Resources and Sources for

Teaching and Learning

Elementary School
Music:
My elementary
school teacher
was a great
influence for
me becoming
a music
educator. She
taught me that
I should
always
practice and
never take my
talents for
granted.
Middle School Music:
My middle
school teacher
made me fall
in love with
learning choral
music. She is
the professor
that taught my
my love for
solfege. It is
now ingrained
in my head
and I will
never forget
what she
taught me.
High School Music:
My high
school teacher
taught me that
teachers are
not just adults,
they can also
be role
models. She
inspired me to
work as hard
as I can no
matter what in
order to be the
best musician
I can be. I
hope one day
to be as good
of an educator
as she is.

Patricia Shehan-Campbell
Patricia Campbell
was a very
inspirational
visiting teacher.
She taught me
that it is very easy
to incorporate
multi-cultural
music into any
curriculum. It
doesn't have to be
Native American
Culture, it can
focus on the
culture that is
relevant to your
area.
Darryl Kniffen
Darryl Kniffen, in
my opinion, was
the most intelligent
person we spoke
to all semester. He
built his program
from the ground
up. His use of
technology in the
classroom is
incredible. He has
students
composing new
works with garage
band, recording
videos, improving
with student run
bands, and many
more activities. He
created classes
that could inspire
students to go
above and beyond
their musical
capabilities. The
students were
able to use music
classes to express
their love for pop
music, hip hop
music, and improv.
I hope to be as
creative as he is
when I am a
teacher.

Cognitivism:
Cognitivism is
the study of
Psychology
that focuses
on mental
processes.
These
include
theories on
how students
think,
perceive,
remember
and other
mental
capabilities
Behaviorism:
Behaviorism
focuses on
observing
behaviors
and activities
of students in
social
situations.
This theory
examines
how students
react to a
stimulus or a
repeated
direction
Constructivism:
Constructivis
m is the
theory of how
students
acquire new
knowledge
and how it
affects them
Some of
these
theorists are
Brooks,
Bruner,
Piaget,
Vygotsky,
Dewey,
Papert, more.

Multi-Cultural Song:
The Multicultural
song I taught
was Yeysh Lan
Tayish, an Israeli
folk song. This
was my first
experience
teaching and it
was way harder
than I thought it
would be. The
lesson was
harder to explain
than I had
imagined, but I
got through it. It
was a very long
lesson, but I
luckily was able
to keep my
students
attentive and
engaged
throughout the
entire lesson.
Wiggins Lesson.
The Wiggins
lesson I taught
was
Experiencing
Dynamics. This
lesson used a lot
of online
resources, and
went a lot
smoother than
my previous
lesson. The
students were
very attentive
and went along
with my activity
very nicely
Both of these
lessons are
valuable
resources that I
can use when I
get into a
classroom.

Teaching for Musical

Understanding:
This book is by
Jackie Wiggins
and is filled with
lessons for
students of all
ages. This
resources will be
very helpful
when I get into
an elementary
school
classroom.
NAfME.org
This website is
for the National
Associated for
Music
Education. I am
a member of
NAfME so I get
to use many
different
resources and I
get access to
the Music
Educators
Journal. This
journal i smiled
with stories from
teachers and
other creative
ideas.
Guest Presenters in
PME
All of the
presenters that
visited our PME
classroom gave
us their emails
to contact them
anytime with
questions, or
opportunities to
observe their
classrooms.
These teachers
are role models
and can be very
helpful
resources as I
go in the music
education field.
