COOLING WATER SYSTEM

The cooling water system will consist of an open sea water cycle and a closed freshwater cycle. Sea water will be
taken with two circulating pumps from the feed common manifold. Freshwater comes from the demineralizated
water system.

SEA WATER PUMPING SYSTEM.

Sea water pumping system will support a stable operation of the combined cycle electrical power station, assuring a
surely and continuous water flow.
This system will require the construction of:
The pipes supplied;
A raft to filter and pump sea water;
A common feeding manifold;
A distribution cooling water system to the condensers and the auxiliary services coolants of the
combined cycle electrical power station;
A common return manifold;
An electrochloration unit.
The system will include the following parts:
Sea water intake;
Protection screen;
Sea water supply piping;
Filtration system, including:

Fixed screens. Each screen will ensure a minimal flow of 8.9 m3/s with a pressure loss
lower than 2 cm in clean state and it support an hydrostatic load higher than 1 m;

Screens cleaning devices (automatic);

Rotating filters. Each filter will ensure a minimal flow of 7.5 m 3/s at the minimal level
with a pressure loss lower than 5 cm and it will be designed to support a level different
between upstream and downstream higher than 1 m.

Pumping station, including two (2) sea water vertical pumps an other two booster pumps;
Electrochloration unit. This installation will produce and inject sodium hypochlorite in sea water feed,
in order to avoid the proliferation of marine animal-life in pipes and equipment. The unit will made up of:

One (1) electrolyser, composed of electrolytic cells with modular design;

One (1) rectifier current transformer;

Two (2) sea water feed pumps;

One (1) hypochlorite solution storage tank;

Two (2) hypochlorite solution injection pumps (centrifugal horizontal pumps) and the
spare pumps;

One (1) hydrogen gas extractor.

Sea water return common manifold.

CLOSED CYCLE COOLING WATER SYSTEM

The system will ensure the cooling of the following equipment:

Inter stages air compressors coolants;
Machines bearing coolants;
Sampling coolants;
Steam turbine oil circuit;
etc...

COOLING WATER CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

Demineralized water, sucked from a cooling water tank, is pumped by two (2) electropumps (one is 100% stand by).
Freshwater will be cooled with two (2) heat exchanger working in parallel (one is 100% stand by).
The cooling water tank is fed with demineralized water by level regulation. This tank feeds cooling water circulation
pumps and makes up for circuit leakages. The elevation will be selected in order to ensure gravity flow to consumers
in emergency and will allow the safe equipment shut-down.
Corrosion inhibiter will be injected into the circuit in order to protect, and the water tank will have a blanketing with
nitrogen.

OPERATING DESCRIPTION

Temperature gauges, recorders and alarms will be installed upstream and downstream the water/water heat
exchangers and the oil cooling heat exchangers.
Upstream and downstream the oil coolers will be installed motorized valves with positions indications in control
room.

GAS TURBINE COOLING

The cooling water circuit will cool the oil circuit of the gas turbine.
This is a closed cooling circuit with demineralized water. The heat of this circuit is dissipated to the air via air
cooler. Each gas turbine will have a heat exchanger. Air coolers will be forced air using fans. One air cooler module
is provided as spare.
This system is not depended on cooling water, so it will allow the gas turbine operation without the sea cooling
water circulation pumps.
