

Step 7:

Press Enter to start the ITX Voltage Test.

Step 8:

Press Enter to start the ITX Temperature Test.

Step 9:

Press Enter to start the Memory Test.

Step 10:

Press Enter to start the CF Test. The CF (Compact Flash) Test may fail dependant on
the version of CF installed. Failing the test does not mean the CF is faulty.

Step 11:

Press Enter to start the SSD Test.

Step 12:

Press Enter to start the FBB Connection Test.

Step 13:

Using a straight Ethernet cable and a PC configured for IP Address 192.168.1.35, make
a connection between the PC and the LAN 1 Port.

Step 14:

Press Enter to start the LAN Connection Test.

Step 15:

Relocate the Ethernet cable connection to the LAN 2 Port and Press R, to repeat the
test.

Step 16:

Relocate the Ethernet cable connection to the LAN 3 Port and Press R, to repeat the
test.

Step 17:

Relocate the Ethernet cable connection to the LAN 4 Port and Press R, to repeat the
test.

Step 18:

Press Enter.

Step 19:

Place the USB Test Thumb Drive into one of the front USB Ports and Press Enter to
start the USB Flash Drive Test. Press R to repeat testing if required.

Step 20:

Remove the USB Test Thumb Drive and Press Enter.

Step 21:

Press Enter to start the FXO Port 0 check.

Step 22:

Press R to repeat the test if required or press Enter to continue on to other testing.

Step 23:

Connect a standard RJ-11 cable between the FXS (Globe Voice Line in) and the FXO
Port 1 (Globe Voice OUT 1). Press Enter.

Step 25:

Press R to repeat the test if required or press Enter to continue on to other testing.

Step 26:

Connect the RJ-11 cable between the FXS and FXO Port 2 (Globe Voice OUT 2) and
press Enter. Press R to repeat the test if required or press Enter to continue.

Step 28:

Connect the RJ-11 cable between the FXS and FXO Port 3 (Globe Voice OUT 3) and
press Enter. Press R to repeat the test if required or press Enter to continue.

The Globe i250 Console will display Test Complete.


Note:

All Diagnostic Tests (except CF Test) must Pass to accept the Globe i250 as fully
functional. If the unit fails any Diagnostic tests, complete the testing, log back in to the
Diagnostics and perform the testing once again. If the unit continues to fail some diagnostic
tests, power the unit off and once again, perform the Diagnostics procedure starting at Step
1. If the unit continues to fail any of the diagnostic tests, escalate the issue to higher
engineering authorities.

2.5

Package and Labeling

Step 1:

Re-package the Pre-Tested Globe i250 into its designated box, ensuring the units
serial number matches the serial number marked on the box.

Step 2:

Complete a Pre-Tested Label with the following information:


Date Pre-Tested:
Bios installed:
Software Revision installed:
Firmware Revision installed:

Step 3:

Secure the Pre-Tested Label to the right side of the box in a visible location.

3.0 Globe i250 Production Test Procedures


The following Production Test Procedures are used to prepare, configure, and functionally test a
Globe i250 in preparation for shipment to a customer and/or installation on a vessel.
Prerequisites for performing these procedures follow:
Pre-Tested Globe i250
Valid Customer SIM
Known good nano BTS configured for use with a Globe i250
Known good Globe i250 ADE and RF cable
Note:

3.1

The ADE and RF Cabling are for testing the Globe i250 only. The ADE is not included in
the Production Testing.

SIM Validation

Step 1:

Obtain the Customers SIM from Ship Administration.

Step 2:

Email the IMSI to the IMSI Test Address (imsitest@globei250.com). Place the IMSI in
the body of the email and DO NOT enter a subject.

Step 3:

Within a few minutes an IMSI Report should be received showing that the IMSI is Valid.
The report should also contain the User ID Number to which the IMSI has been
assigned. Make note of the User ID Number for later use. This number will appear later
on the Globe i250 Console after the final boot sequence.

Step 4:

If the IMSI Report shows the IMSI as being Invalid, wait five (5) minutes and email the
IMSI to the IMSI Test Address once again.

Step 5:

After subsequent failed attempts to validate the IMSI, email GW Production Support
explaining the problem with the IMSI, and include the Vessel Name, Call Sign and
IMSI in the email.

3.2

Adding Additional Gateways

For vessels that are to have a Secondary Gateway installed along with the Globe i250:
Step 1:

Using a PC with a connection to the Internet, open the web browser and type
http://i250.globeifusion.com into the address field. Press Enter to open the Globe
i250 Shore Side Portal.

Step 2:

Type the User ID Number in the User ID: field and password in the Password: field.
Click the Login button. Remember that the User ID is obtained from the IMSI Report
(refer to Section 3.1, Step 3).

Step 3:

The Globe i250 Users page should appear. If not, click on the Network tab. Verify the
User ID and Vessel name are correct.

Step 4:

Click the Gateways tab on the left side.

Step 5:

In the TCP/IP Gateways window, click the plus (+) sign.

System Configuration

Perform the following procedures to bring the Globe i250 to an operational state in preparation for
functional system testing:
Step 1:

Ensure power to the Globe i250 is off.

Step 2:

Using a T10 Torx Driver, open the SIM Cover, insert the Valid Customer SIM, and
close and secure the SIM Card Cover.

WARNING:

Care must be taken during installation of the Customer SIM. The SIM Holder may
not be positioned to allow easy access and insertion of the SIM. Once installed,
depress the spring loaded SIM and re-install ensuring correct alignment.

Step 3:

Attach an AC Cord to the Globe i250 from a Critical Load Power source.

Step 4:

Connect an RF cable with adjoining Globe i250 ADE to the i250 Antenna connector.

Step 5:

Connect a Keyboard to one of the rear Globe i250 USB ports.

Step 6:

Connect a Monitor to the Globe i250 VGA port to be used as the i250 Console.

Step 7:

Power on the Globe i250.

Step 8:

Monitor the i250 Console as it completes the three boot sequences.

Step 11:

Using the Globe i250 Console, login as root, and ce1177 as the password.

Step 12:

At the Globe i250 Console prompt, type ssh 10.97.98.209 and press Enter.

Step 13:

Type r0sedale as the password, and press Enter.

Note:

This places the user into the Globe Mobile (GM) Console.

Step 14:

Type cfg and press Enter.

Step 15:

Type more config.txt and press Enter. The monitor will display the contents of the
Systems Configuration File.

Step 16:

Observe the Generic System Configuration. Verify that the Name is the same as
IMSI or Data ID (ex: 901112114125990). If the Name is incorrect, wait for the unit to
reboot.

Note:

The GM Core will reboot in up to 15 minutes. During this time the Globe i250 will update
the GM Configuration from Shore Side. Watch for the Globe i250 Console to display:
The system is going down for reboot NOW! and Connection to 10.97.98.209 closed.
Repeat Steps 11 14 until the units Name is correct will ensure that the Globe i250 has
completed the final part of the booting process and is ready for testing.

Step 17:

Connect an Ethernet cable from a PC to the WAN 2 port on the BDE and configure the
PC with an IP Address of 10.97.97.45 and a Default Gateway of 10.97.97.35.

Step 18:

Using the PC connected to the terminals WAN 2 Port, open the web browser and type
https://10.97.97.35:9980 in the address field. Click Enter to display the Globe i250
FBB Web Interface Login screen.

Step 19:

Enter the following into the username and password fields:

Step 20:

Click the Login button to open the Globe i250 FBB Core Web Interface.

Step 21:

Click on the Data icon.

Step 22:

Click on the Connection tab and verify there is a good data connection. If no data
connection exists, force one by pressing the Activate Default Profile button. If the
data connection continues to fail, email GW ProdNet explaining the problem and
providing the Vessel Name, Call Sign and IMSI in the email.

Step 23:

Once connected, verify the APN assigned is globe.bgan.inmarsat.com.

Step 24:

Verify that the LED Lamp on the BTS is solid Green.

Step 25:

Using the PC connected to the terminals WAN 2 Port, open a second Browser tab and
type https://10.97.97.210 in the address field. Click Enter to display the Globe i250
iPortal Web Interface login screen.

Step 26:

Type admin in the User ID: Field and password in Password: field. Click the Login
button to open the Globe i250 iPortal Web Interface.

Step 27:

Click on the GlobeMobile tab.

Step 28:

Click on the Status tab on the left side of the page.

Step 29:

Check that the GM System Health Lamps are all green.

Step 30:

Click on the Admin tab on the left side of the page.

Step 31:

Verify the BTS Locked On button is Green. If not, force the BTS to Lock On by
clicking on the BTS Always On button and waiting for the unit to refresh.

Step 32:

Click on the Network tab at the top of the page.

Step 33:

Click on the User tab on the left side of the page.

Step 34:

Verify the User Name (User ID Number) and Name (Vessel Name) is correct.

Step 35:

If the unit has an additional gateway assigned, click on Gateway and verify it is
assigned. Refer to Section 3.2.

3.4

GSM Voice and SMS Tests

Perform the following procedures using a GSM Phone to test the operational capability of the Globe
i250 in support of GSM Mobile Voice and Text:
Step 1:

Verify an Ethernet connection between the Globe i250 GV Ant Port and the associated
BTS.

Step 2:

Verify the LED Lamp on the associated BTS is solid Green.

Step 3:

Verify a GlobeMobile SIM is being used in the GSM phone.

Step 4:

Using the Globe i250 Console Log, login as root, with a password of ce1177.

Step 5:

On the Globe i250 Console prompt, type ssh 10.97.98.209 and press Enter.

Step 6:

Type r0sedale as the password, and press Enter.

Step 7:

Type trace and press Enter.

Step 8:

Type tail f protrace.log and press Enter. This will display a Log File showing
Protocol Messaging between the GM Core and the GSM Phone.

Step 9:

Power on/Log on to the GSM phone. Monitor the Trace Log to verify the GSM phone
is functionally operating through the Globe i250 while following the voice and text calls.

Step 10:

Monitor the GSM phone and verify the phone has registered with the Globe Wireless
network.

Note:

Step 11:

Upon completion of the GSM Phone Registering with the Network, two text messages will
be received by the GSM phone. One message will welcome the user to the Globe Mobile
Network. The other will signify the GSM phone as a Network User and provide the User ID
number. It is important that this number be written down and saved for later use during
testing.
Dial the desired phone number in the following format:
+ Country Code+Area Code+Subscribers Number
Example: +13213095771

Step 12:

Verify the call was received and voice quality is good.

Step 13:

Dial a text message number (*#132# or *#100#) and verify receipt of the text.

Step 14:

Using the PC connected to the terminals WAN 2 Port, open the Tab connected to the
https://10.97.97.210 address field.

Step 15:

Click on the Network icon on the top row.

Step 16:

Click on the User tab on the left side of the screen.

Step 17:

Verify the telephone number of the GSM phone appears as a user under User Name.

Step 18:

On the Globe i250 Console, press Ctrl-C to stop the Trace Log from running.

Step 19:

Logout.

3.5

Sending and Receiving E-mail

Perform the following procedures using the Test PC and a PC capable of connecting to the Internet or
Globe Wireless to test the operational capability of the Globe i250 to send and receive email.
Step 1:

Using the PC connected to the terminals WAN 2 Port; open the tab connected to the
Globe i250 iPortal Web Interface (https://10.97.97.210).

Step 2:

Type the Phone Number of the GSM phone used during GSM Voice Testing in the
User ID: field, and enter the Users ID Number in the Password: field.

Step 3:

Click the Login button to open the Globe i250 email page.

Step 4:

Click the Compose button to open the Compose email screen.

Step 5:

Populate the To: field with an address that can be easily accessed from another PC
with Internet or Globe Wireless access.

Step 6:

Populate the Subject: field and type a short test message in the message body area.

Step 7:

Click the Send button.

Step 8:

Using a PC with a connection to the Internet or Globe Wireless, verify the email
message was received.

Step 9:

Reply to the email message.

Step 10:

Using the PC connected to the terminals WAN 2 Port, in Step 1 above, Click on Inbox.

Step 11:

Verify the email message was received.

Step 12:

Delete ALL email messages from the Sent, Inbox, and Deleted folders.

Step 13:

Log Off the Globe i250 i Portal.

3.6

Voice Connections via Phone and FAX Ports

Perform the following procedures using a POTS Telephone to test the operational capability of the
Globe i250 in making voice connections using the Globe i250 Phone and FAX Jacks.
Step 1:

Connect a POTS telephone to the Globe i250 RJ-11 phone jack.

Step 2:

Dial the desired phone number followed by the # sign in the following format:
00+Country Code+Area Code+Subscribers Number+#
Example: 0013213095771#

Step 3:

Verify the call was received and voice quality is good.

Step 4:

Connect a POTS telephone to the Globe i250 RJ-11 FAX jack.

Note:
Step 5:

The FAX is used for faxing as well as voice calls.

Step 6:

Repackaging

Step 1:

Complete a Globe i250 Checklist (Appendix A) verifying all tests (Yes/NO) and
appropriate i250 data entries. Print and attach the checklist to the top of the Globe
i250.

Step 2:

Complete an entry in the daily Production Log.

Step 3:

Carefully re-package the Globe i250 into its designated box, ensuring the units serial
number matches the serial number marked on the box, and on the Checklist.

Step 4:

Sign the work order and move the box to the shipping area.
