METHODOLOGY OF INSTALLATION

EQUIPMENT, MATERIAL & PROCEDURE

1. Introduction
The following statement described brief details of equipment, installation material and
methods of installation involved in the project. Comprehensive details of the equipment and
material used in the installation process are given in the respective technical literature
enclosed.
2. Main Distribution
This consists of 10 separate feeders through approved energy meters & through separate earth
fault, short circuit & over current protection to the individual Main DBS in each unit. This
scope start from the energy (KWH) meter & providing power to MDB is out of this scope but
in this MDB provision has provided to connect the main feeder cable to connect to the MDB
through Main MCCB
3. Low Voltage Distribution
The installation has 415V/250V low voltage distribution system of TT configuration. This
system provides power connection to various isolated units within the complex by cables
with unarmored multi-core cables. Description of main components and installation are given
below.
3.1 Main Distribution Boards (MDBs)
MDBs are floor-mounted metal switch boards operated at 415V/250V, but rated to withstand
voltage up to 600V and worst short-circuit condition with the following basic features.
3.1.1 Enclosure
A. Type tested enclosure cubical system from Elsteel Sri Lanka conforming IFG
439-1/BS 5486-1.
Plinth
2mm thick C - channel Base
Colours
Off White, Gray, Red (on request)
Paint & Coating
Powder coated epoxy paint.
3.1.2 Fabrication
Assembling of MDBs are carried out at the fully equipped workshop in Sri Lanka keeping
Following test there will be a complete visual and functional test of the panel under the
supervision of a senior engineer. All components used in the fabrication are only from
reputed international sources.
3.1.3 Busbars & Internal Power Distribution
Bus bars and jumpers are made of 99.99% pure copper (Laboratory test can be provide) and
has sectional area 2A/Sqmm mm to meet relevant capacity with protective Tin coating, epoxy
based or unsaturated polyester resin based compound insulators support them. Insulators meet
Japanese standard JIS C3801 and JIS C3851.

3.1.4 Switchgear
LV switchgear offered in the proposal are from Siemens. Main MCCB has a short-circuit
capacity of 36 KA to meet worst symmetrical fault level. They are provided with tripping
relays to work with respective protective relays, as proposed in the design.
3.1.5 Protection & Auxiliary Power Cabling
Control Wiring is carried with not less than 1.5mm2, 600V flexible cables. All connections
made to the bus bars are through cartridge fuses of not more than 2Amps rated and with
10kA breaking capacity. Protective relays, analogue / digital meters and indicators are wired
with the same cable type. MDB is provided with incoming Voltage and current measuring
systems and outgoing current measurement where required.
3.1.6 Earthing
Main Building Earth provided using copper bonded earth and rods to provide earth resistance
less than 5 ohms. Protective systems use such local earth. All final earth points are provided
with a manhole for future checking.
3.2.1 Cable Description.
The offered LV cables are 4 or 1-Core Copper / XLPE / PVC sheathed type and the sizes are
as required in the BOQ. Other specifications of the cables are included in the respective
technical specifications sheets.
3.2.3 Internal Cable Installation
Internal cable management system uses steel pre fabricated powder corted cable ladder and
trunking systems according to the approved designs. Vertical ladders and trunking uses
suitable clamps to carry load of the cables as per the final approved shop drawing.
3.2.4 Testing and Commissioning
Insulation test at 1000V will be carried out for each section of cables prior to energizing and
test results will be tabulated to be submitted with the handing over documentation. All
protective devices will also be tested with power injection to verify their functionality.
3.3 Sub-Main Distribution Boards (SMDBs)
Constructionally same as MDBs except that they are smaller in size and floor-mounted or
wall-mounted to suit the application.
3.3.1 Enclosure
Same as that of MDBs, as stated in Section 3.1.1 above.
3.3.2 Fabrication
Fabrication will be similar to that of MDBs at the same fabrication facility.
3.3.3 Busbars & Internal Power Distribution
Busbars are also same as that of MDBs of with cable jumpers for small Distribution Boards
feeders to match outgoing breaker termination.

3.3.4 Switchgear
LV switchgear offered in the proposal are from Siemens. Main MCCB has a short-circuit
capacity to meet worst symmetrical fault level. The are provided with tripping relays to work
with respective protective relays, as proposed in the design.
3.3.5 Protection & Auxiliary Power Cabling
Same as that of MDB, as described in Section 3.1.5, except that phase-indicators are provided
for small local distribution boards.
3.3.6 Earthing
Earthing at a particular location relies on that is provided from the MDB through protective
conductor of the feeder (as per IET Regulations). Additional improvements are required at
the and should be provided in-situ, if the feeder is very long so that earth loop resistance is
excessive to operate earth leakage protection and/or surge protection is installed at the local
SDB.
3.4. Sub-Main Cabling & Final Sub-circuits
The final sub circuits of lamp point will be wired by 1.5 sqmm PVC/Cu through securely laid
concealed conduting system through glanded switch box up to lamp point. The Power point
will be wired by 2.5sqmm PVC/Cu cable through securely laid concealed conduting system
through glanded Socket outlet box.
3.4.1 Cable Description.
Multi-core cables have the same technical specifications of the main cables described above
and single core cables used for final sub-circuits meet BS 6004 and BS 6346 standards and
are manufactured by ACL.
