Scholarships Available to Milan High School
COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF MONROE COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is endowed and supported by the Community Foundation of Monroe County to be
awarded to graduating seniors in Monroe County who have exhibited outstanding leadership.
Average Award: $500
Eligibility Requirements:

Graduating senior of any Monroe County high school.

Accepted by and attending any four-year college or university.

GPA 3.0 or better.

Participation in community activities; Leadership is a key criterion.

Past recipients may apply for renewal for up to a total of four years.

AHADI WOMEN IN SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP


This scholarship was endowed by Dr. Soudabeh Ahadi of Monroe, Michigan, to encourage young women
to enter the field of science.
Average Award: (2) $500
Eligibility Requirements:

Female graduating seniors of any Monroe County high school.

GPA 3.0 or better and of good character.

Pursuing a degree in any science-related field.

Accepted by and attending any Michigan College or University.

Past recipients who are currently enrolled in a college or university, continuing to pursue a degree in a
science-related field, and who are maintaining a college GPA of 3.0 or better may apply for a
continuing award.

Transcripts required along with ACT scores.

THE B. D. & JANE E. McINTYRE SCHOLARSHIP


This scholarship was endowed by the B. D. and Jane E. McIntyre Foundation to provide financial
assistance to students attending Hillsdale College.
Average Award: $500
Eligibility Requirements:

Graduating seniors of any Monroe County High School.

Accepted by and attending Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan.

GPA 3.0 or better.

Evidence of good citizenship through participation in school and community activities.

Past recipients may apply for renewal for up to a total of four years.

GRATTAN & STEPHEN T. GRAY SCHOLARSHIP


Endowed by the employees of the Monroe Evening News in honor of Grattan and Stephen T. Gray on the
occasion of the completion of the employee buyout of the Monroe Evening News.
This scholarship is available to graduating seniors of high schools in Monroe County, Flat Rock, Gibraltar,
New Boston, Huron or Milan.
Average award: $500
Eligibility Requirements

Pursuing a degree in journalism or a newspaper-related field.

A maintained grade point average of 3.0 or better in high school.

Demonstrated interest in Community Service through Community Involvement.

Qualifying institutions may be a college, university, accredited school or journalism or trade school.

Past recipients may apply for renewal for up to a total of four years.

MEREL F. KECK AND MAGGIE M. KECK SCHOLARSHIP


This scholarship was endowed by Merel and Maggie Keck to provide scholarships annually to each of the
following; providing funds are available:
Average Award: $1000
1. Female Grad of any Monroe County, MI High School attending MCCC Nursing rogram.
2. Graduating Seniors of any Monroe County, Michigan High School pursuing a Finance Degree from
any university in Michigan.
3. Male Grad of any Monroe County, Michigan High School entering into the Southern Baptist Seminary.
Eligibility Requirements

Recipients need a 3.0 GPA

SHANNON I. REVEL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND


This scholarship was endowed by Larry and Illa Revel as a memorial to their daughter. This scholarship
will be targeted for graduating Seniors from Monroe County Public Schools enrolling in the field of
environmental engineering or in the field of engineering.
Average Award: $500

Graduating senior from Monroe County Public High Schools.


Has been accepted in a college in the field of engineering or environmental engineering.
Has financial need which is established by counselor or principal of the high school.
Has a grade point average of at least 3.5.

Greater Milan Area Community Foundation


Ethan C. Jones Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by Ann Jones in
memory of Ethan Jones to provide scholarships to graduating seniors of Milan High School striving to be
economically independent through higher education.
Award: (1) $1500
Eligibility Requirements:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Accredited post-secondary institution, including a college or university, community college, technical


school and need not be in the State of Michigan.

Completion of a course of study designated by the school

Based on need.

Must live in Milan Area School district for at least two years prior to application date.

Past recipients may apply for renewal for the following year.

Milan Area Schools Board of Education Scholarship


This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by the Milan
Area Schools Board of Education to provide scholarships to graduating seniors of Milan High School who
meet the criteria established by the Board of Education.
Award: (1) $750
Eligibility Requirements:

Graduating senior of Milan High School who has exhibited leadership skills, involvement in school
activities (clubs, organizations, extra curricular activities etc.), community involvement, and has
maintained good character. Recipient should be an individual who is service / civic minded.

Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, community college, or vocational program and
need not be in the state of Michigan attending full or part time.

Need will also be taken into consideration.

GPA of 2.5 or higher.

David Glenn Memorial Scholarship


This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by Pauline
Glenn and Milan Area Schools to provide scholarships to graduating seniors of MHS who intends to
pursue a degree in education.
Award: (2) $1,000
Eligibility Requirements:

Involvement in activities, an interest in the field of education, and have demonstrated leadership
experience and responsibilities. However, all interested students will be considered.

Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, accredited business school, community college
and need not be in the state of Michigan full or part time.

Non-renewable.

Ronnie & Paulette Shores Scholarship


This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by Nina
Pemberton and the Milan Area Schools, to provide scholarships to Milan High School graduating seniors
who have a physical disability. Verification of the physical disability is reguired by a medical doctor (MD or
DO) and must be submitted with the application.
Award: (1) $6,000, $1,500 per year for four years
Eligibility Requirements:

Graduating Senior who has a physical disability that has had an impact on their high school career.
Verification of the physical disability is required by a medical doctor (MD or DO) and must be
submitted with the application. In accordance with the wishes of the donor, preference will be given to
an amputee.

Payments will be made directly to the school or program, which the student is attending. Scholarship
money is not to be used for books.

Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, community college, or vocational program and need
not be in the state of Michigan.
Attendance may be full or part time as the students disability allows but must be continuous and all
classes must be relevant to the degree or course they are pursuing. All currently active scholarships will
be reviewed by the scholarship committee each year and extensions may be provided where special
circumstances apply.
Ethel Richards Scholarship
This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by the Richards
family to provide scholarships to Milan High School graduating seniors who wish to major in a business
program.
Award: (2) $1,500
Eligibility Requirements:

Recipients shall have demonstrated interest in a business program such as but not limited to: business
administration, data processing, clerical and marketing.

Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, accredited business school, community college
and need not be in the state of Michigan full or part time.

Non-renewable.

Evelyn (Hitchingham) Gerstenberg Scholarship


This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by the
Gerstenberg Family to provide scholarships to Milan High School graduating seniors who wish to
complete a bachelors degree.
Award: (1) $4000, $1000 per year for four years
Eligibility Requirements:

Recipients shall have demonstrated scholastic achievement, participation in athletics for at least one
year, participation in extracurricular activities, service to the community and school, and based on
financial need.

Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, community college and need not be in the state
of Michigan.

Recipients must be pursuing a bachelors degree and attending school full-time.

The Duane & Isabelle Schultz Milan Area Schools Alumni Scholarship
This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by Duane &
Isabelle Schultz to Milan High School graduating seniors.
Award: (1) $1,000
Eligibility Requirements:

GPA of 2.8 or above.

Must have completed four years at Milan High School.

Must have written recommendations from two faculty members.

Must attach a transcript of high school grades.

Recipients shall have demonstrated evidence of good citizenship through participation


in school and community activities, and maintained a good character.

Recipients must attend school full time.

Non-renewable.

Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, community college, or vocational program within
the State of Michigan.

Eric Harrison Memorial Scholarship


This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by Tim and
Connie Harrison to provide scholarships to Milan High School graduating seniors.
Award: (1) $1,000
Eligibility Requirements:

Recipients shall have lettered in a minimum of 2 varsity sports and have demonstrated community or
school citizenship involving leadership experience and responsibilities.

Recipients shall be a resident or City of Milan or Greater Milan area townships for a minimum of 4
years. However, all interested students will be considered.

Non-renewable and must be used within one school year.

GPA of 3.5 or above.

Recipients can attend school full time or part-time.

Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, accredited business school, community college
and need not be in the state of Michigan full or part time.

Michael A. Tittiger Sustainability & Conservation Scholarship


This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by Rachel Butts
to provide tuition assistance to Milan High School graduating seniors of minority status who are interested
in environmental sustainability and/or conservation.
Award: (1) $1,000
Eligibility Requirements:

Residency within the Milan School District boundary.

Cumulative GPA of at least 2.8.

Qualifying institutions include junior or community college, traditional university, vocational school, and
other degree- or certification-granting programs (full- or part-time), excluding online programs.

Funds can be applied toward tuition expenses only.

Scholarship may be renewed for up to three additional years if funds permit and if student maintains at
least a 3.2 college GPA.

Must have demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability (e.g., sustainable consumer product
development, renewable energy, food security, domestic access to clean running water, natural
resource conservation, urban agriculture, community supported agriculture, humane animal
husbandry, sustainable waste management, green-build construction, etc.) through participation in
activities, clubs, or projects or stated interest/intentions to participate in such.

Must have minority status as defined by financial need, race/ethnicity, gender, and/or otherwise.

Preference will be given to students who have interest in using their education to improve conditions
for Michiganders in need.

Caroline ODonnell and Judy Heath Memorial Scholarship Fund


This scholarship is through the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation and endowed by Von
Thompson and Mary Greenleaf to provide scholarships to Milan High School graduating seniors who wish
to pursue undergraduate education.
Award: (1) $500
Eligibility Requirements:
GPA of 2.6 or above.
Pursuing a career in the field of health care (i.e. nurse, doctor, medical technician, occupational or
physical therapist, etc.)
Recipients shall have demonstrated community or school citizenship involving experience in
extracurricular activities such as sports, clubs, employment and/or volunteer work.
Qualifying institutions may be a college or university, accredited business school, community college
and need not be in the state of Michigan full or part time. Eligible expenses include tuition, and/or room
and board.
Non-renewable.
