Choose a piece of music from any genre or time period and provide an in-depth explanation of
the piece in writing and through an oral presentation.
Analysis (Essay)
Length: 34 pages
o Typed

High school-level writing, including proper capitalization, punctuation, and grammar
Using appropriate musical terminology, discuss the following:
o Instrumentation
o Form
o Mode
o Meter
o Tempo
o Dynamics
o Other musical elements
Due: Share with me through GoogleDrive by the final exam (January 10 at 7:45 a.m.)
Presentation
Length: 510 minutes
Play excerpts from your piece to demonstrate the points you are making.
You may play additional musical examples as needed (for example, to show how your
piece is similar to or different from another piece or to indicate similarities/differences
between multiple arrangements/versions of a piece).
You may include visuals.
You may discuss connections to history and culture and discuss technology that might
have made the piece possible.
Be prepared to answer questions from peers and/or teacher.
Due: You will present during the final exam time slot on January 10.
Please refer to the Suggested Time Line for Project Completion (on reverse) for guidelines to
help you pace yourselves with this assignment. You will have class time to work on this, but feel
free to spend as much time as needed outside of class.
I will use the attached rubric to score your analysis and presentation.
