Lesson 5: use of English

Learners book: page 34.

Prior Knowledge (What knowledge are you building on?)

Students already learned the alphabets
Students already learned the numbers from 1 10 and how to count from 1- 10.
Students already learned the colors.
Students already learned some of the fruits names like orange, strawberry, and apple.
Lesson Objectives: These must be SMART objectives specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time
bound
By the end of the lesson, students will be (better) able to:
- Read the fruits names which are apple, orange, strawberry, mango, pineapple, banana, pear, and
grape.
- Orally speak the fruits names which are apple, orange, strawberry, mango, pineapple, banana, pear,
and grape.
- Correctly write the fruits names which are apple, orange, strawberry, mango, pineapple, banana,
pear, and grape.

Lesson Activities: (What will students do in the lesson?)

- Story time: the students will have a story time.
- Pictures activity (group work): the students will have a group work activity that relate to the story.
- Worksheet: this is an individual activity which will focus in the students writing.
- Self- evaluation: the students will evaluate their learning by using the traffic lights.
Evaluation / Assessment: (How will you know your students have achieved the goal?)
(How will you evaluate the objectives that were identified? Have students practiced what you are asking
them to do for evaluation?)
- I will use the formative assessment to check students understanding. I will have the students names
with their lesson learning skills which are reading, speaking, and writing. Thus, I will go around
them while they working in group to check their reading and speaking of the lesson words. Then, I
will check their writing of the words trough seeing it in their worksheets. On the other hand, I will

let the students to evaluate their learning by putting their names in the appropriate color of the
traffic lights.

Personal focus (related to PDP): In this lesson I am working on my one of PDP goals which is:
- During semester 7 and 8, I want to increase my oral and written feedback to students, to improve
quality of quick feedback. However, I will focus in the oral feedback in this semester and the
written feedback for semester 8.
- I will try to give an oral feedback in appropriate time and I will put on my mind some specific
questions which are what can the student do? What cant the student do? How does the students
work compare with that of others? And how can the student do better? These questions will guide
me to give the students specific feedback.

The teacher will greet the students by saying

good morning my lovely students, how are
you? What are the classroom rules?
Now lets move to the helping hands poster.
The teacher will choose a student for the
calendar helper, and she will choose one
student from each group for the group leader,
paper handler, and pits and pieces helper.
The teacher will also remind the students of
the group points.

Students will
be able to
recognize the
fruits names
and say their
names orally
with counting
them.

The teacher will read the very hungry

caterpillar story. First, she will ask the
students what do they see in the story cover
for example, what is this? What its color?
Then, she will start reading the story with
asking different questions to involve the
students. For example, she will point her
finger in certain pictures in the story and ask
the students about their names but, she will
focus more in the fruits names, and she will
ask them to count how many fruits are there?
And repeat saying the words which is the
target focus of the lesson.

instructions. She will show the students the

materials that they will use to do the activity
which are 8 foam plates for each group, fruits
pictures, fruits names with number and glue.
So, first, students need to read the fruits
names. Second, they have to count them.
Third, they have to glue the picture with
appropriate word and number. For example,
they will have a picture of one apple and they
will have written 1 apple in a small paper.
So, they have to put the apple picture with 1
apple paper. During the students working, the
teacher will monitor them and check their
understanding by doing formative
assessment. This will be through having the
students list with their learning skills like
reading and speaking. She will record if the
students can read and speak the words
correctly (Appendix 1).
The teacher will apply the differentiation in
this activity. She will give the low ability
students a worksheet that includes the fruits
names in tracing way (Appendix 2). This is
because, they are very low in writing and this
will help them to write the words correctly
and practice their handwriting too. For the
middle ability students, she will give them a
worksheet that includes the pictures of the
fruits and their names in the word box. So
they will choose and write the right word
under the appropriate picture (Appendix 3).
While for the high ability students she will
give them a worksheet that includes the
picture of the fruits and their names and they

read the fruits names

Then, they will glue
the right picture with
appropriate words.

Low ability students:

they will write the
fruits names in the
sheet by using the
tracing.

Middle ability
students: they will

the words in the box,
and write the

have to name them depend in their color. For

example, name a red fruits, so they will
choose apple and strawberry as red fruits
(Appendix 4).

The teacher will ask each group to have their

names and come to put it in the traffic lights.
This means, if they are very confidence and
achieved the lesson learning objective they
will put their name in the green light. But, if
they are not sure they will put their name in
the yellow light, and if they dont know and
need more practice they will put their name
in the red light. The teacher will check their
names at the end of the class and she will ask
questions about the lesson in the next class as
a revision and explain for the students who
need help to make them have more clear idea
about the previous lesson.

High ability
students: they will
read the question,
see the pictures, and
write the answer of
descriptive
questions.
Each student will put
