Jain eLibrary Projects

Jain eLibrary Website Project
To protect, preserve, and disseminate the ancient and contemporary Jain literature, the
Education Committee of Federation of JAINA, North America, and Jain Education
International have launched a Jain eLibrary project. Under this project the Jain literature is
converted electronically into eBooks (pdf files) and made available via the website to the
readers who are interested in Jain religion and its philosophy.
The Jain elibrary website is an online collection of Jain literature, Jain scriptures,
manuscripts, dictionary, encyclopedia, articles and magazines in English, Hindi, Gujarati and
other languages. It also comprises a vast collection of literature on Jainism and its principles,
such as Ahimsa, compassion and Anekantvada. It also provides Jain educational material
for Pathshala (Jain Sunday school). Catalogues of Jain manuscripts of various Jain libraries
add to the diversity of this collection.
The website literature represents all aspects of Jainism. While the readers discover the
richness and spirituality of our ancient Jain literature, it also helps the authors and publishers
to reach a new audience. Jain eLibrary project provides totally free access to its website and
it is a non-commercial website; therefore, the supporting organizations do not benefit
financially from the readers.

Jain eLibrary CD/DVD Project

After the successful establishment of Jain eLibrary website, we received many requests from
Jain monks and nuns of all sects to make the eLibrary literature available on CD/DVDs. This
way they can easily get the benefit of the vast collection of the Jain literature without carrying
a large number of books during their vihar (travelling on foot). With the help of CD/DVDs
they can easily get the prints form their Jain lay followers. Hence we have decided to
publish the Jain eLibrary on DVDs under the following guide lines.
The Jain literature should remain on the eLibrary website for atleast 6 months before
we publish it on DVD. We believe that six months is a long enough time to receive
any objection letter from the owners - authors or publishers - of the literature. Even if
we receive the letter after six months, we will remove it from the website and from the
future DVD publications.
In January 2010, we published DVD set 1 consist of 4 DVDs (DVD no 1 to 4). This set
contained about 2000 ancient and contemporary Jain literature books. DVD set 1 is
dedicated to Late Shrutsthavira Pujya Muniraj Shree Jambuvijayji Maharaj Saheb for his
great support to Jain eLibrary.
In January 2012, we published DVD set 2 consisting 4 DVDs (DVD no 5 to 8). This set
contains additional 1800 ancient and contemporary Jain literature books. DVD set 2 is
dedicated to Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra & Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri
Gyanmandir, Koba Ahmedabad.

Literature and Technical Supporters

The success of the eLibrary project is highly dependant upon the support and cooperation of
a large number of community leaders, scholars, dedicated volunteers and contributors. The
Jaina Education Committee and Jain Education International are fortunate to bring all such
people together for this project. Several Jain Acharyas provided blessings, inspiration and
critical support needed for this project

Critical Supporters
The project was launched when Digambar Acharya Shri Suvidhi Sagarji Maharaj provided
about 200,000 pages of scanned images (650 books) of ancient and contemporary Jain
literature in January 2007. The Scanned images were received from Dr Sagarmal Jain. This
critical event accelerated Pravin K Shahs efforts to see his dream - providing Jain literature
free to all who wanted to read it from anywhere in the world - come true. This has become
his life mission. There is no exaggeration in saying that without his passion & dedication this
website would not have been as successful as the numbers suggest (average 150 books
downloaded every day from 75 countries).
The backbone support for this project is provided by Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra &
Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir, Koba, Ahmedabad, India. The institution was
established by Acharya Shri Padmasagarji Maharaj. Panyas Shri Ajaysagarji Maharaj has

support in the development of a special scanning program. The institution has developed the
program for this work. The staff members enthusiastically support all aspects of this project.
