Photoshop Diary

Aim: Create A3 poster and graphics in Photoshop

Evidence:

I began the production of my A3 poster by adding in all the typography

that my poster includes. In my hand drawn design for my poster, I decided
to try and limit the amount of words on the poster so that I have more
than enough space to fit an image in the centre of the poster. I also
decided that my typography will be spread across the page of the poster,
so that the words are not just clumped together which could make it hard
to read. I opted to colour the text in a bold red colour, so that the text
stands out as well as the graphic I will include.

After this, I
then added a colour scheme that is suitable to the overall theme of my
poster. I did this by drawing a rectangle shape around the perimeter of the
poster and then by sending the shape to the back of all the layers so that
the text and any other additional features that I add will be placed on top
of the rectangle. I chose a brown colour to begin with and then added
various styles and effects in the properties window shown below. To get
the effect shown here, I added a pre-set effect to the colour that I initially
chose.

Once I was

happy with the

text and
the colour
scheme I
had chosen
I
then went on to create the graphics that will be placed in the centre of my
poster. To do this, I got a picture of an old world war 2 gun online, then
imported it into Photoshop. After this, I then began drawing the basic
outline for the gun by trying to copy very carefully all the lines and keep
them in proportion to the rest of the gun. Once I had a standard outline for
the gun, I then added the smaller features to the gun that make it unique
to my game and poster.

Game cover
Aim: To produce my game cover in Photoshop
Evidence:

To start the process

of
creating the cover
for my
game, I set up Photoshop with a width of 27.4cm and a height of 18.3cm
as this is the most suitable canvas size for the graphic I will be creating.
After I had the canvas size that is most suited to my graphic, I started to
add in all the features that I wanted to include in my game case. I began
by adding in the 3 individual borders where I will display the information
about my game. I have split up my canvas into 3 sections, the front cover
(right), the back cover (left) and the middle where I will put the title of my
game as well as the platform that the game is for.

After this, I

then
added all the typography onto my game case. All the
on my case differ in size and colour, depending on the
purpose of the text and where it is placed on the case.
front of the case for example includes the largest text

text
The

out of all the text on my cover. This is because I want the text on my front

cover to stand out the most, as the front cover will be the first part of the
cover that people will see, so I want it to catch the eye and interest
people. I have also decided to use bold colours and style of writing for the
same reason. I wanted to colour my text as I feel that a standard black
colour would not look interesting enough and would not stand out as
much on the cover.

Once I was happy with the text on my game cover, I then started adding
in all the smaller features that are found on all games. I added the
platform logo my game will played on (PS4) on the front cover as well as
the middle strip. This is because all games follow the same layout in that
they include the logo of the gaming platform on the front cover as well as
the middle. I also included the age rating of my game (18) and a barcode
on my game cover. Instead of designing the age rating symbol myself, I
decided to import one into Photoshop from the internet. This is because
the same age rating symbol is used on every game to display who is able
to play the game so it would not make sense creating the symbol myself.

I also added the Rockstar Games logo to the back of my game cover. I
did this because I am designing my game for Rockstar (as mentioned in
the assignment brief). All games developed by or commissioned by
Rockstar include their logo somewhere on the cover of the game. I
decided to the Rockstar logo on the back of the cover as I will not have
any space to put the logo on the front as the graphic on my front cover
will take up most of the space.

I continued by creating
the graphic that will go on
the front cover of my
game. I designed this
using the rounded
rectangle tool. Once I had
the size of the rectangle
that I wanted, I then
added various styles,
effects and colours to my
graphic. I added similar
colours to that of my text
on my front cover. This
gave my game case a
suitable colour scheme
that is noticeable in the
graphic as well as the text.

To finish my game
cover, I then
added the final
graphic to the
back of my game case. This
graphic is the same
as the one that is
found on the A3 poster for
my game. I
designed this
graphic prior to
the production of
my game case, so
I only had to import the images from
my personal
workspace. However, I designed the
guns in
Photoshop by getting a basic image of
a gun off the
internet and then
creating another
layer in Photoshop to draw over the basic outline of the gun to get the
general layout of the image. After this, I then added the smaller details
into the gun by simply drawing them in with the pencil tool. I only needed
a fine pencil line to draw my gun and a plain black colour as I wanted the
graphic to be simple, yet effective.
