Where does your seed come from ?

Most of my seeds are imported. I have some seed
s sourced from my own farm from seeds initially imported from abroad. Ceba Rawit
for example came from seeds imported from Indonesia but I have grown it in our
farm for more than 4 generations. My Habaneros are sourced from a contract growe
r who grows only Habaneros. But most are sourced from the USA from Pepper Lover
and for the more commercial varieties like Jalapenos from commercial seed produc
ers and distributors. I make a conscious effort to source my seeds only from sou
rces with very good reputations. I only sell seeds that I also plant in our farm
.
How many seeds are in a packet?
For chillis in most cases it says 18 seeds to a
packet. Expect at least 18. Most Asian varieties and some habaneros will be more
. It is best to read the list carefully as we make sure the seed count and price
is clear.
Are your seeds fresh? I order in batches of 500 seeds or less and are normally s
old out in 3 months. I order in small quantities through the course of the year.
Having said that, experts in the chilli trade say that they are good for 5 year
s. When you get your seeds store them in a cool place. The Medicine cabinet is a
good place. The ref is good. I said ref not the freezer.
Do you guarantee the seeds sold.?
I guarantee only to the description of the see
ds. If the pack says red habanero and it turns to be a Carolina reaper (lucky yo
u) I will replace the seeds or pay you back. But you got to prove it first and f
oremost. I warrant to the extent of the purchase price of the seeds as described
within universally recognized tolerances. The warranty is limited to the amount
of the seeds regardless of the extent, nature or cause of the loss. We must be
given notice 30 days after the defect in the seeds has become apparent. If you a
re not amenable to these conditions do not order from us. The moment you order w
e presume that you have seen this notice and agree to the terms and conditions s
tipulated herein. And there must be proof of such.
How do you ship? We ship by courier. I only ship by LBC or JRS. If these service
companies are not available in your area I can ship by Philpost at your own ris
k. LBC is more expensive. They charge 160.00 even for 1 packet of seeds while J
RS will charge from 99 to 107 pesos for any quantity that can fit in their lette
r pouch. Because I will make a special trip to the post office for just one pack
age I charge 100 pesos for mail.

How do I store the seeds?

Keep them in a constantly cool place away from direct
sun light. The medicine cabinet in your bathroom would be ideal. Refrigeration i
s also good. Remember refrigeration NOT Freezing
Pre planting treatment It is best to pre-soak the seeds overnight in clean non c
hlorinated water. Others soak in black tea to soften the seed coat and many also
keep the seeds in the refrigerator .remember I said refrigerator not the freezer
for three days to mimic the winter before they sow them. Nevertheless patience i
s most important. Many seeds sprout in ten days but a few can take up to 60 days
What soil is best ?
Make a loose soil or soilless media that can maintain moistu
re but will not be too wet. A vermicast, cocopeat and sand mixture will be ideal
. Get a seedling tray with big cells so you can keep the seedling in them for lo
nger. Most important is to sterilize the soil. Dry fry them in a wok for 20 minu
tes or oven bake them for the same amount of time you can also place your mix in
a black plastic bag and toss them on the roof to heat up a few days. Sterile so
il is good for seeds and seedlings. There is an imported soilless media in the m
arket. Kassman TS3 has a very loyal following amongst chilli growers as a germin
ation media. Growell is another one.
What Fertilizer should we use? I use loads of well composted chicken manure befo
re planting in the fields and spray with Vermicast tea every week. I also drench
with UREA at 1 tsp per liter of water every week. When they start to flower I c
hange to 14-14-14 granules 1 tsp. per plant once a week and always water afterwa
rds. I spray a weekly high Phosphorous soluble fertilizer when they start to fru
it Fertilize. Give a bit of Epsom salts once they start to bud and do this every
month. This is the way I do it but there are many ways as there are as many ch
illi growers. I do not guarantee my procedure.
What is EPSOM salt?
Epsom salt is magnesium sulphate which plants of the nightsh
ade family that includes eggplants and tomatoes as well as chilli pepper plants
respond to very well. A spray of Epsom salts every other week will do your plan
ts well.
I grow my chilli plants in the fields, direct to soil. It is more forgiving than
pot grown plants. That s only me and others have grown far better plants in pots.
