Human Capital Management

Marketing Management
Accounting & Finance
Logistics & Supply Chain
Management
Business Analytics

Human Capital Management (HCM)

The Degree Programme specializing in Human Capital Management (HCM) covers the theoretical foundation of HCM
whilst providing a sound appreciation of other related business disciplines. The programme will further provide students
with the knowledge, skills and social awareness necessary to manage people, whether nationally, or internationally.
As the name implies, people need to be viewed not just as a resource, but rather, as a capital asset available to an
organization. From this point of view, managing people is concerned with much more than just personnel, or human
resources management. It is therefore more concerned with development, retention and motivation, building teams, and
getting them to work towards a common objective. There is a growing awareness of the importance of the function by
businesses both large and small as is evidenced by the increasingly competitive levels of pay offered to HCM professionals.
Moreover, availability of HCM positions continues to grow in tandem with international expansion of business. Our
graduates can therefore look forward to excellent career prospects.

Marketing Management (MM)

The highly intensified market condition exists today increase the significance of marketing effort for business success.
Moving beyond the concept of selling product and services, marketing management expand their boundaries all other
aspects of an organization emphasizing the importance of converting entire system into a customer focused entity.
The programme will enable the student to gain an entirely new perspective; view of the organization as well as the
customer. Starting with the universally applicable fundamentals, the special programme will provide the student an in-depth
knowledge of the art and science of marketing as is practiced in todays competitive business environment.

Accounting & Finance (AF)

Knowledge of Accounting and Finance are essential for the management of a Business. A sound grasp of fundamentals
is required to keep pace with the rapid changes and increasing complexity of modern business; especially true for the
Accounting and Finance disciplines.
Building on the strong foundation laid in the first three years of study, the Special Degree programme allows the student
to acquire an in-depth knowledge required by an expert in Finance and Accounting. Moreover, electives that are available in
the final year allow a student an avenue for further specialization in a selected field.

Logistics and Supply Chain Management

related to a wide variety of logistics and supply chain activities, including demand planning, purchasing, inventory control,
material handling, product and service support, information technology, transportation, distribution, warehousing and
strategic supply chain management. In addition, the programme focuses on the analysis, design, implementation, planning,
control, and improvement of manufacturing and service processes.
The study of Logistics and Supply Chain Management prepares students for professional careers with manufacturers,
distributors, transportation carriers, logistics service providers, and consulting firms. The curriculum provides the required
theoretical/conceptual base and analytical methods for making sound operational and strategic business decisions.

Business Analytics
Business organizations of the 21st century maintain large databases with information about their customers, supply chain
and competitors. They strive to establish a competitive advantage by using such information to make better business
decisions. Data-driven companies treat their data as a strategic asset.
Business analytics is the discipline of applying quantitative analytical models to analyse data, particularly found in large
volumes,to help make better business decisions.Successful business analytics depends on data quality, skilled analysts who
understand the technologies as well as the business and an organizational commitment to data-driven decision making.
In the recent past, career opportunities for business analytics graduates have exploded as major organizations have
adopted data driven and technology focused approaches.

SLIIT RESEARCH FACILITIES

As a leading tertiary educational institute in Sri Lanka,
research is an integral part of SLIIT. We strive for a vibrant
research culture and numerous initiatives are in place
to promote research among the academic and student
communities. Integrating research methodology to
undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, establishing a
research center to carry out research work, SLIIT Research
Grant Scheme, National Conference on Technology and
Management are all meant to promote research.
Research programmes at SLIIT have gained popularity
with the introduction of the research grant scheme. All
academics are clustered into research teams and each team
is headed by a senior academic. The senior academics as
the principal investigators are eligible for the SLIIT annual
research grants.

(e.g. on-line journals) and participation in conferences. SLIIT

research seminar sessions provide all academics a platform
to present their research work.

Research methodology is a compulsory module for all

postgraduate programs at SLIIT. This aims to inculcate
skills to acquire new knowledge which is of paramount
importance in the fields of Information Technology,
Engineering and Business Management where the body
of knowledge grows exponentially. All students complete
a comprehensive research project under the guidance of
SLIIT staff members.

During these first 6 years it was confined to research in

the field of Information Technology and participants were
mainly from SLIIT. During the last four years NCTM has
been improved by the quality of the research work and by
wider participation of both academia and industry.
SLIIT Research Centre at Malabe Campus provides a good
study environment, computer facilities to browse online
research and is freely available for research discussions.

The SLIIT Research Centre, overseen by a committee of

senior academics/researchers, provides facilities to carry
out staff and student research. SLIIT Research Centre
organizes the National Conference on Technology and
Management (NCTM), a forum to discuss contemporary
issues in the fields of Technology and Management.
The seminar is organized by a SLIIT research seminar
committee which is spearheaded by Head / SLIIT Research
Centre. This committee organizes workshops to guide SLIIT
post graduate students to improve their skill in research.

These grants can be freely utilized for research related

purposes such as accessing useful research resources

Soft Skills+
Faculty of Business, annually
organizes Soft Skills + inter-school
quiz competition and soft skills
workshop to spark the interest on
soft skills whilst improving the general
knowledge among school children.
Secondary schools tend to
concentrate on the imparting of
knowledge, on analysis, and on
synthesis. Though these are valuable,
soft skills such as team work, problem
solving, creativity and thinking out
of the box are quite important for
everyone to succeed. An emphasis on
competitive examinations leaves a little
time for the development of these
important skill sets. This is the main
reason for initiating this programme.
The event is open to students from
grade 11 to grade 13 representing
state, private and international schools.
All winners and participants are to
receive certificates and prizes.
In Soft Skills+ 2015, after hours of
battling for the title, Ananda College,
Colombo, secured first place in the
quiz competition with Bandaranayake
College, Gampaha and Musaeus
College, Colombo coming in second

Commenting on the event, Dean
Faculty of Business states, We
organize this programme every

their soft skills by enhancing their
knowledge on a wide range of
disciplines, such as problem solving,
team work, out of the box thinking,
general knowledge and creativity
