A three span continuous beam is fixed at one end and supported by three
simple supports. The order of the stiffness matrix for the beam is
a) 1 x 1
b) 2 x 2
c) 3 x 3
d) 4 x 4
A pratt truss of 36m span has 6 panels of 5m height. Determine the force in the
bottom chord of 4th panel due to a u.d.l. of 25 kN/m over the entire span.

13 A suspension cable of span 200m, central dip 20m carries a u.d.l. of 25 kN/m
over the entire span. If the permissible tensile stress is 100 MPa, find the cross
sectional area required and length of the cable. When the cable runs over
pulleys, determine the support reactions. The anchor cables make an angle of
45 with the piers

14 A three hinged parabolic arch of span 20m, central rise 4m is loaded with a
u.d.l. of 20 kN/m on the left 8m length. Determine the B.M., normal thrust and
radial shear at 4m from the left end.

15 A two hinged semicircular arch of 30m span is loaded with 80 kN and 120 kN at
the points where the radius vectors make inclinations of 45 and 90 with the
horizontal. Determine the B.M., normal thrust and radial shear at 7.5m from the
left end.
