I am too happy to express myself but I want to congratulate the
Somali security institutions for securing the process. Mogadishu has
been peaceful right from the time I arrived, and in all this, AMISOM
(African Union Mission in Somalia) forces have been very supportive
to the Somali security forces and I salute them.

I am very happy with the reservation of the 30 percent quota for
women. The success that women have achieved is unlike before.
This electoral process has given women the opportunity to be
members of parliament and I hope the country will experience
positive change that will spur development since women are the
backbone of any community.

their energy towards securing this electoral process. I also salute
the role the international community has played to ensure that this

What is special is that it is happening in Mogadishu. Obviously the
security situation of the city was in doubt but I think there is no
more doubt about that. This is the third time that we are holding
elections here, first for the Banaadir community and now for the
Somaliland community. That says the city is capable of holding
elections. The city is fairly safe and so far so good. There have been
no problems,

I want to thank those who took part in this process; it was a long
process that started in May this year. This was a concerted effort to
ensure that a suitable representative for this seat is found. I ask
Allah to make it easy for us to be able to diligently serve the people.

I congratulate the administration of HirShabelle for handling these
elections well; I also congratulate the electoral teams of FIEIT and
SIEIT (State Indirect Electoral Implementation Team) for the
democratic process they oversaw. I also thank the delegates, those
who vote for me and those who didnt, I promise to serve all of you.

Thirteen elected to the House of the People in the final


stages of voting as HirShabelle concludes the process
Mogadishu, Jowhar, Cadaado, 10 December 2016 - HirShabelle
became the third state to conclude the electoral process on a day
that saw 13 candidates elected to the House of the People in Jowhar,
Cadaado and Mogadishu.
Somalia's youngest state filled the last two seats bringing its total
number of members of parliament (MPs) in both Upper House and
House of the People to 46.

Elections have so far been held for 226 seats in the House of the
People, leaving 46 seats to be voted on as federal states make effort
to complete the process.
Nine of the representatives, three of them women were elected in
the second phase of the electoral process for Somaliland and
northern regions held in Mogadishu, Saturday. Galmudug elected
two representatives in the elections held on Friday and Saturday.
Those elected at the weekend include Mohamed Abdi Hayir, Minister
of Information; Feysil Omar Guled; Elmi Mohamud Nuur; Amina
Omar Jamma, Mariam Muhamud Isse; Noriye Aden Isse; Saala
Ahmed Jamma; Said Hassan Gedi and Abdo Maah Farah, all from
Somaliland. Former Assistant minister of Tourism, Abdishakur Ali
Mire and Farah Abdi Hassan won seats in Galmudug while two other
former ministers, Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan Nuh and Abdiaziz
Salah Armaan were elected in HirShabelle. The Federal Indirect
Electoral Implementation Team (FIEIT) had barred Mr Nuh from
contesting.
In Mogadishu, MP-elect Jamma, who won the all-female contest,
bagging all the 51 votes cast, to clinch the seat for the Muse Abokar
sub clan, hailed the partnership between the African Union Mission
in Somalia (AMISOM) and the Somali security forces which made the
electoral process possible.
I want to congratulate the Somali security institutions for securing
the process. Mogadishu has been very peaceful right from the time I
arrived from Somaliland, and all this has been possible because
AMISOM troops have greatly supported Somali security forces. I
salute them, Ms Jamma stated.
Mr Hayir who was re-elected hailed the role played by the Somali
security forces and the international community, in facilitating the
process.
I am proud of the Somali security agencies which have directed all
their energy towards securing this electoral process. I also salute
the role the international community has played to ensure that this
process takes place so that we have peace, development and good
governance. AMISOM troops have played a big role to ensure that
the process is incident free, MP-elect Hayir noted.
MP-elect Isse praised the decision to uphold the 30 percent women
quota, saying it has given women a chance to participate in the
affairs of the country.

I am very happy for the reservation of the 30 percent quota for


women. The success that women have achieved is unlike before.
This electoral process has given women the opportunity to be
members of parliament and I hope that the country will now
experience positive change that will spur development since women
are the backbone of any community, Ms Isse observed.
The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Somali National Army
(SNA), Maj. Gen. Mohamed Aden Ahmed, who visited the polling
centre expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made in
securing the process to ensure it proceeds peacefully.
I came here accompanied by the Commander of the Airforce to
monitor the security situation and see how the electoral process is
going on, Gen. Mohamed said.
In Cadaado, MP-elect Farah, noted that his success was a result of
collective effort. I want to thank those who took part in this
process. It was a long process that started in May. This was a
concerted effort to ensure that a suitable representative for this seat
is found. I ask Allah to make it easy for me to be able to diligently
serve the people. I thank the delegates for taking part in a process
that was fair, the MP-elect noted.
In Jowhar MP-elect Abdiaziz congratulated the administration of
HirShabelle and the indirect electoral implementation teams at
federal and state level for overseeing a free and fair electoral
process.
I congratulate the administration of HirShabelle for handling
process well. I also congratulate the electoral teams of FIEIT and
SIEIT (State Indirect Electoral Implementation Team) for overseeing
a democratic process and I also thank the delegates, those who
voted for me and those who did not. I pledge to serve all residents
he added.
Keynan Mohamed, the Spokesman of the FIEIT described the
electoral process for Somaliland taking place in Mogadishu as
unique and a vote of confidence in the security institutions.
What is special is that it is happening in Mogadishu. Obviously the

Galmudug has to date elected 35 seats out of the allocated 36,


while Somaliland and northern regions have so far elected 15
candidates to the House of the People. The latter was allocated 46
seats in the House of the People and 11 in the Upper House.
