Reflection Essay
I expect the class to be to very hard but in reality it was an easy class. I also did not have
any other expectations besides the one in the previous sentences. To answer the second question I
like about writing is that it is optional so that mean I have to write and what I do not like about
writing is that it is time consuming and boring. I knew a thing or two about logical fallacies for
example I knew what an ad hominem was. I was disappointed when you were going over logical
fallacies that you miss the most important one which was the strawman fallacy. It is important to
know about it because a strawman is when you misrepresented your opponents argument then
say that you have rebuttal it. Also it would have help the class to know how to represent a
counter argument in an unbiased way. That video you shown us about black lives matter and all
lives matter in the diner use the strawman fallacy by misrepresenting the all live matter position
claiming that they said shut up black people my life matters too. Then rebutting it by showing
how ridicules their argument is. When black live matter said it main grievance was that blacks
are the primary victim of police brutality then all lives matter said no police brutality affects
everyone. When we were learning about rhetorical appeals: logos, ethos, and pathos. I like logos
a lot but I do not the other two because ethos lead to ad hominem and pathos should be nowhere
near policies. You can see how ethos was used in presidential election in how the media was
trying to ruin creditable of the republican nominee by using ad hominem for example calling him
racist, sexist, and homophobic. It is an ad hominem because there was no evidence to prove that

it was true since it was just name calling it did not take away his creditable. The reason why
pathos should be nowhere near policies is that it will get you laws that undermine your freedoms.
To answer the fourth question what challenges I faces they were the workshops where I
had to write a one fifty response for each essay in the workshops. I found workshop three to be
the most difficult one to do because for that workshop I was the facilitator which means that I
had to write a three hundred response to a two page rough draft. In this workshop there were four
essays to response three of them were only two pages long which were hard to write a helpful
response because the essays little information. How I met the word count for the responses is by
reading the rough drafts carefully in order to know what they were arguing for or against then
coming up with possible counter arguments. I only know of one strength as a writer is that I am
great at finding sources and studies that will support my argument. This strength is highlighted
by the progression two essay in which my essay has about two pages of citations that led to an
essay that should have been five pages long to be about seven pages long. I feel that have
improved in the area about expressing your thoughts in a longer and more precise way. What I
would want to work on is using bigger words in my essays. Also I would want to work on my
spelling so I can spend less time on google searching for the correct spelling of a word. One
aspect of my writing that I am proud of is the fact that I can write a seven page essay in one
weekend. I will use the knowledge that I have access to most academic studies to find scholarly
source for the future essays that I will be writing in the next semester and onwards. I will also
use the knowledge that my English 114A professor is willing to help me long after I leave her
class to get her to revise my work just like the LRC but the wait is not long and I can make an
appointment to see her on the same day or day before. To any new students I would tell them to

start on their assignments as soon as possible so you can have a lot of time to look over your
work to fix the mistakes.
