TITLE:
Paralleling of interlocks of relays and switches in the control circuit of DJ/VCB to improve
reliability.

2.

OBJECT:
Transient troubles of following types are very common in Electric Locomotive,
i)

DJ/VCB tripping without any apparent cause.

ii)

Impossible to close DJ.

On investigations following have been mainly found responsible for above problems.
i)

Bad contact in the interlocks of relays/switches used in DJ/VCB circuit.

ii)

Improper/less contact pressure in the interlocks of relays/switches.

iii)

Loose connections.

To overcome such cases interlocks of relays/switches in the control circuit DJ/VCB have
been made parallel with the help of existing spare interlocks.

WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT:

i)

Parallel both the N/C interlocks of QOA,QLM,QOP1,QOP2, QRSI1 AND QRS12

relays with suitable shorting link at the base terminals of above relays. Before
paralleling it must be ensured that relays are modified relays having two N/C
interlocks Old relays having 1 N/O and 1 N/C interlocks are not to be modified.

ii)

Parallel the N/O interlock of Q45 relay on C118 contractor control circuit branch with
1.55 mm sq. & 750 V grade cable at relay base terminals.

iii)

parallel the N/C interlocks of Q44, Q46 relays and C118 contractor on Q118 relay
control circuit branch with 1.55 mm sq. 750 V grade cable at relays base and C118
auxiliary switch.

iv)

parallel N/O time delay interlock of Q118 relay and N/O interlock of Q45 relay on
Q44 relay control circuit branch with 1.55 mm sq. 750 V grade cable at relays bases.

v)

Parallel N/O auxiliary interlock of C118 contractor on EFDJ control circuit branch
with 1.55 mm sq. 750 V grade cable.

vi)

Parallel the interlock of BLDJ switches in Q45 relay control circuit branch.

vii)

Modified BP1DJ switch having 2 N/C interlocks in parallel to be used in place of

existing BP1DJ switch.

MATERIAL REQUIRED:
i)

Copper (plated) shorting link suitable to size for DI/DU type relays.

ii)

1.55 mm sq.750 V grade cable of required length.

iii)

Insulated cable lugs suitable for 1.5 mm sq. cable in required quantity.

iv)

Suitable contact block with 2N/C contact for BP1DJ switch.

APPLICATION TO THE CLASS OF LOCOMOTIVE:

All class AC Electric Locomotives.

MATERIAL RENDERED SURPLUS:

One contact of BP1DJ switch having 1N/O and 1N/C interlocks.

REFERENCE:
As per suggestions given by Railways in the past.

SKEL-4487 and 4488.

All Electric Loco Sheds Workshops, CLW and BHEL.
