Course Description
This course introduce the students the historical aspects of the pharmacy profession and
its development. It also discussed the role of a pharmacist in hospitals,industries and
community as well as their responsibility as a member of the health team in giving services to
the public and primary health care. It also introduces the student to prescriptions reading
covered to the various pharmaceutical dosage forms (other than parenteral preparations) such
as internal and external liquid preparations,suspension,emulsions,cream,ointment,powder and
capsule preparations and suppository. Students are required to prepare and dispense the
medication through correct method of compounding,correct labeling and pack them properly.
Incompatibilities of ingredient during preparations and flavoring agents are also discussed.
Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:


1. Identify the history,role,responsibility various field of the pharmacy profession.
2.

Discuss the legislation,ethics and acts binding the profession.

3. Translate the prescriptions written in Latin abbreviation.


4. Solve pharmaceutical calculation.
5. Describe various pharmaceutical dosage forms.
6. Prepare pharmaceutical preparations.
