Survival School: Managing Church Leadership Successfully

This event is a hands-on, leadership training by professionals who designed the program out of their
life experience working in Church and non-profit settings. Excellent team-teaching and well-
researched material provide the building blocks of this highly respected program. For over thirty
years, the name “Survival School” has earned a place at the forefront of leadership training for
church ministers and non-profit professionals in Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Washington D.C.,
Nevada and California.
You’ll learn by doing through hands-on, spiritually based workshops that let you discover vital
principles, techniques and methods of leadership.

As we continue to explore the difficult
problem of immigration from our Christian
perspective, I offer the views of Pax Christi,
Phoenix Chapter members. Pax Christi is the
Catholic Peace Organization. I invite all to
the Immigration education session this on
Sunday June 6th at 9:00 am and 10:45 am in the Fr. Owen
room.
OPEN LETTER FROM PAX CHRISTI PHOENIX ON THE SUBJECT
OF IMMIGRATION—
Pax Christi Phx members wish to express our concern
regarding the challenges posed by
immigration in our community and various
responses to them.
Holy Scripture tells us to welcome, not
harm, the stranger (Exodus22:21;
Leviticus19:34; Hebrews 13:1; Matthew
25:34-46). In addition, the Golden Rule, an idea prominent
in every faith tradition, makes it perfectly clear that we must
treat others as we would wish to be treated.
While respecting U.S. laws and our elected government,
we have a solemn responsibility to ensure that our laws are
just and that officials are acting for the common good. In
our current immigration crisis, it is clear to us that U.S. laws
are not just, effective or moral. It is, therefore, necessary for
people of faith to speak out on discrimination against our
Hispanic sisters and brothers.
Most immigrants travel from Central America and Mexico
to Arizona to work for survival and to provide for their
families. For many years, these workers were free to come
and go, and most of them returned home to Mexico.
Ironically, we need these migrant workers to harvest our
crops, clean and landscape our homes and businesses,
care for our children and fill other jobs which our citizens
cannot or do not fill.
To make matter worse, splitting up of families often
happens in our government’s deportation process. Raids
on businesses with undocumented workers have left
children to fend for themselves while their parents are
deported. And long time periods are routinely imposed on
families wishing to reunite. As Christians, we object to the
very un-Christian manner in which our county, state and
federal governments are treating our sisters and brothers,
created and loved by the One God.
Our immigration laws must be changed to allow for legal
immigration of those wishing to live and work here as well as
for the uncomplicated return of workers to their homes after
their work is finished.
Pax Christi members, while respecting civil laws, are
compelled to adhere to the higher law of God. We support
humane treatment of all people and reformed immigration
laws which accommodate human needs on both sides of
our border, for the good of all.

Dear Casa Community, thanks to all
who donated books, bought books
and the 14 who sorted and laid out
the books on May 21st. We must have had
6,000 books for the sale. Saturday and
Sunday we sold off almost 1/2 and netted
right at $1,100 to be split between Fr. Gino
and Fr. Eddy at the Apache Missions. After
the sale, Jim Cronk took many boxes to the
V.A. and St. Vincent DePaul picked up the
balance. Once again thanks to all you
folks who have supported the book ministry
the past years. Now on to bigger and
better!!

The Treasure Box
The Beatitudes Church has
been participating in the
Treasure Box food program
since last November. It is a fantastic program
and has only been getting better. The
Beatitudes Church happens to be a delivery
site for the food boxes and they are 7 miles
from the Casa.
This program is for anyone who is feeling the
pinch of our economic hard times. It has
been embraced by the senior population, by
parents who have their children and
grandchildren returning home due to job loss
and middle class folks who are watching their
assets shrink.

To be a godparent/sponsor for baptism/confirmation you must have received all your sacraments of
initiation: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. You must be an active, participating, contributing

This summer, Pastoral Ministers to the Sick
and Homebound are ready, willing and
available to visit members of The Church of
Our Lady of the Angels who cannot attend
Sunday Liturgy and reside in Phoenix,
Scottsdale or Paradise Valley. Our Pastoral
Ministers also serve patients at Banner Good
Samaritan and Mayo Hospital. Please call
the Casa front desk at 480-948-7460 to
request a visit. Someone will return your call
and arrange for a team of two pastoral
ministers to visit. Weekly Eucharist, prayer,
fellowship, and sharing news from the Casa
builds-up our community and the Body of
