GUIDELINES FOR CHESS TOURNAMENT
1. The tournament is composed of two divisions: Mens Division and
Womens Division.
2. The Mens Division is composed of Board 1 and Board 2 and the Womens
Division is composed of Board 1 and Board 2 as well.
3. The Chairman for the Chess Tournament will be automatically become the
referee of the tournament. He can also designate people who will assist
him in the game.
4. There must be a scoreboard for the entire tournament indicating the
teams, their winning and losing streaks.
5. Each
team
must
have
four
representatives
from
different
colleges/departments: Two representatives for Mens Division and Two
representatives for Womens Division.
6. The representatives must be a bonafide student of Dr. Aurelio Mendoza
Memorial Colleges and a bonafide student of the Team he/she is
representing.
7. Single elimination is applied in the tournament. Winners will go against
winners and losers will go against losers.
8. There is no time limit for each game. If the game has not yet finished yet,
the following pieces counting will be applied:
Pawn 1 Knight 3 Bishop 3 Rook 5 Queen 9
9. Time clock and stopwatch will be used for time-keeping as an alternative
for the chess clock.
10.
Touch move rule will be applied. The moment the player touched his
playing piece, that playing piece must be moved unless if it is not
applicable as determined by the referee.

The players are not allowed to leave the playing area unless permitted
by the referee.
12.
If the game is declared DRAW, the players must have a rematch with a
20 minute time limit and one minute limit for each move. The pieces
counting will be applied if the game has not yet finished.
13.
Players who will be late 15 minutes after the game schedule time will
be automatically disqualified. Players who are present on the scheduled
time will be declared WINNER BY DEFAULT in the absence of his/her
opponent.
14.
Winners will be declared by the referee depending on the scoreboard.
The winners are as follows: Champion, 2nd Placer, 3rd Placer and 4th Placer.
15.
THE PLAYERS MAY BRING THEIR OWN CHESSBOARD BUT IT IS NOT
REQUIRED.
16.
THESE GUIDELINES MAY CHANGE BEFORE AND DURING THE GAME
DEPENDING ON THE PREROGATIVE OF THE CHESS TOURNAMENT
CHAIRMAN/ REFEREE.

Dear Maam,
The AMMC with the cooperation of the different colleges/ departments
will be conducting the Intramural Sports 2016 from September 21-23, 2016 with
the theme, Sustaining AMMCS Dream as the Avenue of Healthy Sportmanship.
In line with this, we would like to request from your good office to
allow us to use the Library as venue for the Chess Tournament from September 21
until September 23, 9:00AM-12:00PM and 1:30PM-4:30PM.
Rest assured that all Players and Game Officials will abide with the
Library Rules and Regulations implemented in your area.
