Sample Answer 1:
The supplied pie charts depict the shifts in annual expenditure by a certain UK school in three different times,
981, 1991, and 2001.
In general, teachers salaries were the highest proportion of annual spending percentage. In contrast,
insurance was consistent as the lowest percentage of annual school spending over the times observed.
Looking at the details, in 1981 teachers salaries accounted nearly a half, 40% of total school costs and
increased significantly in 1991 which accounted exactly a half, 50% and remained the highest spending in 2001
as well, 45%. Meanwhile, other workers salaries, references, and furniture and tool fluctuated and amassed
big percentage of school disbursement all together, it was about 40% in average.
On the other hand, insurance was the lowest percentage of total school spending over all observed years. It
was only 2% of total spending in 1981 and remained the tiniest fraction subsequently in 1991 and 2001, 3%
and 8% respectively.

Sample Answer 2:
The given pie charts illustrate a UK school's annual spending and shows the changes over two decades.

As is seen in the provided pie charts, the school spent an increasing percentage of money on teachers'
salaries, with maximum of 50% being spent in 1991, after which it was reduced by 5% in 2001. Also, this
remained the area, where the highest percentage of money was spent, in the given three years. Expenditure on
other workers' salaries decreased significantly over the years with 28%, 22% and 15% in 1981, 1991 and 2001
respectively.

Again, percentage spent on resources like books also decreased after a slight increase of 5% in 1991.
Investment on furniture and equipment saw a substantial decline from 15% to 5% in the first 10 years, before
increasing again up to 23% in 2001. Finally, the least percentage of annual spending was on insurance over
the two decades, with a small hike from 2% in 1981 to 8% in 2001.

The pie chart below shows the main reasons why

agricultural land becomes less productive. The table
shows how these causes affected three regions of the
world during the 1990s.
Summarize the in formation by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons
where relevant.
You should write at least 150 words.

Sample Answer 1:
The pie chart indicates the factors that negatively affect the productivity of agricultural lands worldwide while
the table data illustrates the percentage of land degradation in three main regions due to those factors
mentioned.

From the pie chart it can be seen that the major factor that causes the worldwide land degradation is overgrazing. 35% of agricultural lands worldwide become less productive due to a single factor - over-grazing.
Deforestation is accounted for 30% degradation of cultivable land while over-cultivation results 28% land
degradation. All other minor reasons are categorised as other and constituted 7% loss of land fertility.

The given table data shows the percentages of agricultural land degradation in three regions during the 1990s,
namely - North America, Europe, and Oceania. Oceania comprised many islands in the South Pacific area
including New Zealand and Australia. The analysis shows that highest percentage of land degradation, 23%,
occurred in Europe in 1990s. This is followed by Oceania and North America where these percentages were
13% and 5% respectively. The most striking feature was that over-cultivation had zero impact in Oceania as it
was mostly affected by over-grazing.

Sample Answer 2:
The given picture contains two charts, one pie chart and another table chart. As is observed from pie chart,
main reason of less productivity is over grazing of animals which constitutes 35%. Another big reason of land
degradation is deforestation which holds 30% of total. Over cultivation also affects production of land which
constitutes 28% while other reasons of land degradation are remaining 7%. As a result the biggest reason of
land degradation is over gazing of animals in agricultural land.

According to the given table we will analyse what are main causes of less production of land in different
regions and how they affects the lands production. As it can be seen clearly, that Europe is badly degraded by
23%. Europe is degraded by deforestation by 9.8% while 7.7% is affected due to over cultivation and finally
5.5% degraded by over grazing. Europe is affected badly by 23% while North America holds 5% and Oceania
by 13%.

In conclusion, Europe is badly affected by these factors in all of the regions.

The pie charts below show units of electricity production

by fuel source Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where
relevant.
You should write at least 150 words.

Sample Answer 1:
The given pie charts show data on the electricity production from fuel sources in Australia and in France in
1980 and 2000. As is observed from the pie charts, coal was the main source for electricity production in
Australia while France used the Nuclear Power more in recent years to produce their electricity demand.

According the given data, Australia produced 100 units of electricity in 1980 and 170 units in 2000 while the
production in France was 90 units and doubled in the year 2000.
In Australia coal was the main source of electricity production and half of the total electricity produced came
from coal in 1980. Natural gas and hydro power contributed of producing 20 units of electricity while remaining
10 units was produced from oil. The dependency on coal increased in 2000 for electricity production while oil
and natural gases were very minimally used for electricity production. Nuclear power was not used in Australia
as source for producing electricity.

On the contrary, In France natural gas and coal together produced half of the electricity in 1980. The use of
nuclear power increased significantly in France in 2000 amounting 126 units in this year compared to the 15
units 20 years back.
Sample Answer 2:
The pie charts illustrate the total production of electricity measured in unit and divided by different sources of
fuel in Australia and France in the year 1980 and 2000.
Overall, it is clearly shown that major fuel sources used in electricity production was different in Australia and
France.
First of all, there was considerably more units of electricity produced in Australia in 2000 (170 units) than 1980
(100 units). Majority of electricity produced in Australia for both years was from the coal but there was higher
dependency of coal in the production of electricity in 2000 than 1980 (130 out of 170 and 50% respectively).
There was an increase of 16 units of electricity produced by hydro power from 1989 to 2008 whereas the other
sources like natural gas and oil contributed less to the electricity production in 2000 than in 1980.
Turning to the fuel sources in France, it is apparent that electricity production doubled in 2000 than in 1980,
which was 180 for the former and 90 for the latter. The most striking feature is that there was only 15 out of 90
units of electricity produced by nuclear power in 1980. However, it became the main fuel source of electricity
production in France in 2000, which was 70%. Not forgetting to mention that the use of other fuel sources in the
electricity production became less in 2000 than in 1980.

The graph below shows the demand for electricity in

England during typical days in winter and summer. The
pie chart shows how electricity is used in an average
English home.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where
relevant.

You should write at least 150 words.

Sample Answer 1:
The given graphs show the electricity demand in England in a typical day of winter and summer and also show
how people used this electricity. According to the first line graph, we can see that, the electricity demand in
winter is much higher than the demand in summer in England.
In a typical day the electricity demand in winter season is around 35000 units and it is around 18000 units in
summer season. Again the demand of the electricity varies on several hours of the day and the demand from
6:00 to 9:00 am is lesser than the demand in other hours of the day. During the winter the demand is highest
from 21:00 to 23:00 and during summer the demand is highest from 13:00 to 14:00 hours.

Based on the pie chart we can infer that, the room heating and water heating is the main purpose people
consume the electricity in England. The demand for washing machine, kettle and ovens consumes around 18%
of total electricity consumed and two other categories consume 15% electricity each. These two other
categories which consume 30% of total electricity include light, TV, Radio, vacuum cleaner, food mixer and
other electric told and devices.
Model Answer 2:
The presented graph illustrates the electricity requisition in England during two different seasons, winter and
summer. Meanwhile, the pie chart demonstrates how the electricity is utilized daily and to what quantity.

In general, both in winter and summer, the electricity demand raises up from around 9:00 am to about 23:00 pm
and the electricity in mainly spent for heating room and water.
Looking at the detail, the electricity demand in summer is reckoned between 10,000 20,000 units. It goes to
around 12,000 before 9 am and slightly increases to around 20,000 at 14 pm and relatively fluctuates until the
rest of the day. However, in winter, the electricity requisition sets about 35,000 units at 00 am and gradually
spikes before it actually rises at 9 am and keeps the level swells until around 45,000 units at 23 pm.
Meanwhile, due to utilization and quantity, heating room and water are true as the vast majority, 52%, of
electricity using. This high proportion is related to the high electricity demand for these two appliances during
winter. Whereas other kitchen and electronic devices, vacuum cleaners, food mixers and electronic tools
amass lower proportion, 48%, than heating rooms and water.

The charts below show the result of a survey of adult

education. The first chart shows the reason why adults
decide to study. The pie chart shows how people think
the costs of adult education should be shared.
Write a report for a university lecturer, describing the information shown below.
You should write at least 150 words.

Sample Answer 1:
The figures illustrate the result of an opinion survey about the reason why adult people choose to study and
how tuition costs should be funded. It is clear that based on the survey result, the two main reasons why adults

have continued their study are due to they are interested with the subject and to obtain the degree. It is also
noticed that the survey also shown that most of the education cost should be funded by individuals themselves.
It can be seen that the two main purposes why adult continue their study are because they interested with the
program and to obtain the qualification, as these two reasons result reached 40% and 38% respectively.
Meanwhile, the percentages of the survey for reasons of helpful for their current job, improving prospect and
promotion, and that they like studying were in the range between 22% and 20%. As for figures of those who
study for the purpose of changing jobs and to meet new people, they were below 15% each.
As for the survey result of the education cost, it is obvious that 40% of the cost should become the burden of
the respective person themselves. Then 35% should be provided by the employer and 25% from the taxpayer.
[ Written by - Darwin Lasmana ]
Sample Answer 2:
The given data shows why the grownup people continue their study and their thinking how the coursed of this
adult study should be shared.

According to the first bar graph, around 40% adults decide to study because of their interest in study which is
the most influential reason for adult study. Gaining qualification is another important reason that influences
more than 35% adult to continue their studies. Job related reasons contribute to around 20% adult to decide to
study while meeting people inspire around 10% people to study.

According to the pie chart, the people who have decided to do the further education think that 40% of this cost
should be provided by the individuals who are getting enrolled in the study while 35% cost should be shared by
the employers since they are deciding to study to do better in their job position. The remaining 25% cost should
be shared by the taxpayers according to these people.

In summary, interest in subjects, improving qualification, better job position and improving communication with
people are the reasons most adults decide to study and according to them the cost of this study should be
shared by individuals, employers and tax payers.

Write a report to a university lecturer describing the data.

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer 1:
The pie charts illustrate the changes in household spending in the UK between 1971 and 2001. It is clear that
the cost of petrol made up the largest proportion of the household spending in 1971 while expenditure on cars
was the greatest share of the household spending in 2001.

Firstly, British citizens spent more than a third of their money on petrol and almost a third on furniture followed
by money spent in restaurants, which was precisely a quarter. The smallest proportion of expenditures was the
cost on computers with only seven percent in 1971.

Secondly, after 30 years in 2001, British citizens spent significantly less money on petrol, furniture and
restaurants- 8%, 8%, 14% respectively. In comparison to 1971, they spent nearly double on computers. The
greatest proportion of household spending was on cars with more than 40%. The proportion of expenditure on
foods were 14% and the for books it was vanishingly small, only one percent in 2001.

The table below shows CO2 emissions for different forms

of transport in the European Union. The Pie Chart shows
the percentage of European Union funds being spent on
different forms of transport.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information in the graph below.
You should write at least 150 words.

Sample Answer 1:
The given graphs provide information on the amount of Carbon dioxide emission per person from different
vehicles in the European Union and also show the expenditures on different modes of transportations. As is
observed from the given illustration, the highest amount of CO 2 per person is emitted by the Air transports and
the European Union spends the highest percentage of funds for the road transportation system.

According to the bar graph, a single passenger of a personal car omits around 130 gm of CO 2 per kilometer
while a passenger in a bus contributes to 65 gm of emission per kilometer. Coaches, maritime and rail

passengers emit the lowest amount of CO2which is about 50 grams per passenger in a kilometer. Finally, a
single passenger of an airplane contributes to 370 km of CO 2per kilo which is the highest amount of
CO2 emission among the given transportations.

Based on the pie chart, the European Union spent the highest amount (52%) on the road transportation system
while spent only 1% or 2% on ports, waterway airport intermodal and other transport systems. They spent 31%
on the rail system and 10% on the public transportation system. This indicates the European Union spent the
majority of the budget on public transportations.

In summary, Airplanes and personal car using passengers per person cause more CO 2 emission than other
modes of public transportations and the European Union spends more on road and railways than other modes

average family spent on restaurant meals in different
years. The graph shows the number of meals eaten in
fast food restaurants and sit-down restaurants.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information in the graph below.
You should write at least 150 words.

Sample Answer 1:
Given are two kinds of figure concerning how much the average family expended on food in four years from
1970 to 2000. The first chart provides information about the spent on restaurant meals (in percentage), while
the second one illustrates how many fast food meals and sit-down restaurant meals were in each year.
The most significant point in the pie charts is that between 1970 and 2000 there was a considerable growth
from one-fifths in the first year of the period to exactly a half in 2000. That is a rise of forty percent in a thirtyyear period.
The most striking feature to comment on in the line chart is that even though both numbers of fast food meals
and sit-down meals started at the same point, a mere twenty meals, however, had two different endings. In
1980, the number of sit-down suppers rose respectively to approximately thirty-five, while the number of quickly
served meals experienced a smaller increase. However, in twenty years after that, the proportion quickly
reached a peak at relatively ninety, considerably forty meals more than that of sit-down restaurant meals.
It is interesting to note that through more than thirty years, having meals in a restaurant whether in fast food or
sit-down one has become very popular.

Sample Answer 2:
The given illustration compares the amounts spent on restaurant foods and on home cooking foods in four
different years and gives data on the number of meals eaten in two different restaurant types.

As is presented in the pie chart, initially in 1970, 90% of total food budget was spent on home-made foods
while only 10% was spent on restaurant foods. The amount spent on restaurant meals increased to 15% in
1980 while it reached to 35% in 1990. Finally, in 200, an average family spent half of the total budget in
restaurant meals and that shows a rapid increase on the peoples habit of having meals in restaurants.

In the line graph, we can observe that in 1970, the fast foods and sit-down restaurant meals were taken 20
thousand times each and over time these numbers kept increasing. Finally, in 2000, more than 90 thousand
fast food meals were eaten while the sit-down restaurant meals were eaten 50 thousand times a year. This
indicates the changes of peoples habit of eating out and the popularity of restaurant foods over the homemade foods.

In summary, over the 30 years time people adopted the habit of eating out at restaurant and sit-down
restaurant gained more popularity over the fast food shops.

The pie chart below shows information on the highest

level of education of women in Someland in 1945 and
1995.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information in the two graphs below.
You should write at least 150 words.
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

Sample Answer :
The given pie charts compare the highest education level among women in Someland in 50 years duration. As
is observed from the given data, the women made a remarkable progress in education over the 50 years
period in Someland.
Initially, in 1945, more than one-third women in Someland did not have any schooling experience while another
one-third could manage education till third grade only. Less than 1% women in this year managed to get their
graduation or post-graduation degree. This reflects the poor education level among the female of Someland in

1945.
After 50 years, the education level among women in Someland remarkably improved and more than 50%
women finished their first degree while 20% of them completed their post graduation. Remaining women either
finished their 12th-grade education or studied till 9th grade. No women were left unattended to school and
thats a remarkable progress for women in education in Someland.
In conclusion, education level among women improved significantly over the 50 years period in Someland.

The given pie charts compare the expenses in 7 different

categories in 1966 and 1996 by American Citizens.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

You should write at least 150 words.

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

Sample Answer 1:
The pie charts compare the expenditure of US residents in two different years for seven categories namely
food, cars, petrol, restaurants, furniture, computers and books.

It is clear that the largest proportion of American citizens spending went on foods and cars. On the other hand,
computers and books have the lowest percentage in the chart in 1966 and 1996 respectively. In 1966, 23% of
American citizens expenditure went on cars. The percentage rose to nearly double at 45% in 1996.The
proportion of spending on food fell from 44% in 1966 to only 14% in 1996.

Expenditure on computers stood at only 1% in 1966 but reached 10% in 1996. The percentage of American
citizens spending on restaurants had doubled from 7% in 1966 to 14% in 1996. Spending on books was
highest in 1966, at 6%. By contrast, there was no significant change in the proportions of petrol and furniture
over a period as a whole.
(Approximately 156 words | by - Safa Ahmed )
Sample Answer 2:
The pie charts show changes in American spending patterns between 1966 and 1996.

Food and cars made up the two biggest items of expenditure in both years. Together they comprised over half
of household spending. Food accounted for 44% of spending in 1966, but this dropped by two-third to 14% in
1996. However, the outlay on cars doubled, rising from 23% in 1966 to 45% in 1996. Other areas changed
significantly. Spending on eating out doubled, climbing from 7% to 14%. The proportion of salary spent on
computers increased dramatically, up from 1% in 1996 to 10% in 1996. However, as computer expenditure
rose, the percentage of outlay on books plunged from 6% to 1%. Some areas remained relatively unchanged.
Americans spent approximately the same amount of salary on petrol and furniture in both years.

In conclusion, increased amounts spent on cars, computers, and eating out were made up for by drops in
expenditure on food and books.

The chart and graph below give information about sales

and share prices for Coca-Cola.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.

You should write at least 150 words.

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

Model Answer 1:
The given graphical illustrations give data on sales volume of Coca-Cola in 2000 in unit cases and also show
the share price of this brand from 1996 to 2001. The data gives the break-up of the total consumption of CocaCola, amounting 17.1 billion unit cases, as percentages consumed in various parts of the world.

In 2000, the largest proportion of Coca-Cola, according to the pie chart, was consumed in North America
making 30.4 % of the total. The second largest consumption came from Latin America which was 25.7% of total
followed by 20.5 % in Europe, 16.4% in Asia and 7% in Africa and Middle-East respectively. It is evident that
the America was the major consumer of Coca-Cola in 2000.

The line graph represents the price per share of Coca-Cola from 1996 up to 2001. It is quite interesting to note
that the price per share was lowest in the beginning of 1996 staying just above 35. In the mid of 1996, it
showed a steep rise and touched the figure of 50 dollars per share, continuing the same price hike it reached
just below $ 70 in 1997. In the same year, a slight decrease in price could be observed which was quoted just
below $ 65. A sharp increase was observed thereafter where the price was maximum, $ 80. Afterwards, the
price tended to decline steeply until the beginning of year- 2000. In mid-2000, the price increased again and at
the start of year - 2001, Coca-Cola share was traded at the floor of stock exchange at $55.

Sample Answer 3:
The given pie chart and line graphs show the data on sales volume and share price of Coca-Cola. As is given
in the illustration, in the year 2000, Coca-Cola was sold most in America where it had more than 55% sales
volume. The share price of Coca-Cola was highest in 1998 and reached to around 55 in 2001 with some
fluctuation.

As is presented in the pie chart, in 2000, Coca-Cola had more than 55% sales in Latin and North America. In

Europe it had more than 20% sales volume, in Asia 16.45% and in Africa it had 7% sales volume. This
indicates that American continent has the largest market for Coca-Cola while this market is least in African
Continent.
Again, the share price of Coca-Cola was only $ 33 in 1996 and this price increased to $ 68 in 1997. The price
reached to the highest in 1998 when it was $ 80 per share. The price then started dropping and with some
fluctuations it reached it around $ 60 in 2001.

In summary, the American Continent was the largest market for Coca-Cola in 2000 and the average share
price of it is $60 though this price varies year to year.

These three pie charts illustrates the relation between population,

resourcesconsumption rate and personal expenditure of five factors,
including American states, European area, Asian countries, African
nations and other regions. In general, the US and Eurozone are the main
resources consumers of the world.
The total amount of Americas and Euros
resources consumption accounted for 60% of the world spending annual
while their population sized equally at 14% of the globe. On the other
hands, Asian countries, which have the largest proportion
of world population at 57%, shared the rest 40% of global resources with
other regions.
It is predictable that people mostly spent their money on basic demands
for living. The personal expenses on food scored the first place in this
group at 24%. Meanwhile, spending on transports was at 18% and
equaled to the sum of expenditures on clothes and housing. The other
purposes of spendingmoney costed humanity 40% of its income.

The pie chart shows the sales of Coca Cola based on different regions.
In general, the total sale in year 2000 was 17.1 billion bottles. The area
that consumed most was North America with 30.4 percent of the total
volume. Next, Latin America stayed at the second position. Asia and
Europe consumed 16.4 percent and 20.5 percent respectively. The
lowest consumers were Middle East and Africa areas at 7 percent. The
graph indicates the share price of Coca Cola between 1996 and 2001.
The share price rose sharply from 1996 to 1997 and reached nearly 70
percent. In 1996, it slightly reduced to around 55 percent. The figure
then went up again and peaked at 80 percent in 1998. There was a
gradual drop in the share price after that. It hit the lowest point which

was below 50 percent and then rose up again. From the middle of year
2000 to 2001, the share price kept reducing.

The pie chart introduces the main cause of worldwide land degradation
during the 1990s in the percentage scale, whereas the table shows
reasons of land degradation by three regions: North America, Europe
and Oceania.
Over-grazing was the main reason of worldwide degradation and it
reached 35 %. 30% and 28% of degradation was due to deforestation
and over-cultivation respectively, leaving 7% for other reasons. It can be
seen from the table, that Europe had the largest percentage of land
degradation, which was 23%. The lowest percentage of land degradation
was in North America and it reached only 5%. In Europe deforestation
was the main cause of land degradation (9.8%), while in North America
and Oceania over-cultivation (3.3%) and over-grazing (11.3%)
respectively. In addition, deforestation percentage in Europe was higher
than North Americas and Oceanias combined. In North America and
Europe over-cultivation numbers were quite large, while in Oceania there
was no land degraded by over-cultivation.
In conclusion, over-grazing was the main cause of worldwide
degradation in 1990s. Europe percentage of degradation was largest of
all three regions and all three regions had different predominant causes.

model answer:
The diagrams show data for a flu epidemic which hit a large country town in 1996. Figure 1 gives the
number of persons who died; Figure 2 shows the percentage breakdown of females who received a new
flu vaccine; and Figure 3 gives the number of cases of flu before and during the epidemic.
In Figure 1 it can be seen that the flu was responsible for the deaths of 2 females but no males in the
period from March to May. However, from June to August, there were 4 female deaths and 1 male death.
According to the pie chart in Figure 2, only those females most at risk were given the new flu vaccine;
28% did not take part in the trial. Of those females who took part, 35% were aged (over 65 years old);
24% were babies or children; and 13% were either hospitalised or receiving other medical attention.
From Figure 3 it is clear that the new vaccine had a positive effect on the number of new cases of flu
reported in females. There were just over 1000 cases reported in March, climbing rapidly to a peak of
3500 in June. Thereafter, the number of cases dropped slowly to about 2800 in August, before levelling
off at 2500 for the rest of the year. For males, the figures were lower but showed a similar trend
throughout the epidemic.

The graph below shows the demand for electricity in England during typical days in winter and
summer. The pie chart shows how electricity is used in an average English home.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons
where relevant.
You should write at least 150 words.

Model answer
The Demand for electricity in England during typical days in winter and summer is illustrated in the graph.
The use of electricity in an average English home is shown in the pie chart. From the graph it is generally
obvious that the demand is in its maximum around 2100 in winter times and in its minimum around 400
being almost constant between 1200 and 2100 in winter times. During summer times on the other hand
the demand reaches its top point around 1300 and the bottom point around 900 being almost constant
between 1550 and 2000.
In wither times the curve gradually increases to reach 40000 units of electricity by 3 oclock in the
morning. This is followed by gradual decline to its lowest limit of 30000 units at 9 oclock. A gradual rise is
obvious again to reach a stationary level between 3 oclock and 9 oclock of about 40000 units again.
Then there is a sharp rise in the next hour to reach its maximum before collapsing again to a lower level
by the end of the day.

In summer time the curve gradually decrease to reach its lower limit around 9 oclock of a bit more that
10000 units. A gradual increase is noticed to reach its top of 20000 after which a stationary phase is
obvious between 3 oclock and 10 oclock at night of about 15000 units.
The pie chart on the other hand shows that 52.5% of the electricity is used for heating rooms and water.
17.5% is consumed for ovens kettles and washing machines 15% is used in lighting TV and radio and
finally 15% is consumed in the sue of vacuum cleaners food mixtures and electric tools.

In IELTS Writing Task 1, when you must describe two figures, ask yourself the following:
1) What do both figures relate to?
2) What kind of relationship is evident? (a similarity, a difference, a cause and effect relationship or some
other type of relationship)
3) Which aspects of each figure should be highlighted?
4) Should I describe the figures in separate paragraphs, or should I compare different aspects of the
figures within a series of paragraph?

Model answer
The table shows the reason why people in Edmonton use their cars in the city and the pie chart explains
what type of transport people prefer to use most of the time.
Looking at the pie chart first, it is clear that the car is the most popular means of transport in this city. 45%
of the people say that they prefer to commute by car. The second most popular form of transport is the
LRT, while busses and taxis are the main means of transport for the rest of the people.
The table gives more detailed information about why people use their cars. Surprisingly, 55% of the
people need to commute to work by car. Cars are also used a lot for taking children to school or business
purposes. Only 15% of drivers are doing their shopping and, similarly, 15% need to travel by car for
leisure.
Overall, people in Edmonton make good use of alternative methods of transport but there is a heavy
dependence on cars for work.

The charts below show the results of a survey about what people of different age groups say
makes them most happy.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons
where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.

Model answer
There are several similarities between what younger and older people say makes them most happy.
However, there are several striking differences.
Firstly, let us look at the similarities. It is noticeable that for both younger and older people, the highest
percentage says that achievement at work brings them most happiness: 31% for the younger age group
and 32% for the older group. Doing hobbies is also very important for both groups: the second largest
percentage of both age groups mention doing hobbies as making them most happy.
Turning now to the differences, many younger people regard having a good appearance as extremely
important: 18% of them state this brings them most happiness. This is followed by 15% who state that
travel brings them happiness. Neither of these two factors is mentioned by older people. Instead, 20% of
older people report that having financial security is most important to their happiness and 14% say they
feel most happy when they are with their family.

The given illustration presents data on the result of a survey made in a large town on the flu vaccine. As is
presented in the graphs, more female got affected by the flu than men and female death rate from this flu was
more than their male counterpart.
As is presented in the first line graph, from February to September the number of people who were attached by
the flu increased and after that the rate become stable. More female got attached by the flue than men and in
the middle of the year this infection were spread among more than 3500 female and more than 2500 men. The
bar graph shows the death rate from the flu and it can be observed that female death case was much more
than the male death case. From June to august, 2 men died from the flu infection where 4 women died from the
same flu.

Finally, the pie chart presents data on the aftermath of the vaccination. It can be observed that, older women
and children were in more risk than other age groups of female.
