FINALTERM SYLLABUS

SESSION 2013-2014
GRADE 3

ENGLISH:
Reading Skill: Comprehension (unseen passage): Should be able to read unfamiliar
texts with understanding the meaning of lexical items and answer questions based on it(
containing 20 marks). The marks obtained from Reading assessment will be added with
internal assessment.
Internal assessment will be based on class work, homework and projects and will
add up to 20%.
The Examination will be out of 80 marks which will include a Reading Comprehension
Passage (unseen10 marks) with questions (Language usage, questions) and
Composition.
Writing Skill: To write complete sentences in paragraph form on imaginative topics.
Factual writing: To write a composition on a topic where the students have to describe
a given topic...
Editing Skill: To be able to identify the mistakes in the given sentences and rewrite the
sentences after correcting them.(These sentences can carry different sorts of errors
such as adverbs of manners,,
Conjunctions (joining words), verbs according to what has been taught
In the class.

Punctuation: To be able to punctuate unpunctuated lines by putting appropriate


punctuation marks..
Vocabulary: To be able to solve word power questions / quizzes such as synonyms,
antonyms, homophones.
Spellings: To be able to write the correct spellings of the frequently used words.
Idioms: To be able to use the given idioms to frame meaningful sentences.
Similes: To be able to use the given similes to frame meaningful sentences.
Objectives:
Writing grammatically correct sentences.
Using correct spellings.
Comprehension, explanation and answering questions from text.
Building vocabulary.

Literature: Questions will be set on: Analyzing the characters, analyzing the plot, the
theme, registering personal interpretation of the characters, the plot, the theme,
explaining in Reference to the context.
Book: Selective stories and poetry (handouts would be provided by the teacher)
