Format
The format of a laboratory report is similar to the format of the common essay
outline. It should be formal and should include bold headings with the
necessary information listed below, and following the correct organization. A
laboratory report should not include images, videos, audio, or citations.
Language
These reports are formal and should encompass a very serious tone
throughout. The use of I, personal experiences, and humor are not
appropriate within laboratory reports. In addition, the use of metaphors and
other descriptive language is not correct within this type of writing.
Sentences
The report should be informational and straight to the point, providing only
necessary information through concise sentences and an organized paper
structure. This type of writing does not flow as an essay does and is written
point-by-point. Grammar is somewhat but not exceedingly important within
this piece of formal writing.

Organization
Ideas and information within these types of writing are organized in a logical,
professional manner.
Format
The format for this type of writing should include: important terms and their
definitions, data/statistics, possibly related images/video, and citations.
Language
This type of writing should follow a serious and informative tone, providing
readers with only the necessary information. In addition, opinions, humor, and
other informal statements/descriptive language are rarely stated within these
types of writing.
Sentences
The sentence structure within this type of writing should be continuous and
should flow while providing all of the important information. Grammar is very
important within this type of writing as it is commonly written and used by
scholars and professionals within that particular field. Lack of correct
grammar and correctly spelled words within a piece of writing tend to make it
less credible and significant. Therefore, within this type of writing, all words,
grammar, and statements are to be correct.

1. I chose to present one of the video sources I used in my LOI. The video above is
produced by CNN and the speaker begins by discussing the topic of the highly illegal
organ trade within the black market and the controversy surrounding it. The term video
is a very broad term, therefore, the genre of a video varies from topic to topic and from
video to video. Videos are generally sorted into different subcategories and are given
specific names that are useful to one wishing to search and find certain information on a
particular topic.
2. Like the genre of videos, the credibility and respect of the video are dependent
upon the video itself, and where that video came from. The video I used as a source
came from CNN, a very credible source, making it a credible argument and able to be
accepted by viewers. In general, I think video sources and documentaries especially are
for the most part, highly credible; with the only negative aspect being the possibility of
bias (only presenting one side of the argument) or misrepresentation of information
within the video source.
