TExES Competency PPR(EC-12)

Competency 001:
The teacher understands human development processes and
applies this knowledge to plan instruction and ongoing
assessment that motivate students and are responsive to their
developmental characteristics and needs
No child is the same and learns the same way. An educator must
know this and accommodate to each student.
Competency 002:
The teacher understands student diversity and knows how to
plan learning experiences and design assessments that are
responsive to differences among students and that promote all
students learning.
The educator has knowledge of the diversity and differences of
the students. Diverse backgrounds are respected.
Competency 003:
The teacher understands procedures for designing effective
and coherent instruction and assessment based on appropriate
learning goals and objectives.
The teacher understands the TEKS and how to plan accordingly
to make sure the correct information is properly passed on to the
students in an effective way.
Competency 004:
The teacher understands learning processes and factors that
impact student learning and demonstrates this knowledge by
planning effective, engaging instruction and appropriate
assessments.
The teacher understands how students think. The teacher must
teach on a level where the students understand and not go over their
head or bore them.
Competency 005:
The teacher knows how to establish a classroom climate that
fosters learning, equity and excellence and uses this
knowledge to create a physical an emotional environment that
is safe and productive.

The teacher uses knowledge of each student at different levels to


make sure the learning environment is positive and safe.
Competency 006:
The teacher understands strategies for creating an organized
and productive learning environment and for managing
student behavior.
The teacher understands how their class reacts to certain
learning styles and capitalizes on the ones that the students respond
to the best. The teacher also uses group activities so the students can
work together.
Competency 007:
The teacher understands and applies principles and strategies
for communicating effectively in varied teaching and learning
contexts.
The teacher demonstrates clear communication skills that are
appropriate to the students age, interest, and background.
Competency 008:
The teacher provides appropriate instruction that actively
engages students in the learning process.
The teacher uses different teaching styles to make learning
entertaining and appeal to all learning styles.
Competency 009:
The teacher incorporates the effective use of technology to
plan organize, deliver and evaluate instruction for all students.
The teacher shows a base understanding of current technology
to benefit their teaching strategies.
Competency 010:
The teacher monitors student performance and achievement;
provides students with timely, high-quality feedback; and
responds flexibly to promote learning for all students.
The teacher keeps an eye on how their students are responding
to the information. They make changes according to how the students
to on grades and understanding
Competency 011:

The teacher understands the importance of family involvement


in childrens education and knows how to interact and
communicate effectively with families.
The teacher keeps communication with the parents as open as
possible. Technology is a great way. The teacher can text, post on
social media, or send home letters.
Competency 012:
The teacher understands professional knowledge and skills by
effectively interacting with other members of the educational
community and participating in various types of professional
activities.
The teacher interacts with coworkers professionally and makes
the work environment enjoyable.
Competency 013:
The teacher understands and adheres to legal and ethical
requirements for educators and is knowledgeable of the
structure of education in Texas.
The teacher knows the legal requirements for educators and
follows the guidelines set.
