Another issue when I try to scry is that I'm so accustomed to empty my mind and
not allow any thought to come during meditations, that I think I unconsciously c
reate a fence when I scry which block images that could come.
Standard for an apprentice ?

Standard for almost everyone. Sure there are people who are naturally inclined t
o psychic awareness and can meditate and empty their mind with ease, but for the
vast majority of people this is an issue. Only practice will help you overcome
that. You may also want to look up tutorials online. While I think the ceremonia
l occult community will agree that Arab scrying methods are the best, here is a
good book in English that can help you:
http://www.amazon.com/Scrying-For-Beginn...+beginners
It's written by Donald Tyson. While I don't support the fact that he gives in to
the Lovecraftian mythos so much he is a good writer and a veritable magician.

No no, it's the contrary for me. I have no trouble mind blanking but because I'm
used to it I think I tend to "block" images when I scry (the habit of not allow
ing any thought comin' when I meditate).
But thanks a lot for the book, I'm gonna buy it cause scrying is indeed a main c
omponent of Magickal tool !

I'll keep my virtual diary here updated as soon as I can scry.
Speaking of which, I'm gonna make a new attempt right now.
One amazon comment under another scrying book seems to do a nice synthesis of th
e process :
"
Work with dim lighting and put it either on a table, on your lap, on a pillow on
your lap, experiment, and stare into the dark depths of the black mirror. Don't
get crazy but restrain your blinking reflex. Let your eyes go slightly out of f
ocus. Even if they slightly cross that would be perfectly ok.
Eventually, as your eyes get a little tired, you may see kind of a foggy film se
em to form over the glass (sometimes they call this a fog or a mist). Let it. Yo
u may begin to see odd little things. "Is it my imagination?" you ask. Yes, of c
ourse, that's how this gets started. If you see something and your mind starts t
rying to make something of it, LET IT. You know, you may think, "wow, with a lit
tle imagination that could almost be a house with a light on the back porch."
Let it be that house. Get into it.
You may see what looks like a weird texturing come over the blackness. That's al
l part of it. Whatever happens is part of it.
Stay with it and relax, get loose. don't be rigid. Don't try to strangle it. Thi
s isn't meditation, it's looser and more fun than that. It's closer to coloring
with your crayons than to doing some kind of concentration practice.
Eventually you'll see things. Or parts of things. Or what you think MIGHT be thi
ngs. That's all part of it. Suddenly in one corner of it you may see clouds with
a break in the clouds and beyond that blue sky. Or something that looks like ei
ther a lathe or a spinning top, you're not sure which. Or a ship being tossed th
rough choppy high waves as it tries to plough forward.
these are all things I've seen. You can see stuff, too. Sometimes the images com
e and go so fast you can't remember most of them. If you keep track in a journal
you may find they mean things. The ship in choppy seas I figured out meant stor
my weather within the next few days.
Just have a little faith in your inborn ability and keep on trying and when you
get it going keep on practicing. It's a little like learning the piano. Most peo
ple can learn to play some. If you really are interested this is do-able.
And you can make your own mirror. Or buy one if you want. Both are good. You hav
e options.
Best of luck whatever you do."

Scrying is an awesome art if you can master it. Quick tip if you are low on fund
s or not close to you're regular scrying tools. A bowl of water with some black
ink added is perfect for the process. It's what my mother taught me on when I wa
s a kid, and is just as good as a fancy ball or mirror.
You would know in words what you have known in thought.
You would touch with your fingers the naked body of your dreams.

You're good at it ?
If yes :
- how long did you train before being able to scry ?
- how long do you scry each time you do ?
- what do you use this ability for ?

Ah yes, an age old technique for dark mirror substitution.

I was taught when I was about 8, and still being a child at the time, it was eas
ier for me to pick up. It's harder to start when you are an adult, but from peop
le I've helped out with in the past I'd say about a month, give or take dependin
g on the individual obviously.
The length of time can vary greatly, but I find my sense of time whilst scrying
is warped, but usually anything between twenty mins and an hour.
I use this ability for two main things; firstly, I find it useful to contact cer
tain entity's that I find it hard to in other, more direct ways. Secondly I use
it when I am in need of advice on what path to take in life, it's a good way of
seeing things in a way you normally wouldn't be able too.
Also, if you are finding it difficult to get in the mindset, sometimes a bit of
ritual will help beforehand, I tend to have a cleansing bath, light some incense
, chant a little, just to get me in the right frame of mind. You also might find
the tea recipe I put in the Herbology section useful for clearing your thoughts
and getting in the right headspace. Good luck!

How are you sure you're not making it up with your mind ?
