Basic Theory
Heat changes in chemical reactions are studied in Thermo chemistry. Heat
changes can take place in a fixed volume or pressure. Heat changes on the
volume remains the same with the change of energy in, U. While the heat change in
the pressure remains the same with enthalpy change, H. When the system is studied
only concerns the solid or liquid substances (very small volume changes), then the
work done system can be ignored. Therefore U = H.
The magnitude of the change in chemical reactions, heat can be measured
with a calorimeter (temperature is measured). Every calorimeter has distinctive
properties in measuring heat since calorimeter himself (both made of glass, metal or
polyene) absorb heat, so not all the heat arising measurable. Therefore before use,
must first be determined calorimeter constants. Calorimeter constants that is the
amount of heat absorbed by the calorimeter to raise the temperature of one degree.
Thermal change is studied, not directly measurable. But, that can be directly
measured are necessary changes temperature. Change temperature T can be
determined with charts.

Work procedures
5.1. determination of the calorimeter constants:
1. 50 mL water Input into the calorimeter with the burette. Write down the
temperature
2. Prepare hot water 50 mL 10 degrees above room temperature. Write
down the temperature.
3. Combine the hot water into the calorimeter, stirring until well mixed.
Observe the temperature for 10 minutes 1 seconds after mixing.
4. Create curve observations of temperature against time lapse, to determine
the price decrease hot water temperature and temperature rise in cold
water.
5.2. determination of the heat of reaction of Zn(s)+ CuSO4 (aq)
1. Enter 40 ml solution of CuSO4 1 M into the calorimeter and note
temperature for 2 minutes with an interval of half a minute.
2. Carefully Weigh 3 grams of Zn powder (atomic mass of Zn = 65.4) and
enter into a calorimeter which has filled solution CuSO 4. Note the
temperature for 10 minutes with an interval of 1 minute
3. Specify the temperature rise using graphs

notes:
Density of water is considered 1 g/cm3
Heat water, type c is considered constant 4.2 J/g/cm3
q6 = q4 + q5
= [ k + (40 x 1.4 x clar)] T J
In this reaction stoichiometry involves 0.040 Mole substance. The reaction
