WHY YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE AFRAID

"Im not looking for signs, Im looking for the Savior"
The book of Luke introduces us to the beloved physician, Jesus Christ Throughout his gospel,
Luke uses these words of Jesus seven times: "Dont be afraid."

I. DONT BE AFRAID... GOD IS STILL ANSWERING PRAYER

Luke 1:514: We must remember...
God answers prayer when He wants to.
God answers prayer the way He wants to.
Gods delays are often not denials.
Pray without ceasing. Its not just a set of words on the lipsHe sees the desires of the heait. This is how
we pray without ceasing; a constant offering of the incense of prayer to the Lord. By the way, if weve been
meeting the Lord in prayer, some of that fragrance should stick to us.
Fear not, God answers prayer.

II. DONT BE AFRAID ... GOD GIVES GRACE

Luke 1:2638: The angel Gabriel comes to Mary and says, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have
found favor with God." God called upon Mary to do a very difficult thing. But God says, dont be
afraid, Ill give you grace.
Phillips Brooks used to say to his congregation, "Do not pray for easy livespray to be better men
and women. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powerspray for powers equal to your tasks."
We may be facing surgeryor some confrontation that will be painful. But God says, "Dont be
afraid." God will provide what I need when I need itas long as Im willing to glorify Him.

III. DONT BE AFRAID ... GOD HAS GOOD NEWS

Luke 2:8-18: When the Lord wanted to send an announcement of the birth of His Son, He chose
shepherds. The shepherds were frightened, but the angel said, "Dont be afraid for I bring you
tidings of great joy." God had glorious good news! The "glory" hadnt been on the earth until Jesus
came, and the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us and we beheld His glory.
There is bad news in the Bible but its there so we will Believe the Good News. Dont be afraid
God has good news for you. The only way youll know this Good News is to read your Bible.

IV. DONT BE AFRAID ... GOD HAS A JOB FOR YOU

Luke 5:111: Peter had been fishing all night and had caught nothing. He was mending his nets
when Jesus asked him to push out into the deep. They launched out and they caught all those
fish! Peter was astonished.
In verse 10, Jesus says, "Dont be afraidIve got a job for you to do. Ill make you a fisher of
men." It doesnt matter how young or old you areGod has a job for you.
Peter wasnt a quitterhe mended his nets and went back out. He was obedient and he had faith.
We never retire from life.

V. DONT BE AFRAID ... GOD HAS EVERYTHING IN CONTROL

Luke 8:4156: The Lord is surrounded by people when Jairus, an official of the synagogue,
comes up and tells him that his daughter is dying. Jesus starts to go with him but stops because a
woman who has been sick for 12 years touches him and becomes well. But now over at Jairus
house there is a little girl who has been well for 12 years and now she was sick. Only Jesus can
take such opposites and bring them together.
In the delay it took to heal the woman, the little girl dies. But our Lord in Heaven can help all of us
at one timeno one will delay Him. Jesus says to Jairus, "Dont be afraidonly believe." Jesus
goes to the little girl, says, "wake up," and she does.
We have situations we feel we cant control and we worry. Dont be afraidGod has everything
under control The fear of God is the fear that drives away all other fear. When you fear God you
dont have to fear anything else.

VI. DONT BE AFRAID ... YOU ARE VALUABLE TO GOD

Luke 12:47: Jesus told His disciples that they might be killed or threatened by the authorities,
"But, dont be afraidyoure very valuable to God."
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." That means that were so precious to
Him that the death of one of His children is never an accidentits an appointment.
A graduate of a well-known Christian college, called the president of the school and told him, "Im
thinking very seriously of committing suicide." The president wisely responded, "How dare you
come into the presence of God without an invitation?"
Are you concerned about death? Dont beyou are very precious to God.

VII. DONT BE AFRAID... THE FUTURE IS SECURE

Luke 12:32: "Do not fear, little flock, for its your Fathers good pleasure to give you the Kingdom."
Jesus is saying you belong to His flock and He takes care of His sheep. No one can pluck them
out of His hand. In fact, youre a part of the Kingdom already.
Dont be afraidthe future is all secure.
