Introduction:
(3-5 paragraphs, not more than 1 page)
Being in college is definitely one of the most enjoyable, yet arduous
experiences in a life of a student. There are times that the students need to go to
school early in the morning, sleep-deprived, dealing with the courses they need to
pass. In order to pass their courses, of course, the need to be guided by books is
existent. These books contain mostly, if not, some of the things they need to know
and lessons they need to acquire for them to finally hand to their parents the
diploma they have been working on to get.
Books are considered essential to every student, no matter what educational
level the students are in. However, students taking up a course in college may have
larger load of units to accomplish and bigger books with more texts to be read. For
some students, it is a burden to bring alongside them their books in school because
of its size and the number of books that needed to be carried can be a disturbance.
For this reason, with the advancing technology, the idea of electronic books or
eBooks arose.
There had been lots of debates about the significances of the use of eBooks
and traditional books. E-book has become an essential form of publication because
of the less disturbances it may have been giving to the users. However, some
devoutly prefer traditional books over electronic books. The main reasons why the
students, especially the chosen respondents of the researchers, the students of the
University of Santo Tomas, prefer the chosen form of publication over the other is
yet to be distinguished and studied.

Significance of the Study:

(2-3 paragraphs)
Electronic books or eBooks, book publication consisting of texts, images, or
both, that can be viewed using electrical devices were introduced in 2000s. These
are advantageous as they only require to be downloaded, and the electronic device
allows you to save as many as you want depending on its storage capacity.
Oftentimes, some E-books can also be purchased for free. Many schools are opting
E-books over books and encourage students to use them for convenience.
Even with all these advantages, many people still insist on using traditional
books despite the intensity of disturbance they give. In this study, the researchers
would like to determine the reasons why the respondents, the students of the
University of Santo Tomas, prefer the chosen form of publication over the other, the
pros and cons of the two materials, and the effect of the material to the reading
comprehension of the reader. This study will be significant as it may be able to
determine the efficacy of the use of E-books and traditional books.

Major Problem: The deciding factors for students who would choose between
eBooks and printed books are to be distinguished.
Sub-Problems: The disadvantageous effect of using eBooks and printed books are
to be assessed. The effect of personal reference and other elements to choosing
between E-books and printed books are to be known.

Objectives of the Study:

General: To be able to determine whether UST students prefer to read from
the traditional books or eBooks when reading for school.

Specific: To find out the reasons why students prefer to read printed books or
e-books; To know the advantages and disadvantages of reading printed books and
eBooks.

Research Method /Procedure (flowchart)

Define Problem: What is the preferred

study materials of students in
reading/reviewing, online textbooks
(eBooks) or Physical books (hardcopy)?

Research Questions:
-What is the preference of students to use during
exams or during reviewing, eBooks or printed copies of
books?
-What is the efficacy of e-books and printed books to
students who use them?
-Why do some students prefer eBooks?
-Why do some students prefer printed copies?
