III/ REFLECTION
1. Theres more than enough material in my coursebook. I dont have time to use
supplementary material.
I disagree with this comment.
I think that if teacher think the material in their coursebook can covers the aim and
learners' need, they don't have to use supplementary materials. But mostly, the
cousebook is not perfect. It's better to add or change something in the coursebook by
using supplementary materials. For example the reading component of an institutional
text may make use of multiple-choice questions rather than the kinds of
comprehension tasks found in a course book, so extra material to practice using
multiple-choice questions may be needed.
Teacher can provide suitable material for their learners need and interests. By doing
this, the student will be more interested with the lesson and learn effectively.
2. My students get bored with the same book in every lesson, so I use
supplementary materials as often as I can.
I agree with this opinion. I think using supplementary materials help teachers and
students to develop the class in an interesting and motivating way to attract students
attention, giving them the opportunity to have a better understanding. If teacher use
supplementary materials effectively, learner will be attracted and have an interest in
the lesson. When students are interested in what they are learning, they pay closer
attention, process the information more efficiently.
3. Id like to use supplementary materials more often, but I find it difficult to fit
them into my syllabus.
I agree with this comment. I think that supplementary materials are a useful tool to
teaching but its difficult to use them effectively and fit them into the syllabus;
however, it doesnt mean that there is no way to fit the supplementary material into
the learning program. Supplementary materials can provide variety in lessons and
useful extra practice, but how to fit them in into the learners program, use them
suitably for the class and match them with the aims of the lesson depend very much
on the teachers ability. Teacher will choose and decide what supplementary materials
used to fit the aims of the lessons and the syllabus. The inexperienced teacher need to
learn and refer their colleagues to choose suitable supplementary materials. Through
the long time teaching, every teacher will have experience to fit them into the syllabus
effectively and suitably.
