COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
Scholarships Available to Milan High School
COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF MONROE COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is endowed and supported by the Community Foundation of Monroe County to be
awarded to graduating seniors in Monroe County who have exhibited outstanding leadership.
Average Award: $500
Eligibility Requirements:
Past recipients may apply for renewal for up to a total of four years.
Past recipients who are currently enrolled in a college or university, continuing to pursue a degree in a
science-related field, and who are maintaining a college GPA of 3.0 or better may apply for a
continuing award.
Past recipients may apply for renewal for up to a total of four years.
Qualifying institutions may be a college, university, accredited school or journalism or trade school.
Past recipients may apply for renewal for up to a total of four years.
Based on need.
Must live in Milan Area School district for at least two years prior to application date.
Past recipients may apply for renewal for the following year.
Graduating senior of Milan High School who has exhibited leadership skills, involvement in school
activities (clubs, organizations, extra curricular activities etc.), community involvement, and has
maintained good character. Recipient should be an individual who is service / civic minded.
Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, community college, or vocational program and
need not be in the state of Michigan attending full or part time.
Involvement in activities, an interest in the field of education, and have demonstrated leadership
experience and responsibilities. However, all interested students will be considered.
Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, accredited business school, community college
and need not be in the state of Michigan full or part time.
Non-renewable.
Graduating Senior who has a physical disability that has had an impact on their high school career.
Verification of the physical disability is required by a medical doctor (MD or DO) and must be
submitted with the application. In accordance with the wishes of the donor, preference will be given to
an amputee.
Payments will be made directly to the school or program, which the student is attending. Scholarship
money is not to be used for books.
Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, community college, or vocational program and need
not be in the state of Michigan.
Attendance may be full or part time as the students disability allows but must be continuous and all
classes must be relevant to the degree or course they are pursuing. All currently active scholarships will
be reviewed by the scholarship committee each year and extensions may be provided where special
circumstances apply.
Ethel Richards Scholarship
This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by the Richards
family to provide scholarships to Milan High School graduating seniors who wish to major in a business
program.
Award: (2) $1,500
Eligibility Requirements:
Recipients shall have demonstrated interest in a business program such as but not limited to: business
administration, data processing, clerical and marketing.
Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, accredited business school, community college
and need not be in the state of Michigan full or part time.
Non-renewable.
Recipients shall have demonstrated scholastic achievement, participation in athletics for at least one
year, participation in extracurricular activities, service to the community and school, and based on
financial need.
Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, community college and need not be in the state
of Michigan.
The Duane & Isabelle Schultz Milan Area Schools Alumni Scholarship
This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by Duane &
Isabelle Schultz to Milan High School graduating seniors.
Award: (1) $1,000
Eligibility Requirements:
Non-renewable.
Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, community college, or vocational program within
the State of Michigan.
Recipients shall have lettered in a minimum of 2 varsity sports and have demonstrated community or
school citizenship involving leadership experience and responsibilities.
Recipients shall be a resident or City of Milan or Greater Milan area townships for a minimum of 4
years. However, all interested students will be considered.
Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, accredited business school, community college
and need not be in the state of Michigan full or part time.
Qualifying institutions include junior or community college, traditional university, vocational school, and
other degree- or certification-granting programs (full- or part-time), excluding online programs.
Scholarship may be renewed for up to three additional years if funds permit and if student maintains at
least a 3.2 college GPA.
Must have demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability (e.g., sustainable consumer product
development, renewable energy, food security, domestic access to clean running water, natural
resource conservation, urban agriculture, community supported agriculture, humane animal
husbandry, sustainable waste management, green-build construction, etc.) through participation in
activities, clubs, or projects or stated interest/intentions to participate in such.
Must have minority status as defined by financial need, race/ethnicity, gender, and/or otherwise.
Preference will be given to students who have interest in using their education to improve conditions
for Michiganders in need.
