the Northeast region and how they
have shaped the region.

Within groups, the students will be creating a

comic strip that highlights important events in
the Northeast.

SWAT summarize historical events in

the Northeast region.

The students will have to include a mini blurb

or dialogue in their comic strip that
summarizes each historical event.

Materials:

Student Activity book

Timeline event cards
Brainpop

Pre-lesson assignments and/or prior knowledge: Students have been learning about the
Northeast region but this will be their first time learning about specific historical events.
Lesson Beginning: The teachers will begin the lesson with picking the fun fact for the
state of Pennsylvania that will be featured on the bulletin board. Next, the teachers will
read to the students the letter from the student in that state and they will guess which state
it is.

Instructional Plan:

The teacher will explain to students that the activity they do today will be used to
make their comic strips which they will do the following day

The teacher will explain that at each station the students will learn about a
historical time period by working together to place events into the proper
chronological order

The teacher will break the students up into four main groups that represent the
major historical events that will be studied and each teacher will work with one of
the groups
o Group One: Native Americans
o Group Two: Colonists
o Group Three: American Revolution
o Group Four: Industrial Revolution

Each group will be given a mini blurb about their time period to read aloud along
with a set of cards that has a description of major events and details of what
happened or led up to the overall topic

After reading and with the guidance of the teacher, students will be responsible
for placing the cards in the correct chronological order

The students will then move on to the other stations that deal with other major
historical time periods that have shaped the region
Differentiation:
The students can work in their groups as they complete the timeline
The teachers will be at each station to help the students that need it
The students will have the blurb about the time period to reference
Classroom Management:
The teachers will be picking the groups that the students are working in
There will be a teacher at each station monitoring the students
Questions:
How did each of these events affect the Northeast?
What comes from the Revolutionary War?
Compare and contrast what life would be like if the colonies had not won the war.
How did the Industrial Revolution change this region?
Explain in what ways you think the rapid growth of cities around the Northeast
influenced peoples way of life.
Transitions:
The teachers will give the students a five minute warning before switching
stations
Closure: The teacher will have students wrap up at their station and put away all their
supplies before getting ready for recess.
