EDUCATION

1. God gave you moral agency and the opportunity to learn while on earth, and
He has a work for you to do. To accomplish this work, you have an individual
responsibility to seek learning Education will open the doors of
opportunity. As you follow the Lords admonition to seek learning, even by
study and also by faith, you gain not only knowledge from your study but
added light as you learn by faith.

2. After all, education continues as long as we live. If there is ever an end to

secular learning, surely there is no end to spiritual learning.

3. Leaders of this Church have repeatedly emphasized the importance

of education. It is a vital component of wisdom.

4. Because of our sacred regard for each human intellect, we consider the
obtaining of an education to be a religious responsibility. Yet opportunities
and abilities differ. I believe that in the pursuit of education, individual desire
is more influential than institution, and personal faith more forceful than
faculty.

5. We encourage our youth in every country to get an education. Even if at

times it seems hopeless. With determination and faith in the Lord, you will be
blessed with success. It is a dream well worth pursuing.

6. Providing an education for your children is part of that nurturing and is your
sacred responsibility. Like the stripling warriors, who had been taught by
their mothers, you will be the most important teacher your children will ever
have, so choose your learning carefully. Bless your children and your future
home by learning as much as you can now.

7. Live so that you can be guided and taught by the Spirit in all your activities,
including all your efforts to learn and gain an education: honor your parents;
be true to the teachings of the Church; be clean and faithful in all things; and
be loyal to the leaders of the Church.

8. My personal experience converts me to the wisdom of the educational

philosophy that joins spiritual with secular instruction. At Brigham Young
University and in the other institutions of the Church Educational System, we
are concerned with teaching the fundaments of spiritual and secular
knowledge and with bringing those teachings into harmony in the lives of
men and women in order to prepare them for a balanced and full life of
service to God and fellowman.

10.Brethren, you have a duty to learn as much as you can. Please encourage
your families, your quorum members, everyone to learn and become better
educated. If formal education is not available, do not allow that to prevent
you from acquiring all the knowledge you can. Under such circumstances, the
best books, in a sense, can become your universitya classroom that is
always open and admits all who apply.
