For my picture I chose an image of a household cat sitting in front of a
wall. Behind him is his shadow, but his shadow is that of a full grown
lion. I decided to choose this picture because it relates to the point of
what you perceive is your reality, as shown in The Allegory of the
Cave. To a regular person what they see from this picture may be
wrong in their eyes. It does not make any sense how a cat could have a
shadow of a lion because of the difference in size and aesthetics.
What most people fail to do in this case is look beyond the picture
and ask questions. For instance, what if the cats shadow isnt a lion but
instead there is a lion in front of the cat out of view that is casting a
shadow on the wall. If someone had never seen a cat and a lion they
might think that there is nothing wrong with this picture. This goes to
show how perception can change ones reality.
In the story we see how the prisoners only see the shadows of
figures passing by, and how these shadows become their reality. If this
were the case for this picture than people may believe that when they
see a shadow of a lion it is actually a cat or vice virsa. Perception is
what makes our life have meaning, without it we would be lost.
