Benefits Of Bilingualism
Project Description:
My Senior project will be teaching a Spanish class after school to students who want to
learn Spanish but don't have either enough room in their schedule or just want something to do

Campos,2
after school and learn something different. My Mentor will probably be Miss Bonhvei since she
is a Spanish teacher, and that is what I'm working with. The Purpose of my project is to provide
an opportunity for those who want to learn how to speak spanish. Throughout the lesson I want
to show them the basics, so they can know how to keep a conversation going. Tools that will help
achieve this goal is duolingo. Its an app that teaches you spanish, or any language. This will help
students to practice their spanish when they are outside of school. Also I will be testing them
once a week to see their progress, and see what exactly they are having trouble with. I feel like
this would help them very well in the future because people who speak more than one language
have priorities over any job they want or apply for. It's just a great skill to have because you may
never know when you might need it, plus Spanish is the second most spoken language in the
U.S.
Research:
Due to my research on my project, I found great information and what are really good
benefits for knowing more than one language. In the article 10 Reasons To Be Bilingual it
explains top ten reasons why people should learn more than one language. The reasons that are
important are An Edge In The Job Market as in being bilingual can be a significant career
advantage knowing more than one language will give you an advantage among others that only
know one language. A More Fulfilling Travel Experiences which means when you travel to a
place where you know the language it will become easier for you, also give you the opportunity
to have personal interactions with the place you are visiting. Also according to this article it gives
you a Bigger Brain as in bilingual brain looks and works differently than a monolingual brains
(Hummel, Jamie). Not only does it give you a Bigger Brain it also expands your study abroad.
In other words knowing more than one language allows you to gain more knowledge. You know

more than others, and if learning it at a young age will help you more. It will open door for you
throughout life, give you all kinds of different opportunities.
Reflection:
This senior project is not only to help students in learning a new language, but also giving
me the opportunity to expand their knowledge and experiences. Teaching them a little part of my
culture, sharing a piece of me with others. I believe this project will be a great way of showing
people what I truly know, and how it can make a difference to people. Not only would I teach
students a new language, but go more into depth with them about the culture and the true
meaning of why knowing a new language can be beneficial. Still working on the process, I know
this project will be successful. At the end of the day something will be taught, and something
will be learned. Not only for the students, but for I as well. I know many great professions, but
doing this will give me a better understanding of how we learn as students. Using different
techniques will allow me to give the students an easier understanding of the language.
Throughout their lives they will keep learning many different things, and hopefully what they
learn with me, they will share with others. Keeping bilingualism alive.
