Carcassonne By Order of the King

A Carcassonne Central expansion by JPutt927

As Carcassonne continues to grow, orders have begun to be issued by the

King. Do as he suggests, and reap the benefits... Ignore his decree, and suffer
the consequences.

EXTRA PIECES
98 kings order cards - (51 regular, 47 expansion)

Preparation
Shuffle together all of the playing cards. Make sure to only include the cards pertaining to the expansions in which you are
playing with. There are 51 cards for the regular game of Carcassonne. There are 5 cards for each of the additional major
expansions, including Inns & Cathedrals, Traders & Builders, The Princess & the Dragon, Abbey & Mayor, The Tower, Count, King, and
Cult, and the Catapult. There are 2 additional cards used for the siege expansion. Expansion cards contain a watermark logo
depicting which particular expansion they belong to, along with a border matching the colour of its box.

Receiving the Kings Orders

Before beginning the game, place the shuffled pile of Kings Order cards near the playing area. Each player should randomly
draw 3 of these cards. After looking at their cards, players may choose to keep all 3 of these cards, or may choose to keep
only 2. In this event, a player may choose which card they would like to remove from their hand. All removed cards should
be placed on the bottom of the remaining Kings Order card pile.

Fulfilling the Kings Order

The Kings Order is displayed on the card. In order to fulfill the Kings Order, a player must do exactly as the card tells them
to do. Upon completing a cards instructions, a player must immediately show their card and receive the amount of points
shown on the card. Players should place all their completed cards face up and in front of them for the rest of the game.
It is very important to note that the pictures on each card are only an example of what needs to be done to fulfill the Kings
Orders. A players feature does not need to match the picture shown, as long as it meets the cards requirements.

In the example on the left, the Kings Order will be fulfilled when the player holding the card places a tile which completes
a city consisting of exactly 5 tiles. As the card does not specify, it does not matter if that player has deployed a follower to
that city or not, just as long as they complete it. As soon as this order is completed, the card should be shown to all players,
and the player who completed it should receive 6 points (as displayed on the card).

Carcassonne By Order of the King

A player may NOT fulfill more than one Kings Order in their hand at one time. In the event that a placed tile causes more
than one of a players cards to be fulfilled, that player MUST choose which one they want to earn points for at that time. For
example, if a player is holding a card that requires them to complete a city of at least 6 tiles, and that same player is also
holding a card that requires them to complete a city of at least 10 tiles, they must complete two separate cities. In other
words, if that player completes a 12 tile city, they must choose whether they would like that completed city to fulfill the 6 tile
city order, or the 10 tile city order, as it cannot fulfill both at once.

Fulfillment clarifications
In the examples on the left, the card states that the Kings Order will be fulfilled when a road connected
to two complete cities (example 1), or a road connected to a city of at least 4 tiles (example 2) is
completed. However, in these examples, and in any similar objectives, the completion does NOT have to
occur in this order. In other words, the completion of the road may occur first. In this event, the objective
would then be fulfilled when a tile is placed that completes the city portion. As long as the cards
requirement as a whole is met, it doesnt matter how a player goes about completing it.

In these examples, there is a specific requirement of followers that needs to be met in order to complete the
Kings Order. In these examples, neither the pig nor the builder are counted when determining if that
number is met. Furthermore, both the big follower and mayor are only considered to be 1 follower.
These rules apply to all similar objectives requiring a specific number of followers.

These examples require the player to win a challenge as either a shrine or a cloister. However, the player
does not need to initiate the challenge. If a player has claimed a shrine or a cloister, and gets challenged
by another player, they will still complete the objective assuming they win the challenge with the
respective feature.

The card pictured on the left requires that a city be completed that contains at least 1 tower site. The
majority of the tower site must be positioned within the city for it to meet the requirements. In the two
tile examples, the top tower site does fall within the city, while the bottom tower site remains outside the
city. Therefore, completing a city using the bottom tile will not fulfill the requirement of the Kings Order.

This card requires a measurement. Players should measure from the very center of the fair tile to the nearest edge of the target
hurling token. The tokens nearest edge must land within 6 cm of the center of the fair tile. They do not need to win the target
hurling contest in order to fulfill this objective.

Carcassonne By Order of the King

This card is different from every other card. If a player is holding this card, they will lose 10 points if any of their followers
(including the pig, builder, wagon, or mayor) is removed from play by the dragon. When this happens, the player must show
this card and 10 points will be subtracted. If a player holds this card and avoids the dragon until the end of the game, they
will be awarded 10 points.

Final Scoring
At the end of the game, ALL unfulfilled cards that players are holding are worth a value of -10 points. Players should

game in which they failed to complete must subtract 30 points from their score.

If at any time a player is holding 3 or more cards that require placing a farmer, that player may discard up to 2 of those cards
at the beginning of his next turn. A player must show these cards to the rest of the players at the time of the discard.
If a player is still holding this card at the end of the game, they will not lose 10 points. Instead, they will receive 10 points for avoiding the dragon
for the entire time in which they held this card.

Final Scoring

At the end of the game, ALL unfulfilled cards that players are holding are worth a value of -10 points. Players should
subtract the appropriate number of points from their score. For example, a player that is holding 3 cards at the end of the
game in which they failed to complete must subtract 30 points from their score.
The player who has fulfilled the most Kings Order cards over the course of the game receives 10 additional points. In the
event of a tie, all players with that amount will receive the 10 bonus points.

As stated above, if a player is still holding this card at the end of the game, they will not lose 10 points. Instead, they will
receive 10 points for avoiding the dragon for the entire time in which they held this card.
