Ive accomplished goal number 1, by using reading skills and reading the article How to tame
a wild tongue by Anzaldua Gloria. I annotated the article and I was also able to employ
appropriate reading strategies to comprehend, analyze and synthesize the article.
Doing my first shitty first draft and being able to revise it. I was able to make changes to
my first draft and add more detail on it. At the end I was able to create a more critically and
organized paper. I think it was very important to go to class every day because we did a lot of
note taking on how to do our first essay.
I was able to use the sandwich quotation method to help structure and sharpen my
writing. By writing the advertisement essay. It was my first time writing a rhetorical analysis
essay and I think I did pretty good on it.
For the research I paper I was able to get the prevalence data on poverty. I was able to
gather information from the media and add some important information to my writing. I was able
to demonstrate competent skill in using resource material.

I do admit at the beginning of the semester I was very shy and I wouldnt talk much in
class, but as the semester went by I started to feel less shy. I think all of that change once the
instructor made us get into small groups and work together as a group. Working in groups at
first wasnt so great because everyone was still being shy but after a few weeks later everyone
started to feel comfortable. There was more chit chatting in the class. As in my class
participation I think I couldve done better. Im a shy person and most of the times when the
instructor would ask a question I would know the answer but I was too embarrassed of
answering the question wrong. I've always been afraid to ask questions, I dont want to be the
person that everyone looks at when I raise my hand up and ask for help. Towards the end of the
semester I will say I did participate a little more. When we had to have a class discussion about
a book by Sherman Alexie I did participate a little by raising my hand and answering questions
about the novel, but yet I wished I wouldve done that a little early at the semester so I wouldnt
have B in the class. If I would've participated more at the beginning of the semester Im sure I
wouldve finished the semester with an A- at least. I learned my lesson its very important to
participate in class. For the future I hope I can use this experience to help me improve in
participating because I can see how it can affect my grade at the end.
I believe at the end when I turn in this portfolio it will have everything I learned and
accomplished throughout the semester. It doesn't mention this but attendance was very
important because we learned different things every day that we had in class. In this portfolio I
will be including my very two best graded essays. I will go over them before submitting them
and make any changes that are need to be done. The first essay is always going to be a rough
draft and is going to have mistaken, but I plan on going over the essays and take into
consideration on what my peer commented to improve my essay.
